Rating: Summary: Enjoy it! Review: For young readers this is an excellent story. Here you meet Artemis Fowl a boy genious, who is part of an infamous crime family. The story is straightforward, the plot doesn't have very many unexepted turns, but makes up for it with loads of fun. Sometimes, even with hillarious laugh out loud moments. While this isn't a deep story, I think young readers will enjoy the story. Have fun, definitely set aside some time. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl... Book 1 Review: This book was very well written. I loved how it was written. It was brilliant. I loved how it was totally made up and the language was great. It is given the appearance that it is a real place, there is so much detail. The story at the bottom written in Gnommish was great also. It was all great. I loved how Artemis was portrayed as the brilliant mastermind! He was very well written. When you read this, you want the good guy to win and the bad guy to be gotten rid of... and i'll leave the ending for you to read. It was great. I hope the second one is just as good if not better.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Review: Artemis is as believable as a criminal mastermind boy-genius type can be. I get the sense that this character will develop more in future installations. The interactions between him and the fairies are written very well. In a way, he is protagonist and antagonist at the same time, which makes for very good reading as you are rooting for all the characters to come out ahead. There is a bit of violence, but definitely no more than most toys and books aimed at pre-teens. The plot is fast moving, interesting and always funny. Although Artemis Fowl is a strange protagonist he is a good one. You also have your doubts about him during some of his emotional battles. It was a fun read and I would pass on the recommendation to most anybody who likes the fantasy/magic fiction genre. I also recommend you READ "His Dark Materials series" and, a great new comer, The Price of Immortality by C.M. Whitlock
Rating: Summary: One 12-year-old who shouldn't be in loafers Review: Artemis Fowl is 12, doesn't shave, has a butler, and yet is a criminal mastermind. This book, about a child genius, is highly thrilling for those of any age. I am 17, yet I still enjoyed this book with it's quirky humor and sometimes odd characters, such as a dwarf who is somewhat explosive, in every meaning of the word. The book opens with Artemis searching for something. the reader doesn't know what it is or anything; which makes for a slightly confusing intro, but it improves later on when the details are revealed. Colfer, the writer, does not bring the story into full view until the very end; which I like. It doesn't lack in action or gadgetry, and the story is very entertaining to compliment the high-tech equipment. I highly recommend this book, not only for its use of cunning plot and gadgets, but for its clever innovation. It introduces us to a new world, like no other book. It also give the foundation for the next wonderful book. The best way to enjoy a on-the-edge-of-your-seat book like this, is to stop reading reviews and pick up your own copy.
Rating: Summary: Reluctant readers, beware Review: A must have for reluctant readers and voracious readers alike. Middle school or advanced 4th- 5th grade readers will love the fast moving action, adventure, fantasy, and humor. I've recommended it and passed it around frequently with nothing but rave reviews. P.S. not for children only!!!! Every adult I've given it too has loved it as well.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: This is definately just as good as Harry Potter! (And very good competition, too!) Being a Harry Potter Fan myself it was hard to say that but I dont want to give too much away! This a definately worth reading!!!
Rating: Summary: Not Bad, but Not Particularly Good Review: Artemis is indeed an interesting character. I'll admit he is certainly not the norm as far as protagonists go. However, I had a hard time getting into the novel. By far the best part was the code that ran along the bottom of the page. I had lots of fun working that puzzle out.
Rating: Summary: NOT WHAT MOST EXPECTED Review: Unlike many of the ARTEMIS FOWL readers, I was quite unaware of the comparisons between Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. I picked the book up off the shelf intrigued by the title, and was surprised at the words "Stay back, Human. You don't know what you're dealing with." glaring at me from the back cover (Referring to the Hardback edition.) Upon reading the prologue, I came upon the realisation that Artemis Fowl was to be one of the most interesting characters that I met in a book. Quickly I was won over by his attitude: Seemingly cruel and heartless, but with a spark of humanity; determination beyond belief and an adult way of looking at things matures Artemis to an emotional age that very few characters display. Colfer's characters developed wonderfully: The child who is attempting desperately to be an adult (Artemis), the fairy who just wants to do her job in peace (Holly), the butler who is more of a father, albeit one who follows orders (Butler), the boss who doesn't understand why he is given the test case (Root), and the centuar who is delightfully paranoid (Foaly). Each character is armed with their own type of wit and understanding; interaction between characters mimicks interaction between humans beautifully. The story provides very laughable antics with wonderful props: I was under the impression that cigars and tinfoil were rather drab objects and discovered how sorely mistaken I was. ARTEMIS FOWL is a "finicky" book: either you enjoy it or you don't. This is due mainly to perception. While some enjoy laughing at Artemis' unusual dasterdly deeds, others are offended. Please, just don't pass ARTEMIS FOWL by without giving him a second chance.
Rating: Summary: A true work of Genius! Review: Deffinatly one of my favorite books! I can't say I can compare Harry Potter and Artemis fowl though...They are two different books, Harry Potter being one of my all time favorite books! I love them both! ^_^ they don't relate that much to each other, and I don't believe Artemis Fowl will ever be the next Harry Potter! I recommend this books to people that love magic and fantasy stories...To all ages...well exception to Really really young children...I believe it's bit more violent than Harry Potter! I hope this helped anyone who was considering this book!
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: This is a book about a young criminal mastermind and his plot to restore a family fortune. He finds out about the fairies that live underground, even though humans aren't supposed to know anything about them. Artemis's plan is to kidnap a LEPrecon officer to get ransom money. And he does just that. But he gets more than he expected, having underestimated the People. This is a really fun book to read, and I recommend it. It's not like the Harry Potter books. It envolves magic, sure, but it's a different kind of magic, and it's a different world.
