Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: Tears of Tiger is a book written by Sharon M. Draper. She wrote this book especially for young adults. This book is very emotional and surprising. Andy, a depressed boy, has gotten into a wreck and killed his best friend. It was very devestating. Andy was the one who kept blaming himself for something that was an accident. My favorite part of this book was when everyone tried to help him. They were really good friends and cared for him. Monty is Andy's little brother. He is my favorite character because he asked so many questions that make you think. My brother would never ask me questions like that. This book taught me alot about some of the things that may happen to any of us. But some of us who think they don't need to talk to a professional need to. So we can get the guilt away and keep it from taking over us like it did to Andy.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger, my review
Review: Tears a Tiger is about a highschool guy named Andy... Andy Jackson. He had a beautiful girlfriend, lots of friends, and a potential basketball career. Until one night after a basketball game. Andy and his friends opened up a six pack, then talked and fooled around awhile. On the way home, Andy starts speeding, loses control of the car, and crashes into a roadside wall. Andy, B.J., and Tyrone all escape safely with only minor cuts and bruises. But, sadly, their friend Robbie burns to death while trapped inside the car. Everyone recovers, but Andy can't seem to heal the awful memory of helplessly watching his friend burn to death. He blamed himself for everything. He became depressed. He friends tried to help him, and his father made sessions for him with a psychologist. But, nothing seemed to help. He just got worse. He hid his feelings and pretended nothing was wrong. This is a book that will have you laughing and crying. I would recommend it to any one of an age who loves a dramatic novel. Amber Stone, Grade 8 Wacoochee Jr. High School, Salem, Al

Review: The best way I can describe this book is with one word and that is interesting. What I liked about it is the way it caught my attention when they crashed. That part really got me more into the book. Their was also a part in the book that I didn,t like:when Andy left his brother. He killed himself, and when his parents split up. Tthere where two main characters I liked and those two people where Andy and Rob. The reason I like them is because they where best of friends and A ndy really loved Rob like a brother. I think it was hard for Andy to put it in his mind that Rob was gone and it was his fault ROB was dead. There where a few things i learned:drinking and driving really does kill; and if you do something harmful to yourself, or even kill yourself, other people will be hurt.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: Tears of a Tiger was better than I thought it was going to be. What really got to me was when the characters started talking slang and stuff.Tears of Tiger was mostly about Andy, showing what he was going through during his senior year. For instance; Robbie died, broke up with Keisha, and etc.It seems as if you are in the book waiting to see what is going to happen next. I recommend this book for anyone that's not afraid to let a few tears fall.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: Tears of a Tiger is a very incredible but sad book. It's interesting! I liked it because of the poems, letters, and dissapointments that were encountered in the book. I liked the part when B.J. had to write a poem. He wrote about a little lady he wanted to have; it was very funny. I thought Andy Jackson was the important character because he was driving the car and wrecked it killing Robbie Washington. I learned some things from this book: you should not drink and drive, don't hold emotions in from other people, and don't go off and do something you'll regret.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: "Tears of a Tiger" is about a young man named Andrew Jackson and his terrifying meeting with death. His drama started when he drank some beers, got drunk, and decided to drive with his friends: Robbie Washington, Tyrone Mills, and B.J. Carson. He had an accident, and he B.J. and Tyrone had to watch thier friend Robbie burn to death helplessly. This hurt Andy the most and made him depressed with crying spells and dreams for months. Andy held all of this in and told everyone he was okay until he couldn't hold it anymore.

Summary: Tears of a Tiger
Review: Tears of a Tiger is about a bunch of high school kids; their names are Robbie Washington, Andy Jackson, BJ Carson, Tyrone Mills, and Keisha Montgomery. They were the main characters. The word that best describes this book is sad. I liked the beginning and middle because these parts are very interesting. The book described Andy's problems. Also this book might teach people a lesson. The only part I didn't like was how it ended because I don't think Andy should have died. I think Andy was the most interesting character because the author always talked about his problems, and he was almost always in every event. There are three things I have learned from reading this story: don't drink and drive, friends are very improtant in your life, and you should always have a relationship. Also if you get depressed, you need to take care of the problem right away. I like to read some other books that refer to Tears of a Tiger.

Summary: even realism can too far
Review: As a junior high school English teacher, I am always on the lookout for a good YA novel to teach to my students or to recommend that they read individually. When I heard of Tears of a Tiger, I had high hopes that it would be everything that I look for in a YA novel. First of all, I liked the fact that the main characters were African-American. I teach a large portion of African-American students, and I have a lot of trouble finding a YA novel in which African-Americans are the central characters (are you listening, YA authors?). Second, I absolutely loved the differing points of view style that the book is written in. The way that the characters are developed through conversation, letters, poems, essays, and so on is one of the best that I have read. This is a great teaching tool alone, not to mention a super way of telling the story. Third, the event that is the catalyst for the plot, the underage drinking and driving, is realistic and teaches a great lesson to teenagers. Given my glowing praise, you may wonder, why not five stars? The simple fact is that Andy's suicide destroyed the book for me. The whole plot of the book seemed to be leading to Andy's coming to grips with the death of his friend. I was thinking: what a great way to show kids that there are other alternatives than killing oneself to work through problems. Then, the suicide note and he is dead. This is not a good message to send to youth. While a mature young adult can read and understand this book the way that the author probably meant it to be read, this is not a YA book for the masses. In good conscience, I cannot teach a book to kids who have enough disturbing messages thrown at them from all sources on a daily basis as it is. They do not need to read a book in which the main character, a young man much like many of them, cannot cope with his mistakes and kills himself. Would I still teach Antigone and Macbeth, you may wonder? Yes, I would; the characters who commit suicide in many classic works of literature bear little or no resemblance to the teenagers of today. Andy, on the other hand, is too much like many of the teenagers that I run into on a daily basis. Our children need to be taught the real truth--that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
