Summary: This is the best book!
Review: THis is the best book! Way better than Harry Potter!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: let it stand on its own
Review: It is unfair to compare this book to Harry Potter. I enjoyed both Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is a different type of story, as so many other reviewers have pointed out. Artemis is not a perfectly moral character, but he is fun for kids to read about because he is not a perfect hero.

The book begins by explaining that Artemis is a character not to be messed with, but the story proves that he has feelings and is devoted to his family.

I thought this was a wonderful book, if you like Harry Potter but are willing to try something a little different this is a great book. I read it in one sitting, the story is lots of fun!

Summary: Giving Harry potter a run for his money
Review: I absolutely loved Artemis Fowl. Having read this book as a continuation of my love for fantasy and having throughly enjoyed the Potter series I found Colfer's world to be one which was entertaining, well thought out, and a great deal of fun. Don't read this book if you want another Harry Potter book, read it on it's own merits! The characters are unique, and Fowl is not supposed to be another Potter. He is supposed to be an EVIL 12 year old. In the end the book focused more on Root's quest to regain Holly, one of the LEPrecon's recruits and dealt more with an introduction to Colfer's fantasy world than it did on the trials of a media-frenzied genius wizard at boarding school. Fowl isn't meant to be the role model, but another character for children to enjoy reading. The book was easy to follow and even contained a puzzle for added entertainment. Also recommended: The price of Immortality............you should read this book. you will not be Disappointed !!...

Summary: Good story, shame about the main character
Review: Crime isn't supposed to pay, but it seems to for Artemis Fowl, the 12 year old criminal genius at the centre of this modern day fairy tale. The boy genius has a simple aim- to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And he finds it. Sort of.

Fairy tales and fantasy stories are more popular now than ever, with the likes of Harry Potter and The Lord Of The Rings storming the best-seller lists and box offices of the world simultaneously. Everyone seems to want a piece of the action. A cynic would say this novel attempts to jump on that bandwagon. After all, its full of mystical creatures like leprechauns and trolls, and the central character is a schoolboy. Artemis is no Harry Potter though. He's more like a young Slippery Jim Di Griz, science fiction writer Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat, but with less technology. Unlike the Stainless Steel Rat though, Artemis Fowl is really not a likable character. His entire scheme is driven by greed, and his servant, Butler, does much of the hard work. At times, it's hard to resist hoping Fowl's adversaries will beat him. Instead of coming across as a loveable scamp, he's more like a know all spoiled brat.

The real stars of this story though, are the People. The People live underground, where the Mud People (that's us) can not find them. The People are magical and more technologically advanced than surface dwellers, and they value their peace and quiet. Artemis disturbs them, forcing Lower Elements Police recon (LEPrecon), a crack special operations group of elves, into action. LEPrecon seem to run a little like the stereotypical movie police force- a red faced commander who shouts a lot, a heroic renegade much of the action focuses on, and a supporting cast of well intentioned but bumbling supporting characters. Oh, and there is a wise cracking technological genius who happens to be a centaur. Other mythical creatures, like trolls, goblins and dwarves feature in the story, adding much comic flavour.

The story as a whole is a mix of science fiction, fantasy, and a little social commentary. As an added bonus, there's a secret code, supposedly the language of the People, running across the bottom of every page in the book. Apart from the character flaws of young Artemis, this book is an excellent read, fast paced and entertaining with an original spin on mythology.

Summary: Colfer hits a foul ball
Review: This book is written at too high of a level for kids, yet isn't a very interesting story for adults. Ninety nine percent of kids under the age of 13 will have difficulty keeping up with the dialog, which often rambles on between characters without attributing the source. In addition, the vocabulary, although fine for adults, is well beyond the intended audience. A little literary stretch may be good, but this goes too far. I found the story dry, and the ending anticlimatic. I suppose Captain Short is the protagonist we are supposed to cheer, but most other characters didn't appeal to me. J. K. Rowling can sleep well.

Summary: A Sinister Harry Potter?
Review: When describing this book to friends I often find myself using the words, "Like Harry Potter, but different."

Really the only similarities between the two are the boy's ages and the wonderful writers behind them. Eoin Colfer, like JK Rowling, has discovered the key to making a book truly for all ages. It catches the attention and respect of children and adults alike.

If you are looking for a book to keep you turning pages, Artemis Fowl is a must read.

Summary: A Hilarious Page Turner
Review: Artemis Fowl is a book that I have no doubt will be passed down from generation to generation.
Artemis Fowl is a twelve year old criminal mastermind who plans to regain the family fortune with the help of his body gaurd Butler and Butler's little sister Juliet. How do they plan to do this? By taking a fairy hostage and waiting for the ransom gold to arrive.
When Holly Short, the first female LEPrecon officer, is captured by Artemis Fowl while doing the magic restoring ritual, her boss, Commander Root, is forced to throw trolls, time stops, and a bio bomb into the fray to get his officer out of the Fowl Manor.
This is the kind of book where you loose all rememberance of where you are, you get lost completely in the pages of this book. This hilarious book had many laughable sections in it and that makes it even better: mixing action with comedy. I reccomend this book to anybody who loves fantasy with an attitude.
I you enjoy this book I reccomend its sequel, Artemis Fowl the Artic Incedint.

Summary: Better than Harry Potter?
Review: Artemus Fowl is a very cool book, I read it in 7th grade before it became popular and I loved it. Of all the books I've read I never came across one where the evil person is accually the star! It made the book more interesting.
The book had a lot of plot twists and un expecteded plots. Artemus is really smart for his age, it's amazing how he keeps a step in front of the LEP officers all throught the book.
I really recomend this book to everyone. It's a reall keeper!

Summary: Artemis Fowl
Review: There is no bad part of this book. It is full of unexpected twist and turns. It is a page turning, suspenseful book that deserves 100 stars. All the different creatures are a great touch too. Elfs, humans, dwarves, trolls. Everything you can think of is in this book. Definitly the book of the century.

Summary: Good start to the series.
Review: First, before I get to my review of the book, I read that this is to be compared to Harry Potter. Wrong! The Harry Potter is the best series that child can read.

Now on with the review. What a good book. My cousin bought it for me for my b-day to use in the classroom. There is some profanity so I can't use it in the classroom...but I did enjoy the book.

Meet Artemis Fowl. He's a criminal mastermind. Highly intelligent, very cunning....and just 12 years old! He knows that there is fariy gold to be found, but he has to figure out how to get it. He kidnaps a fairy and holds her hostage. But this isn't a usual fairy. Why not? Read and find out.

Colfer has created a world where this world and the fairy world meet. There's a lot of magic and fairy power to hold the readers attention and has characters that we, as the reader, care about and want to get to know. Fowl is a genius and it's interesting how Colfer has created him. I highly suggest this book (parents: there is some profanity and some light violence) and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
