Summary: Excellent book. Marvelous Plot. Let's get a sequel.
Review: This book was so great that I finished it in just 4 hours. I couldn't put it down. Cast aside Harry Potter and pick up the new generation. Young Artemis is a great main character for the book and Butler makes a great bodyguard. You are probably wondering what the heck is he talking about. If you were to read the book, you too would be cast into the wonders of Fowl Manor and into the power hungry plot of the Fowl's, a criminal family, head of criminals ranging from pickpockets to armed robbers, to steal the colossal treasure of the fairies. Great Book.

Summary: But the cover is nice...
Review: The hardcover version of the book has wonderful embossing and holographic sparkles. I read the entire book, but did it only to finish. I enjoy children's and young adult books, but this book won't delight any young readers. I can only describe the style of this book as unhumorous film noire. It's dark, it's violent, and has no redemming qualities, other than the nice cover.

Summary: A Thouroughly Enjoyable Modern Fantasy
Review: Artemis Fowl is the story of a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who plots to regain his lost family fortune by kidnapping a fairy to steal their pot of gold. It has page-turning suspense, delicious wit, and a nice sprinkling of humor in the mix. Although I don't reccomend it for younger kids, I think the teen to young adult age group would thouroughly enjoy this book. It's not your average fairy tale! Also, don't be fooled into thinking this book is just for kids -- it has a very...different...approach on the fairies!

Summary: STOP THE HARRY POTTER COMPARISONS!
Review: I am tired of people comparing this book to the Harry Potter series. Artremis Fowl is so different in plot than J.K. Rowling's series that it is ridiculous to treat them both the same way. I might as well begin to tell you what I didn't like about this book. First of all, the human charaters were not very developed and I am not very fond of Artemis. He is a boy with very twisted priorities which I find annoying. Second, Eoin Colfer's writing could do with a tad bit of work. There are some things he could have constructed and expanded better on.
However, his writing has some good points of its own. The plot of this story is highly original and imaginative. I love the modern fairies, and I like how magic was combined with technology. This formula made this book fresh, interesting reading material. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a very cool, unique read and I for one found it quite enjoyable.
Oh, this is a bit off-topic, but I would like to say that J.K. Rowling is not as great of a writer as she is a creator of story plots. I love her books to death, but it is not her writing that makes the Harry Potter books so absolutely amazing. Something different about it captured many people, and I'm not sure what. Just thought I should express my opinion.

Summary: Not Up To Harry Potter's High Standards
Review: This book is not as magical or detailed as the Harry Potter books. In my opinion, the genius of Harry Potter is that since Harry was unaware he was a wizard he views the magical world from our point of view.

Artemis Fowl on the other hand has been raised to be mischevious and creates havoc & war against innocent fairies from day one. If anything, Artemis Fowl is more Draco Malfoy than Harry Potter.

All of that being said, it is a very easy book to read as the last half of it is detailing an 8 hour battle. I gave it 3 stars because there are so many better comparable stories out there. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, So You Want to Be A Wizard & The Young Wizard Series by Diane Duane & The Hero From Otherwhere by Jay Williams just to name a few.

Summary: Artemis Fowl, a great but somewhat failed book
Review: Artemis Fowl has a very clever plot to it but did not go into as much detail as I had hoped. I know that I am one of the only people that thinks this but MOST OF THE BOOK is written in a very poor, matter-of-fact way. It states things and then BOOM, on to the next idea. Not very much description. If the book had more background information then maybe it would have been better. A four-star perhaps.

Summary: The Ruby In The Smoke
Review: Breathtaking. Pullman has used an incredible power to bind you to this book. It is impossible to put his trilogy down!

Summary: Artemis Fowl---a surprisingly good read
Review: I picked up Artemis Fowl at the library on a whim;I had seen it in the bookstore, and it had a really cool cover. As I started to read it, I was amazed. It was incredibly good. No, it was Exceptional! I was drawn into it right away. I couldn't put it down!

Summary: A Great Book
Review: I for one enjoyed seeing the antagonist get down off his white horse and just make some money. The plot is insidiously twisted and all of the characters are well developed(You would know this if you read past chaptewr two). On top of it all the antagonist Artemis Fowl is a great round character that has a twisted set of morals. I do hope the general public is intelligent enough to deal with it.
