Rating: Summary: High School Blues Review: Spinelli does for girls in this book what he did for boys in Maniac Magee, which was awarded a Newbery Medal in 1991. The narrator, Leo Borlock, tells us about Stargirl, who is bigger than life, a mystery, a fascinating entity, but because of these very qualities is ultimately considered a nonconformist, and is therefore boycotted by the students of Mica High, much to Leo's dismay. (A story that claims no cultural heritage, just any state in any high school in America.)
Rating: Summary: GET THIS IMMEDIATELY! Review: ...[You] should get this immediately. It is a BEAUTIFUL and very TOUCHING book. Even though it wasnt meant to be said, at the end, I had a lump in my throat and my friend was crying. StarGirl has impressed all of us, not only Leo Borlock. The paragraph on the back is beautiful. Stargirl wins everyone over but this girl named Hillari ruins it for her and everybody hates her because she keeps cheering and helping the other team and embarasses people by singing Happy Birthday to them in the lunchroom. Leo totally, truly loves her and everybody resents him too. But, I wont tell you what happens in the end. An extremely well-written beautiful book. I thought some things in the book were wicked cute! Rating: Summary: The brightest star every hidden by clouds Review: "She was elusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was the faintest scent of a cactus flower, the flitting shadow of an elf owl. We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her to corkboard like a butterfly, but th epin merely went through and away she flew." Those are the exact words you will find on the back of this book. Stargirl is a tale of friendships, love, and a small school in a little town known as Mica, Arizona. You could call her a revolutionary, one of her own, and compared to the students at Mica she seemed to be the only one who didn't care what they thought. It seemed the more her classmates tried to figure her out, the father they got from understanding who she truly was. Ofcourse, they had their own theories for why Stargirl was the way she was: "She was trying to get herself discovered for the movies" "She was homeschooling gone amok" She was an alien". There were more theories than one could name but ofcourse none of them were true. Stargirl was definately something special, she was truly what we all wish we could be, free. It seems that when we try to deny ourselves who we are we tuck those feeling away somewhere, and it appeared in this book that Stargirl had captured all of those feeling in herself. Her with her ukulele and off the wall clothes, her with her pet rat and odd habits, and her with her never ending positive attitude that could make anybody happy, her being everything that everybody wanted to be, it was her, Stargirl Caraway who did something for Mica that it really needed, she made the students and people indivuduals, she let them be themselves which was something that each one of them felt they could never have the chance to do.

Rating: Summary: Was this book JUST for children? Review: A porcupine tie reached out and grabbed my heart in a way like no other inanimate object could, thanks to Stargirl. Jerry, was this book written JUST for children? Or, for the child in each of us longing to simply to be our own unique, individual self -- expressing our inimitability freely, without concern for reprisal from those who would choose to judge us for our distinctive personalities or fault our perspective towards giving of ourselves to others? Leaders are born every day in this world. None finer than Stargirl. I forwarded my copy of this book to someone who freely expressed her individuality, gave generously of her time, and made a true difference in my life for having done so. Please consider purchasing a copy of this book for yourself -- and forward another to someone who's filled the role of "Stargirl" in your life. It's a bit of an odd little story, for sure. But, it's a story you will NOT regret reading or passing on as a gift. It's amazing how many heart strings something so silly as a porcupine tie could pull on...
Rating: Summary: A 7th grade reader's review Review: I loved this book! It was one of those that pulled you in and didn't let you out until the end. It was very descriptive and unique. It was pretty close to perfect. The ending I would have wrote differently but other then that it was great! A MUST READ! Besides Harry Potter I have never wanted a sequal more!
Rating: Summary: a good review Review: "STARGIRL" skips the headlines and reads fill-up-the-gaps articles in newspapers, sings happy-birthday to everybody in the cafeteria, changes her name whenever she feels like, wears long wedding dresses to school, makes scrap books of random people and gives them to the owners few years later, makes a list what other people like, sends presents signed as anonymous, kisses a girl on the cheek who slaps her in the face, cheers for both opposing teams in a basketball game, performances with no audience, does her speech straight out of her mind, meditates in the desert, watches the sun rise every morning. She loves everybody. And lastly, she knows how to love. She¡¯s different but simple, probably the closest to what we all used to be. This book is told by a boy called Leo who observes her from 3rd point person point of view. He becomes "STARGIRL"'s boyfriend and discovers she's nothing like anybody else. Her abrupt downfall of popularity uncomforts Leo, and he refuses to chose between her and the crowd. This story teaches the readers that we live in a world where everybody is so the same, so concious of what we look like, what other people think about us. We don¡¯t realize the small things around us, don't even realize what is really IN us, which are far more important than what we really care for in life. "Stargirl" is like the victim of the hate and prejudice of the society but also an angel who always find ways to love people when they hate her. She makes the world a better place to live. Heaven really would be like that, no hate, no prejudice, no standards, whatsoever. Through "Stargirl" we learn how fixed we are and how CRUEL... After finishing this book, I realized that for a long time, I forgot what was true happiness in life. Buy my words. Buy this book. U won't regret it.

Rating: Summary: Absolutely Sweet!! Review: I loved this book. I read it from cover to cover. My grandma brought it over and I am older than the target audience, so I thought I might not like it, but I did. I think everyone can relate to it in some way. Read this book and tell your friends about it, whether you are a young adult or not!!
Rating: Summary: Best book eva! Review: Stargirl, Jerry Spinneli was one of the few books I love. We read it in English class. Anyway to get to the book. I thought it was grrrrreat. You never know whats going to happen even if you think you do. Stargirl a.k.a. Susan is an interesting character. She has a pet rat, a funny name and a creative personality. She's definetly not your average Joe. She wears funny clothes and does not think about what other people do. Hillary Kimble, the popular girl is not who you would want to meet in an alley around midnight. She is going out the cutest boy in school and her freinds aren't really her friends.
