Rating: Summary: Tears of a Tiger Review: Tears of a Tiger is about four boys that are driving under the influence of alcohol after they left a basketball game. The main character Andy Jackson was the one drunk behind the wheel. In one horrifying night Andy's life would change forever. My favorite character is Andy, because of his smart mouth and his wise cracking attitude towards almost everthing. I like how realistic this book was written. It really relates to what happens in real life. I would recommend this book to all readers. I give it two thumbs up Brandon Baxley Grade 8 Wacoochee Junior High Salem, AL Questions or comments e-mail me at GTO187@aol.com
Rating: Summary: Tears of a Tiger Review: Tears of a Tiger is about a boy who goes around drinking and driving with his friends after winning a basketball game. The consequences of his actions, will effect his life and everyone else around him. My favorite thing about the book, was the way the book was set up, and the way the kids talked. For example, "Hey Rob! Live game, man. You be flyin' with the hoops, man! Swoosh!" I recommend this book to teens, who are about to drive or drive now. This book hits reality like a wall, that came out of nowhere. One lesson you'll learn from this book, don't drive drunk!
Rating: Summary: Tears of a Tiger Review: Tears of a Tiger is about a boy named Andy who was involved in a fatal accident that killed his best friend, Robbie. He can't seem to get over it, and he falls into a deep depression. My favorite character was Keisha, Andy's girlfriend, because of the tolerance she had for Andy. He whined and complained all of the time, and she would always comfort him. I commend her for that. I really enjoyed the book because parts of it had to do with basketball, and that is my favorite sport. The book seemed to make the games come alive! Tears of a tiger would be a great book for grades 6-12 because of the reality of trying to face your problems. Alisha Tolbert Grade 8 Wacoochee Junior High
Rating: Summary: Tears of a Tiger Review: This book is very good.It is also very sad because two people die and they are best friends and their other friends don't know what to do with all of this happening.Keshia probably thinks Andy killed himself because of her and him breaking up and Rob's death. The break was not her fault thought so she can't put herself threw all that.Like Andy did about Rob's death he thought it was his fault because he was driving drunk.Well I really encourage you to read this book, but be prepared to cry.
Rating: Summary: Great Story! A must read! (Ready to write a screenplay!) Review: I want to start by saying that I seriously feel that this would make a great feature film! Seriously, I'm ready to write a screenplay for it right this minute! You may have seen my review from "Forged by Fire" and I have to say that both books were great! The end of the book left a lump in my throat but, if you come across this review be4 you read the book, don't read the others! They give away a place in the book which really suprized me and will suprize you if you don't hear about it already. After you read this one, I seriously recommend reading the companion "Forged By Fire". It will probably answer the question of why Gerald wrote such a hateful letter to Andy. I don't recommend reading "Forged By Fire" be4 reading "Tears of a Tiger" because from reading it myself I was looking into hearing more about Gerald but did'nt and got a little dissapointed in the beginning of the book. In all, both books are a must read and afterwards we'll all see that "..It's ok to put dragons in a jungle and tears on a tiger."
Rating: Summary: Great teaching aid for motivating reluctant readers!! Review: I am a teacher who is constantly looking for something "fresh" to give my students. My students are typically low, reluctant readers. This is one of the only books that several of them said "I actually read and enjoyed this book. Give us more of this!"
Rating: Summary: Intense and Emotional Review: This was an terrific book. It was recommended to me by my English teacher. At first I was skeptical. Since it was so short, I thought it would be too easy. It was a quick read, but definetly a worth-while one. After reading too many books in "normal" formats, I was delited to learn this one was told in letters, notes, phone conversations, and articles. It just made the book more fun to read. I finished reading this book in school, and actually began crying. Some of Andy's comments did seem to be aimed at black teen males, I (as a white female) did not feel it detracted from the book. I believe it is a must read for anyone looking for a short but intense novel.
Rating: Summary: A dramatic story of a boy who takes life the wrong way. Review: Tears of a Tiger Book Review Happy-go-lucky teenage boys, play basketball and party; figure out how fast all that can change. Andrew(also known as Andy) Jackson, a basketball player who has his license, and his girlfriend Keisha, have been going steady for a few months. Andy's friends Robbie Washington, B.J. Carson, and Tyrone Mills, all go to the Hazelwood High School together, and have been friends for years. Robbie, Tyrone and Andy are party animals, while B.J. is more down-to-earth and passive. One night the boys decide to get a six-pack and have one of their usual "late-night rituals" together. Andy is the driver and has been drinking, and Robbie has his feet up, dangerously on the dashboard. Carelessly drunk and still driving, the boys head out on the highway, where later they hit a wall and helplessly watch Robbie burn to death in the car. There was nothing the boys could do to get him out of the car, but Andy still blames himself, because he was driving. Andy goes deeper, and deeper into depression, and loses his girlfriend Keisha through his anger and crying. He even sees a counselor, and his friends think he is fine. All that smile and charm is hidden behind a crying mask, and his friends can't reach out to help him. But even a counselor couldn't help his friends through the tragedy they were going to face....in the future. Sharon M. Draper has put together many books like this one, to help young adults through problems that they will face, in their teen years. The book, she hopes, will teach young readers to deal with their problems and to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and suicide. This book is a mix of drama, action, and slight horror. The book was worth the reading, and if you like books that make you cry, you can guarantee this one! It was put together in a conversational form, which was difficult to follow in the beginning, but you will catch up soon, and it just gets better and better. If you ever come across this book, be sure to read it; it may change your life.
Rating: Summary: It was GREAT!!!! Review: When a allstar Basketball player Robert Washington was killed it felt like a big Depression. Andy felt like this was all his fault. "Well Andy that's not true!!!." I thought this book was great. I think everyone should read this. Sure it's sad but the author was great at writing it, and publishing it!
Rating: Summary: Car accident that caused a person's life to turn upside down Review: Tears of the Tiger is the book I read. The character of the book is Sharon M. Draper. A basketball player that caused an accident killing the captain of the basketball team. He suffers about the incident and needed a therapy. The book is very much reality which makes you feel it's really happening. It keeps you at the edge of your sit, never giving you a dull moment to rest your interests. It had interesting details and you feel drawn into the book. The characters in this story are very well described. It lets you feel what the character is actually feeling. The pace of the story is fast and enraging. It is mix of action and style. The resolution fit in exactly with the story, it was fully explained and very original. In my opinion, the book was really good. When I read the book, it really described the character's reaction and how the character felt that I was feeling like I was the character. I knew someone who had a similar problem and it wasn't easy to just forget something like that to happened. Andy is the main character, he is about 6'2, black, star basketball player, brown eyes, and a funny sense of humor. At the end of the book, I was really surprise that Andy commited suicide. In the middle of the story, I didn't even think that he would commit suicide because he never talked about it. Andy went through with so much and then end his life like that. One of his close friends name Tyrone, Tyrone is about 6'2, black male, very funny with sense of humor, basically likes to play jokes on everyone. Tyrone felt he was sold out by Andy because he never thought Andy would commit suicide. Tyrone was mad for that and at the same time, he felt sad for losing a friend. If a person went through something like that, I think he should of hang on and be strong. As over all, I think the book was quite alright, it didn't bore me, It made me read more and more. It made me really think what would happen next. I recommend this book for those people that enjoys a thrilling and exciting novel.
