Rating: Summary: Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover Review: When I was first told that this book was a choice to read I immediately thought that it was going to be a stupid book about a pair of pants. Boy, was I way off. Not only is this book about a pair of pants, but it's also about four friends and that pair of pants being the only way they can be together on their first summer away from each other. These four friends were totally different but were linked together by a special bond their mothers once had for each other. Lena was the shy, beautiful one, Carmen was the rebel, Tibby was the outgoing individual, and Bridget was the rebel that didn't take no as an answer. Each girl is spending her summer someplace different. Lena is in Greece with her sister and grandparents. Bridget is at a soccer camp in Baja, California. Carmen is in South Carolina with her dad, and Tibby is stuck at home working at Wallman's. The book goes on to explain each of the girl's experiences and the adventures they encounter. Lena falls in love with the Greek boy Kostas. Bridget is trying to go out with Eric, the hot camp counselor and soccer coach. Carmen just found out her dad was remarrying to a "perfect" bride. And Tibby befriends a little girl with leukemia. As the girls communicate to each other through letters and the pants, they grow worried about some events and rejoice over others. This book is about the true friendships that are complicated to find in today's society. Through the excitement and the tears this book will make you want to jump right in the book and comfort and celebrate with each of the girls through their triumphs and tears.
Rating: Summary: The Sisters Behind the Sisterhood Review: One of the novels chosen to be a member of the 2003-2004 Rosie List, in an attempt to win the Eliot Rosewater Indiana High School Book Award was written by Ann Brashares. Her novel is titled The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and it is indeed a wonderful story to happen to read. One main reason why I was able to gain this great emotion from merely reading the story was in the way it was told: through the characters. The four main characters: Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bee are four best friends who are spending their first summers away from each other when they discover the magic of a pair of thrift store pants, which end up binding them together through the summer. Each girl is so unique from the next, yet they are able to share a bond almost like sisterhood. First you have Tibby, who unfortunately didn't travel any where over the summer. She is the rebel who will stand up for what she believes in and does care what other people think of her. Lena is the beautiful one, so they say, however she finds herself unable to connect personally with strangers and she is quite shy and likes to keep mostly to herself while she travels to Greece to spend the summer with her Greek grandparents. Bee, actually named Bridget, is another very bold girl and she goes after what she wants. Sometimes her desires overpower he ability to have common sense, especially while she is away in Baja, Mexico at a soccer camp. Last, but not least, is Carmen, she is outspoken like her friends and tells people what is on her mind. Her parents are divorced and Carmen is psyched to spend her summer in North Carolina with her father, only to find out she will soon be getting a step family.Without great characters, such as Carmen, Bee, Tibby, and Lena, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants would not have been as great a novel as it is.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK! Review: This book has all genres, at bit of comedy, romance, tradgedy, and adventure. Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: This book is about 4 girls who have their first summer apart. The beautiful Lena goes to Greece to visit her grandparents developing a relationship with Kostos whom she meets there, Tibby who stays home and gets a summer job and Wallman's and develops a great friendship with a girl Bailey, Bridget who goes to soccer camp and falls in love with one of the men who work there, and Carmen going to her father's house and finding a huge suprise that shes not so happy about. The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants is a great read, and I guarentee most girls would love it with the romances, and hidden secrets. I recommend this for girls from ages 12-16!
Rating: Summary: i want these magical pants! Review: I am 30, and I read this book because my MOM recommended it to me! Obviously, Ann Brashares' writing has universal appeal. _The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants_ is about four 15 year old best friends who must spend the summer apart for the first time, and the Pants, found in a thrift store and magical because they fit all four girls perfectly, are sent from girl to girl to take part in their (mis)adventures. Carmen visits her father in the south and is in for an unpleasant surprise; Lena spends some confusing time with her grandparents in Italy; Bridget is a shooting star at soccer camp; Tibby stays in Maryland (home) to work at a chain drugstore and makes some unlikely new friends. Each chapter begins with a quote from sources as varied as James Joyce and Beck, and each girl's voice is fresh and believable. My only criticism would be that the traveling independence that these teenagers enjoy seems more fitting for those in college than for girls with two years of high school left: "She left a note for her mom on the kitchen table... took a bus to the airport, where she picked up an expensive round-trip ticket that she'd reserved last night with her father's 'emergencies and books' credit card... she slept peacefully across three seats on the two-hour flight to Charleston... then she took a cab to the Episcopal church on Meeting Street." Considering that I'm twice as old as this character I'm sure I'm behind the times, but when I was 15 I had to ask permission to go across town to a friend's house, and to this day I'd probably have a hard time hopping a plane by myself and getting a cab in an unfamiliar city. That small item aside, I truly loved this book and was moved to tears more than once. I recommend it to anyone of any age and eagerly look forward to reading the next installment in the Pants saga.
Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: This fantastic book keeps you interested, sympathetic, and laughing most of the time. While the storyline was unexpectedly mature in some ways, the characters are sophisticated, savvy, and very likeable. Adults as well as teens will enjoy this book, and eagerly head to the store for the companion, "The Second Summer..." Buy it, read it, laugh, cry, and pass it on.
Rating: Summary: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Review: Carmen got a pair of jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great; they were worn and dirty. On the night before she and her friend's part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. Tibby stops her and says that she thinks they're great. She would love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen, who never thinks she looks good in anything, thinks she looks nice in the pants. They decide to share the pants over their summer away from each other. They make up rules for the use of the pants. Lena takes them with her to visit her grandparents in Greece, where she meets a boy named Kostos. She goes skinny dipping in a pond. Kostos shows up and sees her. He says that he is sorry, but Lena is still mad. Her grandparents think Kostos took advantage of her, so her grandfather gets into a fistfight with Kostos's grandfather. Later, on her second time with the pants, she is surprised to find that she likes Kostos. With the pants, she finds the courage to tell Kostos that she liked him and give him the painting she had made for him. Tibby gets them next. She was home working at Wallman's. She meets a girl named Bailey, who's ill with leukemia. Bailey helps Tibby make her documentary and they become good friends. Later, Tibby gets the pants again. Bailey has to stay in the hospital. Tibby visits her in the pants. Soon, Bailey dies. Carmen went to stay with her father. She finds that he has a new family. He had met a woman with two blond kids. Her father and his fiancée were going to get married on August nineteenth. Carmen is really mad at her father, so, wearing the pants, she throws a rock through the window and runs away. Later, she borrows the pants from Tibby. She buys a plane ticket and flies to see her father's wedding. Bridget brings them to soccer camp, where the pants bring her good luck each game. The job Bridget really wants them to do is to help her have a relationship with Eric, one of the coaches, who Bridget really likes. She is disappointed because even though Eric likes her, they can't go out because it is against the rules. This excellent book shows how a pair of pants helps to connect four very diverse friends during their summer apart.

Rating: Summary: A Book for Girls, and the Guys that Don't Understand Them Review: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a suspenseful, loving story of four best friends who had to spend a summer apart. Carmen, Tibby, Lena, and Bridget are those four best friends. They have always been best friends, ever since their mothers' sparked a friendship while they were still pregnant. The girls had never been away from each other for more than two weeks, so the whole summer apart was obviously a challenge. These girls were all connected by one item over the summer. The strange and unbelievable item gave the girls the confidence they needed to make it through the summer. The strange and unbelievable item was a pair of magical pants. The pants were referred to as the traveling pants. The pants fit anyone who tried them on. The pants fit a curvy Carmen, a petit Tibby, a sporty Bridget, and a bland Lena. The pants also made each girl look fantastic. The pants gave each girl a feeling of confidence and beauty. The pants traveled from Maryland, to Baja, to Greece, and to South Carolina. The pants went through many experiences with the girls, but they were used to give the girls extra confidence. The pants went to Maryland with Tibby. Tibby is the petit girl who stayed home all summer. Tibby got a job at a local store called Walman's. While working Tibby accidentally met a young girl named Bailey. Tibby net Bailey when she passed out and Tibby rode with her to the hospital. Bailey taught Tibby many lessons over the summer. Bailey kept a secret from Tibby. Once Tibby discovered the secret she was soon able to appreciate life and the fact that it doesn't last for ever. The pants were in Greece with Lena. Lena is the bland girl who went to Greece with her sister. Lena went to Greece to visit her grandparents. While Lena was in Greece her grandma introduced her to a cute Greek boy named Kostos. Before meeting Kostos Lena always felt suspicious of boys. At first she had the same feeling about Kostos, but Kostos soon taught Lena that boys don't always have bad motives. The pants were in Baja, Mexico with Bridget. Bridget is the sporty girl who was at an elite soccer camp. While at camp, Bridget fell head over heels in love with a counselor at the camp. His name was Eric. The only two obstacles that stood in Bridget's way of captivating Eric happen to be two huge obstacles. The first one is that Eric is three years older than Bridget. Those three years made a gigantic difference on a maturity level. The second obstacle was the fact that Eric is a camp counselor. One of the main rules at the camp is that the counselors shouldn't get romantically involved with the campers. Obviously Bridget found herself in a bit of a controversy and a lot of trouble. Eric taught Bridget that growing up too fast is a curse. The pants were also in South Carolina with Carmen. Carmen is the curvy girl who went to visit her father. Carmen wanted to spend some quality time with her father one on one, but she didn't get to do that. In fact the single, carefree father she loved had changed so much since she last saw him. Carmen didn't like her new changed father, and she hated his new lifestyle. Over the summer Carmen learned that change isn't always a bad thing, it's just a new thing. Carmen had many people to teach her this lesson. Overall, the girls each learned something over the summer. The pants helped each girl learn something because it gave the girls extra confidence. This fantastic book teaches many lessons. It is a great book, especially for young girls. The book helps every girl feel beautiful, and anyone can relate to its plot.
