Rating: Summary: Complete Anne of Green Gables Review: I have read all the books in the Anne of Green Gable series and they are some of my favorite books ever. I am 21 years old and I still love to read about Anne and all her adventures, her ups and downs, her romance with Gilbert, her friends, and of course her family (Marilla, Davy, Dora, etc.) The stories are so imaginative and creative that you cannot put the book(s) down once you start reading. I highly recommend this series for anyone and especially young ladies!
Rating: Summary: Where can I meet this young woman? Review: Hi! I'm a 27-year old engineer. I originally saw the Anne of Green Gables movie about 5 years ago and LOVED it! Anyway, I spent all day yesterday (about 8 hours) re-watching Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea back-to-back and loved it again! Excellent! There's something about this Anne Shirley that makes me WANT to know what is going to happen next in her life.In the final scene of the video, we see Anne and Gilbert kiss each other for the very first time. And then the stupid show ends! Argh! As a result, I just HAD to go buy the books: Anne's House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, and Rilla of Ingleside to learn more about Anne's life. Like Gilbert says: "smart is better than pretty" :) Also I fell in love with the beautiful scenery in the movie, and now I'm actually thinking of taking a vacation to Prince Edward Island, Canada! I'm just curious what it's like to live in so isolated a place, and I want to view the beauty of nature that Anne loved so much... and why not? You only live once! :) So, go ahead and buy this book or rent the movie. You won't regret it. It *will* have an impact on your view of the world.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books for a young girl growing up. Review: My parents gave me this set when I was 8. I read all of it within a few months, which is a large load for a small girl. I really devoured them, reading late into the night with a flashlight. I don't know if kids do that anymore, but this would be something that parents would approve of. The stories are so vivid and easy to live through that I like to go back and reread them when I get writer's block. I have been writing stories for years, and the inspiration started when I was plowing my way through this set. Ms. Montgomery is an excellent writer and very capable of keeping the reader's interest through each trial and tribulation. The journey through Anne's life is followed by every person who reads this, and it is not all fun and games. This is a good set to introduce adult literature to young girls. It's just an incredible piece of work.
Rating: Summary: Anne (with an e) Of Green Gables * The Best Book * Review: I absolutly loved these books! There is so much 'scope for imagination' in them. It's the sweet story of a young girl orphan girl and all of her troubles. In each book she gets a little bit older going though teaching, collage, marraige proposals and so much more! These books are a sixth grade reading level, but personally I think they are good for anyone. The only trouble I had were some complicated words. Other than that it was great. One of the best things about this book is that you can relate to all of Anne's mistakes. So I recomend this book to children and teens of all ages so that you can have fun with Diana, Mrs. Lynde, Marilla, Matthew, Gilbert and Anne.
Rating: Summary: No girl should be without..... Review: This collection of stories is one that no girl should be without. L.M. Montgomery brought to life one of the most wonderful heroines of all time. Anne Shirley is a delightful, imaginative young girl who embodies everything that is feminine. Her life is full of humourous situations and beautiful dreams. These stories should be read and re-read.
Rating: Summary: Wholesome entertainment Review: Only if you enjoy the bitter taste of the violence and horror you have been spoon-fed as a child of this modern society will you not enjoy Anne of Green Gables. Its subtle imagery and poetic language could easily be boring to a multimedia obssessed individual, whose expectations are ruled by the minute by minute atrocities, vulgarities and indecencies of lower forms of literature, with which our market is saturated. Anne is colorful and imaginative and conducive to ponderances greater that what will be on Jerry Springer next or what trashy gore-filled paperback will next be released. To any who wish to feel true emotion and read a tale filled vivid description and compassion, please pick up Anne of Green Gables, it will become a favorite!
Rating: Summary: An EXCELLENT Classic filled with imagination! Review: The entire collection is just wonderful! L.M. Montgomery's characters really do come to life esp Anne. These books are not only for those who are young, but also for those who are 'young at heart'. The books have everything, from humorous situations to more grave and real life incidents (like death in the family or marriage). The book is imaginative and shows how a brighter look at life can be so uplifting and so fullfilling. The books makes the characters real and the reader feels apart of Anne's world even if it does take place in the early 1900's and in Canada. There's quite a bit of history and lessons to be learned in these books. The books show how much a young, orphaned woman can achieve in a world where women are judeged on their 'housewife abilities' and what love (friends and family) can do for them. It is an inspiring collection for anyone who has a 'scope for imagination' male or female!
Rating: Summary: My most favorite books! Review: I loved these books when I was 8, and I still love them! My grandma reads them, my mom reads them and everyone I know that has read them, liked them
Rating: Summary: Charming Review: I first loved the "Anne-girl" books at 12 or 13. Since then, whenever I am feeling glum, I re-read the detail-filled tales of an orphan girl from PEI with a vivid imagination and an enviable, wholly positive outlook on life. I recently realized that I skipped volumes #5 and 6 so it was a real treat to go back to read them (I could relate better at 25 and a newlywed to "Anne's House of Dreams.") It's hard not to see the beauty and romance in these books. Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote charming tales--I imagine it's the sort of thing that Anne wrote during her B.A. days at Redmond. I'm back online to buy the boxed set for my sister, age 10. I hope she learns to love Anne, Diana, Gilbert and the host of other kindred spirits Lucy Maud Montgomery created as much as I do.
Rating: Summary: Yawn Review: I was forced to read this against my own will. This book was boring, and not at all exciting. It was kind of predictable, and if you like thrillers, this isn't the book for you.If you want to fall asleep, read this one and you'll have no trouble falling asleep.
