Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Overall helpful book Review: After using this book in hopes of being able to tackle the "level 4" and "level 5" questions on the SAT I Verbal section I was not very impressed with the level of difficulty the Kaplan SAT Verbal Workbook provided. Most of the questions in the analogy and sentence completion section are the lower level questions on the SAT I Verbal. It is quite common for the last questions in the SAT I Verbal section to have very difficult vocabulary. However, in the Kaplan's SAT I Verbal Workbook, you will find questions that are labeled by CollegeBoard with a difficulty rating of somewhere around three, sometimes four, and very rarely, five. On the other hand, this book provides a very good set of problems in the Critical Reading Sections. In addition to an accurate model of the actual exam (to some extent), the answer explanations are very clear compared to other prep books. Overall, I would give this a 4 out of 5 because, while it does prepare you well for the SAT I Verbal, if the person using this book was only to use this book, he would discover on the SAT I that the analogies that are level 4 and 5 will be rather difficult for him. I am aware that there is a vocabulary section in the book, however, a large part of practicing analogies and sentence completion is getting used to using difficult vocabulary words in actual problems

Review: As a student, I was pretty disappointed after getting the exact same score twice in a row after using this book (meaning it didn't improve my score at all). It's good practice and pretty comprehensive, but the real problem is that all the problems are easier than those on the real SATs. (Which might falsely boost your confidence.) The words used in the analogies and sentence completions are all more basic than ones you'd find on the SATs too. For example, in the last analogy problem of a set (which is supposed to be the hardest problem), the hardest word was "avarcious"...in another it was "insurrection" (The real SAT would have much harder words than that.) Nevertheless, it's still a good book to get, considering it has a list of common SAT words in the back.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Another good Kaplan product. Review: As usual, Kaplan has come through with a trustworthy guide to the SAT. In this instance, their coverage of the verbal section of the SAT is detailed and easy-to-follow. Though I feel that the verbal section is my strongest on the SAT, I still benefited from all the drills and exercises contained in this book. Certain to be of great help to everyone considering taking the SAT and a good complement to other, more comprehensive SAT books.

After reading through the reviews of various SAT books, I found that this one was probably one of (if not) the best. I have already taken the ACT; however, I know that I did terrible on it. So, I have decided to switch to the SAT instead. The thing that I was wondering was about how much time would you say it takes to effectively study this book (ALONG WITH an SAT Math section book)? I'm hoping for 1500+ on my ACT, so I was wondering what the approximate time frame is for two of these books. Thank you!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What an amazing book to study with! Review: I am a sophomore who came to the United States two years ago. I was pretty desperate because I only would have three years to prepare for the SATs, which I had no idea what they were. I got a 310 in verbal and 510 in math, which add up to an 820. I was quite sadened because I was one of the best kids in math in Korea. I told myself that I would easily get above a 700 if I enhance my reading ability. However, I mostly guessed every question in verbal section. I did not even read the passages, I had no idea what the words meant. If there had been 300 words in verbal, I might have known only about 10 to 20 words. I'd read books for three hours and memorized 20 words a day since then. I've taken a practice SAT test at the beginning of the sophomore year. Amazingly enough, I got a 350 in verbal and 710 in math. I did not guess every problem in verbal. It was my true work! I've taken the PSAT in October of Sophomore year. I got a 39 in verbal and 71 in math. Now, I was pretty mad at myself. My standard wasn't that low. I was aiming for the Ivy League Colleges. I told myself that I should get about 1550 at the end of the junior year. For the last three months, I've been reading books at least three hours and memorizing 50 words a day. You know what I got on a practice SAT test last week? 560 in verbal and 800 in math!!! total 1360. I've improved almost 500 points in two years. I'm on a roll to get 1550 in SATs next year~!!

Review: I first had my experience with an SAT-like test in the PSAT, which I took in 10th grade. I did fairly well, receiving a 68 (out of 80) on the verbal section; however, this year in 11th grade when I took the PSAT again, my verbal score went down 5 points to a 63, a fact that I found quite distressing. In an effort to raise my verbal score when it came time to take the real thing, I decided that this looked like a good investment, and boy was I right. Doing a good number of the practice problems in this helped me raise my score to a 750 on the verbal portion of the actual SAT. I also purchased and recommend "The Procrastinator's Guide to the SAT," another book by Kaplan, as the use of both together will help any of you out there looking to improve your verbal score.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great book! Review: I found this book to be very helpful. It has quality examples, a good amount of them, and great explanations. If you struggled with the verbal portion of the SAT, I would buy this book solely for the explanations.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: EVEN BETTER THAN THE PRINCETON REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I recently purchased the Kaplan SAT Verbal Workbook. Having also used the Princeton Review Verbal Workout and found their amount of practice exercises to be abstemious, I was delighted by the cornucopia of valuable questions in Kaplan. Also, they use better quality paper than The Princeton Review and are cheaper! All and all, this is an excellent piece of work. Moreover, it contains two full-length verbal tests with detailed explanations of every exercise in the entire book! The Princeton Review is a worthy workbook but is a prosaic predecessor of the the Kaplan SAT Verbal Workbook. If you have the time and the money, buy both today. If you really only have the appetence to purchase one book, buy THE KAPLAN SAT VERBAL WORKBOOK! It's not just a putative necessity for the SAT writer; it is the definitive piece in SAT verbal workbooks. Buy it today!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great... Review: I took the SAT 1 previously and got a pretty poor score. But after mugging on this book, esp the sentence and passage based questions, I found my scores improving dramatically. The vocab list is rather excessive and i recommend the 500 words book. But still, it is pretty solid for an ambitious student.
