Rating: Summary: Only the Truth! Review: I really liked The Outsiders because it deals with real issues. Like with gangs and the "preppy's". My favorite character was Two-Bit because he's got a really good sense of humor. My least favorite character was Johnny because he was always down and out. You can see any of the things that happened happening in real life. If you don't like fights and just like really peaceful books then I don't recommend you read this book. It was overall very good, though. It is definitely a five star book.
Rating: Summary: What a great book Review: This is a book about the popualr kids and the hoods. It shows what really happened in the earlier years. Even thoughI don't like to read much I liked this book. It had action through the whole book. If the teacher would of read it all day I wouldn't got tired of it. It had some real funny parts and lots of action parts. I liked how they didn't care what was in there path they just did whatever they felt like doing. Most of them didn't care about there lifes if they got thrown in jail they'd get right out and do it again. They loved to fight, drink, and smoke that was the life of the greasers. Most of them didn't live long. It was a great book
Rating: Summary: greasers Review: I like greaser style, I like the 1950's. This book has that style, yet it has that teen angst feel you need when you're young. I read it when I was twelve, and I'd still read it now. I don't agree with the 9-12 age rec. It's a great coming of age tale, but when you get older you appreciate it even more. I like this book and also would reccommend American Graffitti and The Wanderers....
Rating: Summary: The Outsiders Review: In the book, a group of boys face many difficulties. In their city, there are two groups of social classes. The lower class are called Greasers and are known for their "tuff" (cool) hair. THe high class are called Socials, or Socs. The story follows a 14 year old named Ponyboy, who lives with his two older brothers, Darry and Sodapop, because their parents died earlier. The Greasers are close friends that always stick together and have various fights with the Socs to defend their name. Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny got into a fight with some Socs one night and ended up killing a Soc accidentally. They hid in a church in the countryside and they stayed there for several days. They left for dinner once and when they returned, they saw that the church was on fire. They rescued children that were inside and became heroes, but they still had to worry about the murder and the police finding them. Even worse, Johnny's life was being threatened by serious burns and the Greasers had to learn to stick together even more to get through the hard times to come.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books! Review: The Outsiders is one of my favorite books of all time. S.E. Hinton is an amazing author. The Outsiders is a book about a 14 year old boy named Ponyboy, and his family and friends struggles. One day, something happens that can change his life forever, and he and his friend Johnny flee to escape it. But they can't leave behind what they left. This book will keep you spellbound until the very last page! Read this book! You won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: The outsiders Review: I think this book was a great book. When I first read it I liked it so much that i read it every day. I even took it to school to read in my reading period. I liked this book because to me it was very touching. The thing I liked about it was when Ponyboy was at the hospital and his brothers came to visit him. He thought that Darry really didn't care but he saw him sort of crying and they gave each other hugs. That was sweet. I also like it because there was some action and hattred that made me read more. Like when they were having a rumble.Another thing that made me like this book was the fact that there was real close friendships and caring going around. Everyone cared about Jonny and always respected him. The sadest part in this book was when Jonny was dead. I thought that was sad because to me he was like an innocent. He had no brothers or sisters, and had parents that didnt care about him. The only people that cared about him was the gang. Also when Dally kills himself because Jonny was dead. That was sad because Dally lost the only person he really cared about. I liked this book because there was courage, for ex. when they ran in the burning church, there was friendship like gang had for Jonny and many more. I really liked this book because it has inspired me to read more exciting books like this one. S.E. Hinton did a great jop writing this book.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: i had to read this book in jr. high and i thought it would be another boring book with really no plot but i was wrong! the first couple of chapters are boring but it gets better and i really like the ending........
Rating: Summary: This was a great book! Review: I really enjoyed this book. It is wonderful and it was the writer's first novel. I loved this book SO MUCH! I recommend this book to anyone, even if they think they don't like reading. I wasn't exactly an avid reader and now i love to read because this book was so good, i couldn't put it down! My mom was constantly nagging me to stop reading and eat dinner. I even ate while i read it! I loved this book and I think a lot of people would too.
Rating: Summary: Still a favorite Review: I first read this book in 7th grade; I couldn't put it down then and still enjoy it now. What makes the book amazing in its own right is that it was written by a perceptive, gifted 16 year old and it was written from the heart. Some aspects of the book bugged me when I first read it, such as why Ponyboy felt his older brother despised him when it is clear from the beginning of the book that Darry loved him. Big brothers who despise you don't make you put Band-Aids on cuts, make you come home on time, or go out of their way to pick you up from the movies. Yes he hit him when Pony came home late, but only because he was so worried. Pony is 14, after all, and therefore a little egocentric. Darry is harder on Pony than he is on other brother Soda because Pony is the youngest, and also has a lot of potential if he would start paying attention. Soda is the big brother everyone would love to have-a lot of fun, good looking, and willing to listen to your problems without making fun of you. We are also as shocked as Pony to find out that even Soda has problems; he just keeps them to himself. Though hardened Dally blows up and gets himself killed when buddy Johnny dies, one wonders that even if Johnny had lived if Dally would have ended up differently. Hinton does a good job convincing us that rich kids have just as tough a time as poor kids, though admittedly in different ways. Pony is an orphan, but he is shown more love and concern by his two older brothers than the Socs are shown by their own parents, and certainly more than Johnny and Dally received from theirs, which is none at all. One wonders what Pony will become in the years to follow, and what sort of father he will be to his own children. We can only hope they do not have green eyes-those who have read the book will know what I mean. :-)
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I first read this book in middle school, and I've read it again many times since then. Each time I read it it just gets better and applies to more and more aspects of my life. I haven't ever been able to put it down once I've started reading it.
