Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Treasure!!!!! Review: Eoin Colfer has done a fantastic job on this magical book! A twelve years old boy named Artemis Fowl the Second is plotting to steal the timeless treasure of the fairies! He is the genius, a criminal mastermind, and a millionaire. So believing that there are fairies he began the quest to find "The People." With his friend, servant, bodyguard, and cook named Butler, they both begin to find the treasure of the fairies. After copying the "Book" from a drunk fairy, they try to find a leprechaun to show the gold. Later during the search, an elf named Holly Short is introduced. She is an elf captain from LEPrecon Special Forces. Because Captain Short is low on magic, she had to find a spot to do the Ritual where she can replenish her powers. Unfortunately for Holly, Artemis and Butler are hiding in the one of the spots that Holly has come to do the Ritual. They talk for a few minutes and Holly finds out that the "Mud People"(humans) know about their existance and then decides to use the mesmer (the lowest form of magic and requires only a little magic). But it is ineffective and she faints. The LEPrecon Special Forces find out she is kidnapped by a Mud People. Artemis decides to hold her for ransom and then he makes a plan of how to get the gold and outsmart the fairies. The special forces refuse to give any gold and use the secretive time- stoppage which stops time for 8 hours. Artemis meets Commander Root and tells him that he can escape the time-field. So Root sends a dwarf named Mulch to steal something from the house and rescue Holly. But since Mulch is a criminal instead he steals a copy of the Book and escapes out into the world. Believing that Mulch is dead, they send in a troll they captured earlier. Butler has to fight it but is injured critically. So with her powers back Holly tries to heal him because she was also injured by the troll. Butler defeats the troll and sends him back. Root then sends in the gold and Artemis lets Holly go. But before the time-stoppage was about to end Artemis requested for a wish in return for some gold to Holly. He had wished that his mother would be healthy again like before. She granted it and came back to LEPrecon forces with half the gold. The time field ends right after Butler, Juliet (Butler's sister), and Artemis celebrate by drinking some champagne with some sleeping pills in it to make them fall asleep. Then the LEPrecon Forces think they are dead so they go in and take the gold but suddenly one of the officers start vomiting which meant that Artemis Fowl was alive. In the end Artemis won the gold and his mother was normal. Holly became LEP's foremost expert in Artemis Fowl cases. I liked the book because it was interesting of how clever 12- year old boy had found out a way of how to escape the time field when it had never been discovered before by the People. And it also included things about magical creatures like elves, fairies, dwarves and so on. My favorite part in the book was when they found out that Artemis Fowl was alive. They found out he was alive when an officer started vomiting and had nausia and so the others began as well except Holly. She asked Foaly, LEP's computer expert centaur what was going on and he replied that it was a like a extreme allergic reaction which meant Artemis Fowl was alive! Because Artemis said that no one from LEP could enter the house while he was alive.
Rating: Summary: The Anti-Potter? Review: First let me say that I enjoyed the book. I didn't, however, love it. The whole time I was reading I couldn't help but think that Artemis, the 12-year old "criminal genius" was a deliberate attempt to become the Anti-Potter. And, I guess my main disappointment came from the fact that I found not a bit of likeability in Artemis. If you want people to love anti-heroes, you've got to make them somewhat sympathetic. That being said, however, it was an enjoyable read. There was great humor, and I liked the mix of technology & myth.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review Review: Atemis Fowl is a 12 years old boy, with the most intelligent criminal mastermind. He with his 2 bodyguards Butler and Juliet, he plan to kidnapped a fairy with the pot of gold. But he didn't realize that the fairy has much more hi-tech weapons than he could imagine. But he didn't believe about the "gold at the end of the rainbow". This book is contain many hi-tech weapons, for example; bio bomb, night vision, and many others more. It also is a fun fantasy book, with lots of imagination and fun to read. I would recommend this book to most people.

Rating: Summary: A great Holiday Read. Review: A nine hour flight can seem very boring. But not however if you have Artemis Fowl. This was one of the most interesting and exciting books I have read since Harry Potter! Unlike Harry Potter this story includes some very well included, touches of humour which makes this story one not to miss. If you've read Harry Potter and were impressed, you'll be amazed by this!

Although they lived in a old mansion, they had no money.Holly Short, a LEP or fairy officer, tries to stop Artemis and his plans.... but can she?
Rating: Summary: Not my taste. Review: There are reasons why books by authors like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Madeleine L'Engle have remained in print for decades as classics in fantastic fiction. There are reasons why authors like J.K. Rowling and Phillip Pullman will join their ranks: because they have charm and ingenuity.Artemis Fowl has neither of these things. This is not to say that it can't be entertaining... for a twelve year old boy. I just don't see it as anything more than an action movie script crammed into 250 pages with very nice packaging. If that's what you're looking for, go for it. But personally, I found the humor unappealing and not very witty. (Think gross-out humor). There are too many characters whose viewpoints don't matter and whose actions don't advance the meager storyline. Sometimes it seemed as though the author just made things happen--not because they were logical or believable in any way--but because it was convenient (Holly saving Butler, for example). The dialogue is messy and filled with cliches. As for Artemis Fowl, the title character, he is an irritating brat masquerading as a criminal mastermind with delusions of grandeur. Yes, there is violence--in fact, the violence and weaponry is the only part of novel which apparently warrants a description of more than just a cursory sentence--but I wouldn't call it offensive unless you are easily offended. Personally, I found this very hard to finish. It's an annoying, obviously rushed book that should never have been anything more than a rough draft for the upcoming movie. The only reason I gave it two stars was because I could maybe see it being entertaining for a twelve-year old boy who dreams of taking over the world, being a criminal mastermind, outsmarting everything and everyone on the planet. It just wasn't good enough for me. Pass it by, and try a newer, better author like Meghan Whalen Turner or Lemony Snicket.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Seeing as how I have an affinity for unlikable characters, this book did it for me. Artemis is delightfully evil, but in a salvagable way. I feel he has a heart under all that malice, no matter how much the author would like to veer us off that track of thinking. The book is very action-packed; a definite page-turner. The only negative comment I'd have to make is on its length. I'm never really satisfied with shorter books. If it were longer, I probably would have enjoyed it more. As for the comparisons to Harry Potter, I feel they are hardly justified. Two completely different worlds, two completely different styles of writing. Colfer has a very unique style, and his writing is humorous. Quite unlike Harry Potter, which can be a good thing...for awhile.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This was a excellent book. Every one who gave this book a one star, saying that peaple who liked harry potter and the lord of the rings would hate this book is wrong. I love both of those series and this book. I liked this book becase the bad guy won. It gets so tiresome in other books and movies because you always know in the end everthing is going to turn out okay. This book is differint. I'm a 11 year old and loved the book the whole way through.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This book was really entertaining and funny. The storyline was seamless and very original. The characters are very deep (particularly Artemis). This should become a classic!
