Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: This book review is about the book Tears of a Tiger, written by Sharon M. Draper. Sharon Draper was the 1997 teacher of the year. In addition to Tears of a Tiger she has written several other books. She is an African American teacher in Ohio. Her book, Tears of a Tiger, has received many different awards. It was named one of the top one hundred books for young adults in addition with being named one of the best of the year by Children's Book Council. So read on to find out what this book is really about.
Andy Jackson's life gets turned upside down when his car crashed into a wall killing his best friend, Robbie Washington. Andy starts going through depression. Feeling guilty about what happened and struggling around the house with his parents, his grades, and most of all keeping his life together. Andy struggles with his relationships with Kiesha and with his friends. At one point in time he describes his life through the life of a tiger, "...they are put in concrete cages with bars of steel." He goes further saying, " ...he soon learns he will never get out of there."
Andy's friends also struggle. B.J, Gerald, Kiesha, and even Tyrone. In one of Gerald's English homework assignments he says tells how he would change the world, " If I could change the world I would get rid of peanut butter, Band-Aids, and five dollar bills." For Kiesha it is a little different. She struggles more with Andy than anyone else. As her diary reads, " I get tired of all this depressing stuff." But it still varies more for Tyrone who looks to Rhonda for help, where as B.J looks to the sky.
I think the main theme of this book is how kids need to express their feelings and how most don't. As Andy being the Tiger who is trapped and caged it is like his feeling are trapped and caged inside of him and he can't take it anymore. I think once everything caught up with Andy he realizes what he should have done in the first place but feels as if it is too late now. Find out how Andy deals with this and how his friends react.
Sharon Draper handles her characters greatly. She develops them in many different ways through newspaper articles and homework assignments; all things we have read or completed before makes this book come to life. Although her overall setting takes place in an everyday high school, a place you and I have been to many a times. All this and more helps you relate to the book as a person and also teaches you a lesson.
Her use of dialogue also helps her make her characters who they are. Since all of the people in her book are African American their dialogue is important and unique. They all speak in slang and she develops that in her book. This dialogue helps make the characters who they are and helps you to recognize how special they are to the book and how special the book is.
I think a person who enjoys books with a very powerful meaning would enjoy this book. It all depends on what type of reader you are... I think that if in some way you can relate to the book you will enjoy it immensely. I actually think teens would benefit the most from this book by learning a lesson and looking at life from a different perspective on how certain things affect certain people. It sends you a message of life and I think a lot of people would like that.
The only people I can think of that wouldn't like this book are people who don't like stories of pain and coping... people who are looking for a book with a happy ending should not read this book. People who like fantasies and books about things that don't really happen in life would not like this book. So read the book and find out for yourself if this book will forever change your life or always make you stop and think, I guarantee one of the two if not both!

Summary: Good job
Review: First, before I write my review I would like to commend you on the great job that you did. I also need to tell you that I am 13. The computer would not let me type any other way.
When the teacher first presented the book to us I thought that it would only be another boring book. Then she said that reading the book would count as a major part of our grade. So, I sat down and read the book. At the begining it was,"as always", boring. However, when I reached the last page I was wishing that there was more to read.
Secondly, I became very excited when I learned that the book was the begining of a trilogy. If I had to choose a favorite it would have to be Forged By Fire. Why! Because I can really relate to what happend to angel and Gerald. Finaly, darkness Before Dawn was kinda boring.

Tears of a Tiger
By: Sharon M. Draper

Have you ever felt like a part of yourself is revolved around your actions? Well the main character Andy did. In the book, "Tears of a Tiger" it explained how one person can become suicidal on a death of a best friend. When I read this book I felt like I was Andy, it felt so real that it made me wonder, could this also happen to me? Books that makes me think are remarkable.

In the book "Tears of a Tiger," Andy, a 17 year old high school student was involved in a drunk driving accident. In that accident Andy's best friend Robert was killed. Andy was a kid who keeps his feelings inside, so he is remorseful and sorrowful. He kept on thinking about the accident and how his best friend died. Because of his hidden thoughts, he became mentally ill with his conscious.

The author Sharon M. Draper showed how suicidal a person can be, from losing a friend. In the book, Andy became lonely and scared for life. On page 91-92 of the book, Andy says, "Right after the accident I wanted to be dead." He said this to his Psychologist because he kept saying to himself that he was the one who was responsible for Robert's death. He wanted to change places with Robert, than be in a state of misery.

The life lesson of this book is don't drink and drive because you don't really know what's going to happen next, even if you only had a little to drink. To society, it means that it's better to be safe than sorry.... This book really moved me because of the solution Andy used to end it all. His solution wasn't the smartest move in the world, but it worked for him.

Summary: WHAT I THINK OF TEARS OF THE TIGER!
Review: I believe this book was good because I can't stand books that start out slow and this one started out pretty fast, but throughout the book it went slower and slower. I lost my interest so much closer to the end of the book that I fell asleep in class. To be honest I thought that the book was going to be much better because of the good beginning it had, but the book just got worse.
The position that Andy (main character) was in is a position that a lot of kids I know could have or could be in. I think the plot of the story was good mainly because people can relate to it. The way Andy handled himself after the situation was a little extreme and I just think that I would handle the situation a little differently. Instead of talking to a shrink, I think I would mostly talk to my friends and I think I wouldn't express myself like Andy did.
After Andy's acciden't kids in his school were treating him [badly]. I don't think that's realistic because in my school, if somebody needs help or comfort, somebody's there for them! I believe this book was pretty good mainly because you could relate to it and because it was realistic!

Summary: no need for title
Review: ?Tears of a tiger? was an inspirational book. This teaches teens about my age how Wrong it is to drink and drive. Andy Jackson, the main character, had a very good life, had everything going for him. He had a great girl friend and a great spot on the basketball team and all the best friends he could handle. The tragedy of him crashing the car and killing his best friend was a very bad thing and all of them took this very hard but Andy took the wrong way out. Suicide is never the answer.
Andy was so depressed after the crash that every one of his friends was trying to cheer him up but it doesn?t help him too much. Andy?s Girlfriend was fed up with Andy always crying and being so depressed that she had to brake up with him but that wasn?t good for Andy.
Andy was a typical teen that was on the road to success and to a great relationship, but it all ended with one pull of the trigger. He became to depressed to continue with life but he didn?t even go to anyone for help so I really didn?t like this book.

Summary: THE ACCIDENT
Review: Tears Of A Tiger

"Tears of a Tiger" was a very informing book to read. It tells a story about a boy named Andy Jackson. It shows the struggle between Andy and facing his friends who all blame him for what happened that horrible night. He keeps getting down on himself for it.
Andy went to see a shrink about what happens but stops going to see the shrink. The shrink tells Andy that he is fine and that he does not need to see him anymore. After this Andy starts messing around and making fun of people in school and his grades start to decline. He gets more depressed after he finds about what is going on with this situation.
Andy loses his girlfriend and is becoming more doubtful and more doubtful every day. Andy thinks that nobody cares for him because of the accident.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: trite, formulatic, predictable
Review: Paint-by-numbers prose with some sophomoric stylistic elements: letters in different fonts, changes in point of view. The racism is especially foolishly written. Save your time and your money: this "novel" is an embarrassment.
