Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: This was an excellent book! It keeps you enjoyed and makes you want to read more. The best part is the decoded message on the bottom!!!! After you figure it out, you want to go back and read the story again ( if you translate it, you'll know what I mean!!)
Rating: Summary: Something magically different Review: It would be a crime to compare Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl has a different feel to it. The People are not protected by magic but guns; they have to rejuvinate their powers; and they have far more superior technology to speak of.Pick Artemis Fowl if you want a fun light read.
Rating: Summary: The Anti-Potter! Review: If your kids liked Harry Potter but long for something with more bite, try Artemis Fowl. He's a wonderful anti-hero in a world of good boys and girls. The vocabulary demands a great deal of hesitant readers, who would be better off with the JK Rowling Potter series or perhaps McCaffery's Dragonsong novels. But for ambitious young folk (or bored old folk looking for a quick laugh) Artemis is a refreshing and funny change from the ordinary.
Rating: Summary: Good Premise, Horrible Plot Review: For all you Harry Potter lovers out there...I'm not sure if you'll like this. The whole reason that I bought it was because I read in that newspaper how excellent it was. In the review then, it also gave a summary of the plot which sounded very intriguing. I'll quote: "Artimes Fowl is a criminal mastermind who is a millionaire. He hopes to rob the fairies of their gold." Are these words true, you may ask. Yes, I suppose they're not LYING, but I must say, VERY misleading. That is the premise of the story, but the plot was all wrong, in my opinion. I'll give you a few reasons why... The story starts out great. It begins where Artimes is getting a magical potion from a kind of fairy, a sprite. Enough to keep me entertained. Then came the part from the fairies point of view. I really didn't like how the author portrayed the fairies as being on the "bad" side while they were the ones being robbed of gold. That wasn't what bothered me, though. You see, what was wrong about the whole "fairy story" was how the fairies, instead of being the mysterious, esscense of nature kind loved by children in classic novels, these lived in a major technology world. New, expert gadgets, atomic bombs, nucleur war...Strange to me for something like a fairy... The main reason for not enjoying this? Action sequences. I realized while reading this that every two minutes in the story, something was mentioned about a bomb blowing up a ship, the fairies getting gadgets out for war, etc. It was tiresome to read after a while. I read later that the reason of this was because originally ARTIMES FOWL was a screenplay, turned into a book. That was enough of a reason on top of it all to not read the sequel. Harry Potter fans, ARTIMES FOWL offers no magic, imagination, or anything about it to attract it besides it's false publicity. Not worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: Couldn't get beyond the first couple of chapters. I kept rereading the same thing because it kept losing me. I'm really not that bad a reader so I figure it was the lack of purpose, unpleasant characters, phony dialogue and unsuccessful attempts at humor that made me lose interest.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Brings Joy to the Long Days of a Harry Potter fan... Review: Artemis, quick, smart, and eager to rule the world, is trying his biggest stunt yet; to steal secrets from the elusive and technologically advanced Fairies in order to restore his family's lost fortune. But Artemis does not fully understand the modern day fairies: the ones with guns and biological time weapons, not to mention all kinds of handy gadgets. Not sound like your cup of tea? Throw in Captain Holly Short of the LEP program--the first female fairy to reach her rank. Nothing like a strong female heroine to make a book worth reading...and nothing like one to stop the plans of everyone's favorite 12 year old criminal genius. This book is not for people who do not have a sharp mind that can keep pace with the very military fairies and their general on-goings, and readers will definitely not know which side to root for. Overall, a book you won't want to miss for the world.
Rating: Summary: What fun! Review: I picked this book up in Ireland with my niece in mind. Started reading it, and I was hooked. The author loves his nasty characters, which makes the reader love them as well. A terrific blend of the modern and the ancient, written with a twinkle in the eye--keeps you turning the pages and laughing.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever!!!!! Review: This bookis amazing!Anyone(I think)under 15 will love it.As good(or better)than Harry Potter,I strongly recomend this book.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: The book starts off when a clever, twelve-year-old boy named Artemis Fowl meets Nguyen Xuan to ask for the whereabouts of a sprite, who possesses the Book. After obtaining the Book, Artemis deciphers its foreign language, quickly understanding its contents. He later captures an elf of the LEPrecon Special Forces and keeps her as a hostage. He expects to be paid a ransom of one ton of twenty-four-carat gold. Artemis and his butlers battle the fairy society with brains and strategies. In the end, however, in exchange for the elf, Artemis receives the ransom, but bargains half of it for a wish from the elf. In addition, using his brains, Artemis avoids being blown up by a bomb, and the fairy squad, thinking Artemis is long gone searches his house for the rest of the gold. Circumstances forced them to retreat without it. Artemis ends up with the remaining gold, and his mother, who was ill in the beginning, is relieved of her sickness due to the one wish. I truly recommend this book to anyone because of its marvelous plot. It contains magic, fairies, and thrilling action and suspense. It includes a boy with clever brains who always happens to be two steps further than everyone else. The book also happens to be fascinating and exciting at the same time. My favorite part of the story happens to be when Artemis' butler, Butler, engages in a fight with a massive troll. Although he encounters fatal wounds, broken bones, and unconsciousness, Holly Short, the elf and hostage, uses her magic to revive and heal him. Butler then regains his strength and destroys the annoying troll. Honestly, the whole story seems to be my favorite part.
