Summary: Thought-Provoking
Review: This was book is a good read, but definitely not one of those can't-put-it down thrillers. It presents a plot that mingles with the issues of growing up in strong monoracial surroundings.
I give respect to its representation of the importance and influences of culture in such situations, and how these same influences lead to problematic circumstances. Throughout its vignettes, Cisneros portrays a character that is constantly in query and contest with her surroundings as she grasps understanding of the world around her.
In summary, the book will, at best, make you take a moment to examine how the world of Mango Street is much like yours. This book definitely provides insight into how the world works, but will offer nothing when it comes to changing it. It is interesting and quick, but if you looking for excitement, you may want to take a gander at those Harry Potter books...

Summary: MadESHS
Review: Reviewer: Madhav (see more about me) from CA, USA
The book was very interesting and thorough. It was a good book but some readers may not be used to the way the book was made. Since the book has no plot and just has many short stories that make a big picture at the end, it can get very odd. The story was pretty good once you get used to the book having no plot. Sandra Cisneros makes a spectacular ending that rounds the whole story up. Cisneros does a wonderful job with this book and she was very creative. This book is given 4 stars by me because it was a good book but getting used to a book with no plot took me a longer time.

Summary: the house on mango st.
Review: THIS BOOK ABOUT A YOUNG GIRL GROWING UP IN THE "BAD PART OF TOWN" IS THE WIERDEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. IT IS MADE UP OF A BUNCH OF SMALL DESCRIPTIONS OF EVENTS IN HER LIFE AND DOSENT MAKE ENOUGH SENSE UNTILL YOU GET TOWARDS THE END OF THE BOOK. THIS FEATURE MADE THIS BOOK MOST UNENJOYABLE TO READ BUT IN THE LONG RUN AGTER BEING FORCED TO READ THE WHOLE THING AND EVERYTHING CAME TOGETHER IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD BOOK. I WOULD KIND OF RECOMEND THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT REALLY GIVES YOU A VEIW OF WHAT ITS LIKE LIVEING IN A POOR NEIBORHOOD BUT THERES A BUNCH OF WAY BETTER BOOKS OUT THERE.

Summary: Review for The House on Mango Street
Review: I enjoyed this book. Though at times it got confusing. Once I understood that it was based on a mosaic instead of having a plot, I thought it was quite good. This story is a mosaic of the main character's dreams, aspirations, and events in her life. I recomend this story to anyone who enjoys a masterpiece.

Summary: Review for Mango Street
Review: I think this book is interesting and very easy to read. What makes this book different from other books I've read is there is no plot. Each chapter has its own story. When put together, the chapters make one large story that describes Esperanza's life and what she remembers about it.
The main character, Esperanza, was a child in the beginning of the book, but she gradually matures and experiences real life situations. Esperanza wasn't like most of the other girls her age. She wanted to be independent and daydreamed of having her own house one day. Everything she went through led her to understand life better.
I recommend this book to anyone because it isn't difficult to understand and because it is enjoyable to read.

Summary: Disappointing Novel
Review: I personally did not like The House On Mango Street. Unlike most books, this book had no set plot. Each chapter had it's own little story. In the end you have to put together all the little stories to get the whole story.
I thought this book was boring, and I would not recommend it to anyone

Summary: The House On Mango Street review(final review)
Review: The House on Mango Street was a very interesting book that took some pondering. It was not a book filled with a lot of action but it was good from a poetic point of view. This story centers around a girl names Esperenza and her life on Mango Street. She is a girl who wants a nice house on a nice strret somewhere else, but is stuck on Mango Street. Mango Street is in the poor part of town. There are mainly Mexicans on the street and around the neighborhood. Esperenza feels safe in her neighborhood and she grows up there. Her life is filled with many different sections as she grows and understands more aspects of life. The whole stor is based on the point that Esperenza wants to be somewhere else and when u want to be somewhere else you never realize what you have right in front of you. I think many people will enjoy this wonderfully told story. Chip Angeles

Summary: A Million Chapters to Make a Girl
Review: The House on Mango Street is an outstanding book. It is like a mosaic painting, because it has a lot of chapters that put the story together. A young girl that grows up in an urban neighborhood describes her life growing up on the street of Mango. She is diversely different from everybody else on the street. There is no climax in the story, but I say if you study each chapter and combine them all together you will find the story's hidden excitement.

The themes in the story are interesting and make you think about your school and your world. Some themes are male domination, the American dream and security. Male domination runs throughout the story and is very important to the main character, who is a female and still growing up, because she is determined to grow up and become an independent woman. The American dream is mentioned many times in the story by the main character because she wants off of Mango Street and into a nicer neighborhood. At last, Security is well described in the story like when the main character is with her mom and she fells protected. I greatly recommend the book and it is greatly written. Renfro

Summary: The House on Mango Street
Review: I thought that the book "The House on mango Street" was a pretty good. I thought it was good because it was written in a way that the youth could relate to and understand. I thought that the way "Esperanza" wrote the book was very different and interesting, but yet it was still good and easy to read. I thought that the lives of the characters that lived on Mango Street were very interesting and yet their situations were very true. You could relate a little to what they were going through. You couldn't relate in the way that the things that happened to them happened to you, but you could relate in the way that you knew what they were feeling and thinking.

I thought that the book was an incite into a Latin American culture, and what it was like to live in a poorer section of the city. It also showed what it was like for people that were a minority and what they had to go through and live in to try to give their children a better life.

Summary: The House on Mango Street review
Review: The House On Mango Street was an interesting book that required some thought. The main character, Esperenza, grew up as the story progressed. The story centered around Mango Street, a minority part of a big city. There were mainly mexicanos on the street and Esperenza was no exception. Her family was poor and was forced to move to Mango Street and not a big house like they wanted. Esperenza pondered on how she wanted a nicer house on a nicer street somewhere else. She talked of how she wanted to get away from Mango Street.
Esperenza was different from most gurls on her block and around her.
