Rating: Summary: I loved this book!Barely any books make me cry. Review: I loved this book!It had so much emotion in it,I never cry when I read books but I guess there is a first time for everything.I'm glad I got to read this book this year.It was the best book I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best teen life-drama books ever! Review: If you are into realistic fiction, this is the book for you. It deals with real-life teen drama and the author did a great job of putting together the book.
Rating: Summary: great idea, mediocre delivery Review: I thought this book was put together in a really neat, original format. But I just couldn't get past the heavy-handed preaching and incredibly wooden dialogue. Kids don't talk like this and I felt it got in the way of the story.
Rating: Summary: Incredible portrait of a teenager who made one poor choice Review: I have had the pleasure of sharing this book as a "read aloud" with 8th grade students. It rivets them to the story as well as illustrates the choices that Rob makes and the impact on, not only himself, but everyone around him. The style of writing used in this book allows the author to visit the feelings and thoughts of all the major characters as well as the impersonal viewpoints (ie. newspapers...). I have been extremely impressed with this novel and the "teenage voice" that resounds from within it. 8th grade students are a pretty tough audience, especially when it comes to dealing with "cool" or peer issues, this novel surpasses all expectations. From the girls who sit with me and cry openly to the boys in the back, hiding behind bookbags, this novel touches everyone!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I thought that this book was wonderfully told. It shows you what happens when you drink and drive. Andy is dealing with a very sad and hard thing in life. He blames him self for a friends death. This is a wonderful book and suggest that you read it.
Rating: Summary: Finally a book my students loved. Review: I have been teaching 8th and 9th graders in Mississippi for over twenty-five years and have never found a single book that every student enjoyed - until now. We read the book aloud and different students took on the roles of Andy, B.J., Gerald, Keisha, Rhonda and the others. These students really got wrapped up in the emotions these characters felt and displayed. Apparently this book became the topic of conversation during school lunch because when the afternoon classes arrived, my students had heard from the morning classes and thus were requesting the parts of their favorite characters that day. I knew this book was a great success when I observed tears in my students' eyes when Monty's part was read. Next year these same students asked if we could read Sharon Draper's new novel "Forged by Fire." They made the comment to me that "this writer (Draper) must be a really cool teacher; she knows about our world."
Rating: Summary: Tears of a Tiger clearly shows the impact of death on life. Review: From the first page of this book, I found it difficult to put it down. The language that Draper uses grabs you and pulls you deeper and deeper in so that you are able to fully understand what is occurring in the mind of Andrew Jackson after the death of his friend, Robert Washington. After a tragic accident one evening on on the way home from a basketball game, the lives of four young boys were changed forever. Because they had won the game, Tyrone, Robert, Andy, and B.J. felt a need to "celebrate". The boys were under the influence of alcohol, and Andy, who was driving, ran into a wall, causing the death of his best friend. Throughout the book, students, teachers, and coaches voice their opinions on the situation. Most people are upset for the most part, and rightfully so, but Andy's depression leads to more serious alternatives. Draper's choice of expression through Tears of a Tiger has caused me to better understand what it is like to experience the death of a close friend. She uses the same central group of kids and shows each of their individual viewpoints at all different times. This allows you to become more comfortable with the characters, thus getting drawn further into the book. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to anyone...just be sure to have a box of tissues nearby.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I cried at the end because of Andy's little brothers remarks on Andy's death. I heard about this book when in my 8th grade english class my friend Hector did an oral report on it,and the expression in his voice left the whole class in tears. If you haven't read this book you've missed out on alot.
Rating: Summary: This is a Great Book! If you havn't read it, READ IT! Review: This is a book on Afican American kids that has lost a very close friend of their's. They are trying to deal with the death of their close friend. I think it was a great idea to write it in a diary, jounal, and homework form. I thought this way it got the point across really good. I really think you need to read this book it was great.
Rating: Summary: "Tears of a Tiger" by Sharon M. Draper Review: I thought this book was a good book. I really enjoyed it. I liked everything about it. It was sad when Robert died, and when Andy died too. I was really touched by Andy's little brother's words at the end of the story. I cried when I was finished. I think Sharon did a great job.
