Summary: Pants
Review: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" by Ann Brashares is an intriguing and entertaining story about four teenage girls who were friends before birth, inside their mothers' stomachs. Even though the friends have to spend their first summer apart, they will always have a special pair of pants to remember each other by. The pants somehow help them through their trials and tribulations. The story contains the three important L's; life, laughter, and love. On a scale of one through ten, the book rates a ten. The plot is very realistic and keeps the reader hooked. It is a light and funny novel that instigates nostalgia for that one special summer with your best friends, "To honor the Pants. And the sisterhood. And this moment. And this summer. And the rest of our lives." The author's style is very descriptive, it conveys a lot of detail in the writing with imagery. The reflective images of the girls and their thoughts let you go into the girls's minds to discover their views. The diction is very different, resembling a teenager's conversation with words like, "phat." If you liked "The Princess Diaries" or "A Time for Dancing," you will like this great book.

Summary: FOUR BEST FRIENDS UNITED THROUGH MAGICAL PANTS
Review: In the novel The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants there are four girls who embark on a journey. These four teenage girls: Carmen, Tibby, Bridget, and Lena, are best friends and haven't been apart from each other for that long. Each of the four girls went separate places during the summer. Carmen went to her father's house, Tibby stayed home , Bridget went to an expert soccer camp, and Lena went to Greece. Before they all leave for their many adventures, they discover a magical pair of pants that amazingly fit all of their unique body figures. The four girls make up ten basic rules that you have to follow when you are wearing the pants. For a week at a time, each girl got the pants at least twice, and had many adventures in them.
I would recommend this book to the female gender. If a guy were to read this book, he would think it is so absolutely boring and that he is going to fall asleep. The reason I think this is true because this book is basically about a pair of pants that held a friendship together even though they are far away from each other. A girl on the other hand wouldn't really mind reading a book about friendship. I, myself, couldn't put the book down because of all of the situations that everyone goes through in this book and could even relate to it sometimes. A sign of a good book is when you can relate to the character. Over all I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend reading it to the female gender.

Summary: Teen Librarian loved this book!
Review: Packs an emotional wallop ! I couldn't put this book down. I selected it for one of our Teen Book discussions and hadn't even read the book yet. I became completely engrossed in the experiences and emotions of all four girls. The descriptions of Greece and Baja California were colorful and vivid...now I really want to go to both places! There is much in this novel that young ladies (and not so young) will relate to (i.e. friendships, death, broken families, romance, honesty, it goes on and on). Highly recommended. Here's hoping for a sequel!

Summary: Excellent book -- not just for teens!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it this summer! I saw the book in a book store, and was drawn to it. I put off buying it, but what a treat when I did!

My biggest advice in reading this book is that you have to make some time to read it at first. The book skips around from character to character, and once you get into that, it's okay. But, I read the first 20 pages as just a few pages at a time, and I almost gave up on the book. But, then I read the rest of the book in two sittings. I had a hard time putting The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants down! It was a believable book overall. It was full of emotion, and a nice easy read.

As soon as I finished the book, my very first thought was, "I hope that Brashares writes a book about the following summer!" (And I was so excited to just find out that there will be another book, and it will be released in April 2003.)

I think this would be a really great book for a mother and daughter to read and discuss together!

Summary: I wish I had a pair!
Review: This book is mostly a girl's book, but regardless of the "chick flick" stigma, it is a seriously well-written book. The book appeals to younger readers with the discovery of the "magic pants", the pair of jeans that mysteriously fit each of the characters--and make them look pretty good. However, the later chapters are much richer, drawing the reader in from a simple, lighthearted start into four separate and complex stories, all united by the traveling pants. Carmen must deal with an unexpected stepfamily, Bridget takes a crush too far, Lena doesn't take her crush far enough, and Tibby, at home, learns more about death than she wanted to. I think this book is especially good for younger readers, because it's an easy read, but introduces complex themes. Nearly any group of girlfriends can find themselves in this group. What I did was read it and then force it on all my girlfriends. It's still in the process, but it's a fun book to share. And if anyone ever finds pants like these, send them to me, please!
