Rating: Summary: Review of Stargirl Review: Let me start out by saying that this book raised and lowered itself on my scale of one to ten throughout the book. I liked some chapters more than others. Jerry Spinelli, the author, dreamed up this amazing character who is not afraid to be herself. She was home-schooled up until high school and always wore long, old-fashioned dresses that her mother made for her. She would search the newspapers for birthdays and other events(funerals, welcome home parties, etc.). At lunch, she would sing "Happy Birthday" on her ukulele with her pet rat, cinnamon, on her shoulder. She fell in love with Leo, and he fell in love with her. It was all working out great, until he asked her to be normal. She tried to get popular and when she won first place in the Arizona State Oritorical Contest, she expected a huge crowd at the school. Instead, all she got was two teachers and a friend. She went home sad. In October, the... area high school had a dance. She came in a yellow dress with some sort of golden flower on her wrist. She started the Bunny Hop which went all around the golf course. When she left the dance, no one ever saw her again. Spinelli did a great job of writing similies and metaphores in this book, I just don't find it too interesting. I guess I just like normal people!
Rating: Summary: STARGIRL, STARGIRL!! Review: Read it with my class, and I love, really love this book! Stargirl is a sophomore, when she starts going to her new school. Before going to this new school Stargirl had been home schooled. Stargirl is really, really, wild, but she means very well, what I mean is she tries to be nice to everyone and make everyone happy, but sometimes that does not work out well. Hilari Kimble is very mean, mean to everyone especially, to Stargirl, not even for a good reason. ! I can't say anything more, sorry! STARGIRL is a fun and interesting charcher. I would recommend this book to all ages! I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Stars for 'Stargirl' Review: In this wonderful story Spinelli has created a character you just have to love. From the moment you are introduced to "Stargirl" you can't help but think something is different about this kid. The students are immediately struck by the magic of such a mystifying girl. And trust me, from the moment she seranades Alan Ferko in the cafeteria to the the second she makes an extravagant entrance at the ball, you will be urgeing nonconformity. This book shows through the eyes of Leo Borlock, narrator(and love intrest), that nothing is more inspiring than the people not afraid of being themselves. I warn you that this book made me laugh out loud and by the end I was crying uncontrollably. If you want a book about "...the magnificence and rarity of true nonconformity" then this is it!
Rating: Summary: Stargirl Review: This book was incredibly amazing. It combined humor and fantasy. The best part about Stargirl is the way the characters change in the story. I feal that you also learn a lesson from this book. Since having read this story I feel that I have learned that it is very important to be yourself no matter what the rest of the crowd thinks. Also, in this book you learn about the importance of giving to others without needing to have any repayment or recintion. This is a wonderful book that would be loved by the whole family young or old because we all still have lessons to learn.
Rating: Summary: Mikey Review: Dribble, Dribble! Sis Boom Bibble! We don't nibble! That is one of Stargirl's favorite phrases. Leo Borlock is a normal kid; he even has his own porcupine necktie collection. He receives a porcupine necktie from a stranger that didn't leave their name. Stargirl is an alien at her school. She is one friend, her pet rat named Cinnamon. She loves it to death! Stargirl did many strange things, like cheering for the other team at football games. In the end Stargirl has a hard time keeping her friends. The book was good for the most part, and sometimes exciting. The book was easy to relate too. I recommend reading this book if you want to read a book about a strange individual.
Rating: Summary: Stargirl is such a good book! Every teen should read it! Review: Stargirl is a totally awesome book that every teen should read. This book is a story about popularity, and how important it is to be popular, and how it is important to be yourself. The plot of this book is a homeschooled girl, Stargirl Caraway, starts going to Mica Area High School. MAHS is a typical American high school. Most people at that school act just like one another. Stargirl is very unique, and she amazes the other students. They at first like her, but then suddenly they don't. Stargirl, though, has a crush on the story's narrator, Leo Borlock. Leo likes Stargirl, too, but if he goes out with her, everyone at MAHS would shun him, like they shun Stargirl. What will Leo choose, popularity or going out with Stargirl? Stargirl is such a great book! This book talks about issues that are very real to teens, such as popularity, trying to be yourself, and going out. Stargirl is a nice girl who tries to do good things for people, but not a lot of people like her. Reading this book totally made me think about how I am to people who are not like me at my school. At first, reading this book, I thought people at my school wouldn't be as mean to new people as the characters are to Stargirl. But reading this book made me change my opinion. People at my school, unfourtanately, WOULD be that mean, and probably not know it. Reading this book really shows how that meanness affects others, and shows a very real view of teen life. I think I now am a little less judgemental of people after reading this book. It is a sad book, with a very great story and message. I very, VERY highly reccomend Stargirl.
Rating: Summary: Decent Review: I thought that Stargirl was a 3 star book. The ideas that the book put forth were very realistic and I could relate them to my life. However, I didn't think that the book was very interesting. I think the plot should have had more action in it and some weird twists and turns along the way. It was a very heartwarming book but it just needed something more.
Rating: Summary: A really great book Review: One of the best books I have ever read is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. There are several reasons why I like this book . To begin with, Stargirl , the main character , is not afraid to be herself. She plays the ukulele, wears clothes from a long time ago, and sings " Happy Birthday" to everyone on his or her birthday. Next, it shows the importance of how you should not care what other people think. Whenever people make fun of Stargirl for how different she is, she just keeps on laughing and smiling like nothing happened . Last, the book is really funny. At one part in the book, a snobby girl stands up to Stargirl, but she pulls out her ukulele and starts singing to her ! I actually laughed out loud while reading this great book. So if you ever want a really interesting and good book to read, pick up Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, and you won't be able to put it back down.
Rating: Summary: Stargirl Review: Stargirl Random House Inc., 2000, 186 pp, $8.95 Jerry Spinelli ISBN 0-375-82233-X Leo is a regular boy in a regular school with regular friends. He likes collecting porcupine neckties ever since his grandpa gave it to him as a going away present. Then one day he gets a porcupine necktie from an anonymous person, and that's when his life changes. The first day of school he hears everyone talking about a new girl in school. Then he finally sees her and he is shocked because she dresses odd, doesn't wear makeup, and has a ukulele. At first everyone in the school gets along with her well, and she joins the cheerleading club. Hillari Kimble, another cheerleader, thought Stargirl was a scam. She thought Stargirl was a nutcase and maybe Stargirl's odd behavior would help make students go to the games or join in on clubs. Later on everyone starts hating her because she cheers for both teams not just their school team. Leo and his friend Kevin want to put her on Hot Seat and when they do, things go horribly wrong. Stargirl is an excellent book and I myself thought it was pretty good. I liked that they show laughter, excitement, sadness, and more. I also liked that the author described the book in good detail. How Stargirl was different from everyone else and how she wanted to be different because she didn't want to have a normal life. She didn't want to dress the same, act the same, and talk the same way everyone else did. She wasn't afraid of embarrassment or what people thought of her, she just wanted to be herself. I recommend this book to people who aren't afraid to be themselves and I hope you like this book and enjoy reading it because I know I did. Ernesto Martinez
Rating: Summary: Interesting Book! Review: The first day of school all Leo heard was "Did you see her?" "What is she doing here?" "Does she belong here?" But Leo was wondering who she was until lunch. He saw her and he told his best friend Kevin "Who is she?" That was a part of Star Girl it sound really interesting write but it really isn't because it ends up being boring in the middle then good at the way end like when it almost ends. I did want to put it down but I could not because my mom did not let me so I read it all. In a way it was interesting and another it was not.
