Summary: Ponyboy and Johnny become good children when...
Review: Ponyboy and his best friends Johnny have to learn to live out in the country, after growing up in the city, living in gangs. This all happens when Johnny kills a Soc (their rivals), and they have to learn to live on their own, and fend for themselfs, and take what life gives to them, whether it be good or bad.

Summary: let me make one thing clear: THERE WERE NO GANGS
Review: Okay, first of all there were no gangs in the book. The greasers were called Greasers because that was their style, in the same way Elvis Presley was a greaser. The "Socs" was just a slang term for the folks on the other side of town and they only stalked and jumped the greasers the same way "jocks" pick on "nerds". Except for the rumble over the "Soc" Johnny accidentally killed while saving Ponyboy, the struggle was not about gang warfare; it was social classes, between the lower-middle class to poor and the upper-middle class to rich. They may have hung out in groups of friends but that didn't make them street gangs, as we may or may not know them today. No codes, initiations, affiliations, nor obligations to anyone or anything, and anyone could come and go out of their group or circle as they pleased with no worrys of the circle's feeling betrayed. NOW, AS FAR AS THE BOOK IS CONCERNED: it's thoroughly readable, I don't know how many times I've read it myself but I'm sure I'd need more than 8 fingers and 2 thumbs to count them. Off-hand, I don't know anyone personally who hasn't also read it and/or seen the movie (which is almost identical to the book only they cut out just a small handful of vital parts. I.E. Ponyboy temporarily dropping his sensitivity and braininess, to name just one). Anyway, it's a good book and good story for the time it was written. Maybe some of the minute details are a bit outdated (back then switchblades, today machine guns) but it's still a good read. Two thumbs up for S.E. Hinton, who was about sixteen when she wrote this.

Summary: The Outsiders was the most interesting book that I've read
Review: The Outsiders was an interesting book. To say the truth, it was the most interesting book that I have ever read. It has inspired me to read more. Some suggestions to read are That Was Then, This Is Now, and Tex.

Summary: One of the most affecting books you'll ever read.
Review: I first read this book when I was in 8th grade, and since then have read it at least another 15 times. I became obsessed with the book, there was never a book that could move me like this one. Ponyboy was someone I could relate to, I felt what he felt. You absolutely must read this fantastic book, but don't forget your tissues, and prepare yourslf, because you won't be able to put this book down until you're finished. i am now 28 and this is still my favorite book ever, the only book I still read again and again.

Summary: Wow is all i can say
Review: I'm in 8th grade and everyone in my class is in the middle of the book, but I'mat the end for my third time. I'm not very emotinal, but I bawld for ever when I read this! I can't wait to buy it and read it over and over.... If you haven't read this DO SO!!!!!!

Summary: Excellent book
Review: This book teaches you many lessons about life. A thriller by S.E. Hinton, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. Hinton's description of each character and each scene was well done and I could see images of what was happening.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Too shallow in the detail section
Review: I guess I didn't think this book was so great. It is told from an interesting point of view, but the plot development was too shallow. The beggining is better than the end because there is more description and detail at the beggining. I don't know about other people, but from where I am, this book has no relation to present-day occurences, and I certainly can't relate to it at all.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I empathized with the characters
Review: Overall I liked The Outsiders. It kept my interest by being suspensful and detailed. The author made it so that I had empathy for the characters. Eventhough it`s part of the story, The Outsiders had a little to much violence for me.

Summary: RIVETING
Review: Bang! Screech! Oh no! From every point of view to every feeling you could have, S.E. Hinton's, THE OUTSIDERS gives you all of these. It is a book about gangs and a gang's life in the late 60's. I recommend the book for children 13 and up. I hope that anyone who likes a good book will read this one. I never wanted to put it down.
