Rating: Summary: Stargirl- The BEST book!!! Review: Stargirl is one of the best books I've ever read! It teaches kids that just because you are a little odd, it doesn't mean you aren't fun, caring, and exciting. That description fits Stargirl perfectly: odd, fun, caring, exciting, and unpredictable. Stargirl arives at Mica high with no friends. Everyone sees how different (and funny) she is, and a lot of the kids start to like her. But rooting for the oppisite team at the basketall game brings an end to stargirl's popularity. Kids start seeing her as strange, wierd, odd, and someone the definatly DO NOT want to hang out with. But her true friend (boyfriend) sticks by her side. Leo also used to be popular, but after hanging around with Stargirl so much, people are shunning Leo too. But that doesnt stop him from being stargirl's friend. I would recomend this book to grades 5,6,and 7. ...
Rating: Summary: You say Stargirl, but how about Maniacgirl? Review: I chose this book because when I read the back of the cover, I noticed it has tons to do with high school. I wanted to know more about highschool because that's where I'm going next year. When I started reading the first chapter of the book, I thought that "I" was Stargirl. But I later found out that "I" was Leo Borlock. I love that the author chose a story that had a teenage "first crush" in it. Jerry Spinelli took a chance of the book becoming corny. But to my surprise, the book was full of twists and turns, and definently not corny. Stargirl wears "women pioneer" clothes, carries a ukelali to school, goes to the funeral when a stranger dies, and is the most odd chearleader I have ever read about. At first every person at school wants to be her friend. But in the middle of the book, everything changes, and the school shuns her. Leo fights with the question of if he wants to be with the girl he likes, Stargirl, or does he want the approval of his school. I admire Stargirl for not being afraid to be an induvidual, even if the school turns their back on her.
Rating: Summary: incredible Review: This book is beyond words. The words Jerry Spinelli writes are flawless and magical, and this book is incredible. It's so hard to even explain it without destroying it, because any words I could use to describe the book would just take away from the magic of it. This book had me laughing and crying and I have never read anything as beautiful as this story. everyone should read it, and maybe somehow it will help you to understand how beautiful things can be
Rating: Summary: A melodramtic book Review: This book can be abridged to 100 pages. I really have to say I didn't like this book. At points I quite enjoyed it.. but I don't like the motives of the characters.
Rating: Summary: Super Book! Review: Jerry Spinelli pleased me once again with this book. From the beginning you never know what the exciting unpredictable character of Stargirl will do next. This book was a little humorous yet it still was somewhat serious. The story was very well written. This is a book that some of us can relate to. Either we have done something "different" that others have been intimidated by or we have met someone that surprised us and we did not know what to think of them. This book is definately on my top 10 list.
Rating: Summary: Stargirl Review: My review is on "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli. I'm not big on reading books, but Stargirl is something I would read. It is a very fun and interesting book. It's not too much toward young kids and it's not too much toward adults. It's more for kids going through adolescence. Stargirl can teach you things for later in life such as; you shouldn't change the way you are jus to be accepted. Personally, I wouldn't change myself for other people just to like me. I have my own way of things. That's what makes me an individual. Same as Stargirl. I don't think Stargirl should have changed her ways for other people. She's awesome just the way she is. Stargirl is an awesome book and I think that people who feel they should change themselves for other people should definitely read this book. It will teach you something.
Rating: Summary: Who are you? A Review on Stargirl Review: When first starting the book, my initial thought was that this would be a story where Stargirl would stay and grow up to marry Leo, but the outcome was quite different. When Stargirl arrives in Mica, Arizona, people think she is a little odd. She plays her ukulele and wears exotic clothes. But gradually, her simple kindnesses are appreciated. Stargirl, the main character, is unque and very unorthodox. In the story, told by her boyfriend, Leo, she starts "a rebellion, not against something, but for humanity". She brings joy and caring and shows those around her to do the same. Everyone loves her, admires her and wants to be her friend. Jerry Spinelli, the author has a very unique voice. The story is gentle, touching and very unpredicatble. Just when you think something is going to happen, you are thrown by the outcome. The overall message , or moral, is to live a full life; take time to help others, be yourself, and believe in yourself. I think this is a great lesson. I would recommend this book strongly to those who are unsure of themselves because this novel encourages you to become more 'you'.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: If you are one of the many kids who isn't completly normal, this book will make you laught and cry. Stargirl is amazing, but her story of love is sad. It brings you to this thoght "There is no such thing is perfect" To me, Stargirl is the closest to perfect girl I met. A must read.
Rating: Summary: beautiful Review: She was as strange as she was beautiful and as beautiful as she was mysterious. That was StarGirl, the newcomer to Mica High. Everyone was fascinated with her. The hallways were filled with talks of StarGirl. From the moment she arrived StarGirl captured Leo Borlock's heart with one smile. Everyone loved her. But then, she was rejected for everything that made her StarGirl, everything that made her different. Her boyfriend, Leo, begs her to be the one thing that can make everyone love her again; normal. But that isn't who StarGirl is. One woders whose affection does he value more; hers or the others? He loves Stargirl. This is the tale of acceptation, love and wonder. It is Sweet and timeless. After all, you only have one soul mate and if anything, Stargirl is Leo's.
Rating: Summary: A book all teenagers should read Review: I am not a young person or even a teenager but I was truly moved by this book. No matter who you are or what experiences you've had in your life, there has to be something in this book you can relate to and learn from. Of all the books by Jerry Spinelli that I've read, this is by far his best work. Stargirl is a fascinating character. Not only is she completely unaffected by what other people think of her, she is totally unafraid to be herself, and seems to hurt worse when people attempt to change who she is. As much as I liked Stargirl, the character I could really relate to is Leo, the narrator of the story who watches Stargirl from a distance with an unlikely fascination. His world is turned upside down when he becomes her friend and realizes Stargirl has a crush on him. I highly recommend this book, please do yourself a favor and read it!
