Rating: Summary: This is the best review book of any kind I ever used!! Review: This book is incredible. I studied with it all spring and took the SAT I on May 1. My scores were 290 points higher than on my PSAT!!!The best part of the book are all the strategies for solving the math problems. Using them, I was able to answer at least 10 or 15 questions that I would have otherwise had to leave out.The practice tests are really good. They are just like the real thing, so doing them is really good practice. If anything, they are slightly harder, so the real one I took in May seemed easier.I would recommend this book to anyone high school student who will be taking the SAT I. My younger brother is in 9th grade and he just started to read it.
Rating: Summary: This book was the most helpful review book I ever used. Review: My mother bought me several SAT review books this year. By far this was the most useful. I just got my SAT scores back and I increased 230 points from my PSAT---much more than any of my friends who took expensive classes.I was particularly impressed with the math section and with the TACTICS for getting the right answer to questions I didn't know how to do.I would recommend this book very highly to any student preparing for the SAT I.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Study Aid! Review: Barron's "How To Prepare for the SAT I" is a comprehensive review of all the knowledge I need to know in high school. Its unique collection of verbal and math questions and detailed explanatory answers give me full understanding of particular weaknesses. In addition, the flash cards in back of the book are pretty useful for me during spare time, when I can memorize words easily and quickly. Don't miss this exciting book!
Rating: Summary: Error found on math question! Review: The book is overall very good. It's clear, and is in a language that students can understand. Explanations are easily read, without 'overdumbing'. I love the detailed review of grammar, and vocabulary. The only problem that I found was in a math question in the diagnostic test in the beginning of the book. On #21 of section 4, the answer given on page 65 is 1/16. When explained, the answer given is 1/16-1/32=1/16 This is the the same as saying 2-1=1. Well, I just wanted to point that out. Otherwise, the book is very helpful, and it's something that I recommend every student buy,
Rating: Summary: Helpful, but long. Review: This book helped me with my SAT scores, but it is very long. Most people do not buy one of these books until they are coming close to actually taking the test. To get the most out of this book, one would have to start using it at least six months before he takes the test. Although what it teaches someone is good, its length and focus on long range strategies are a drag.
Rating: Summary: Good value-for-money Review: The word lists and the Sample tests are what make this book worth its money. The advice given while 'guessing' in the verbal section is good too. I particularly like their style of attacking the reading comprehensions.
Rating: Summary: Big, but helpful Review: This is a pretty good book if you are looking for long-term study for the SAT. The one negative I had about this book is that there are over 1500 vocabulary words which is impossible to study. There are plenty of practice tests, over 10, and vocabulary flash cards. In all, this is a good deal for about $15. I would definitely recommend this book over the ARCO title, though.
Rating: Summary: This is your great grandfather's SAT book Review: This book is soooo old and stuffy. No cool software, narcoleptic subject presentation.zzzzz. Wake me up when the test is over and hope I scored fine without any help from this book.
Rating: Summary: BARRON'S SAT review is one of the best SAT books I have seen Review: The test in this book are very similar to the actual tests. I have used both the 19th and 20th editions of this book. I have found both of them to be very helpful. The only problem I found is that this book focuses a lot on long range strategies like suggested reading materials and a huge vocabulary list. But the practice exercises in this book are very helpful and the test is very realistic. I suggest this book as a must for people who plan to take the SAT I.
Rating: Summary: Vocab. Cards Review: I would just like to say that while the book is useful and good and all that, the flash cards at the back are worthless because THEY HAVE THE WRONG DEFINITIONS ON THEM!
