Rating: Summary: A great book about life and differences Review: I thought that this book was wonderful...in many ways, it is a lot about philosophy. It was interesting to find out that in the time that the story is set, there isn't any color, any feelings, any hurt. Everything around the whole Community is controlled, even the weather. Everything is perfect. At least, it seems that way. When Jonas has to recieve all the memories, he learns that life in the community is not what it seems. There's cruelty behind many things that the community does, and they do it without even realizing that it's cruel. I thought that this was a great book, and recommend it to anyone who is interested in philosophy and the way the world is, or wonders what the world would be like if everything was the same, or perfect.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful, sad work of literary art Review: I thought that this book was wonderful; it is one of my favorites. I thought that the detail Lois Lowry used was excellent in showing Jonas' thoughts and feelings as he slowly learns the truth about his world and his life. The end leaves you hanging somewhat, yet at the same time feeling fulfilled. It made me feel sadness, happiness, pity, and anger all at once. It also has an ominous undercurrent, making you wonder "What if? What if this will happen?" It's exciting, funny, sad, scary...in other words, it's everything that such a story should be!
Rating: Summary: The Giver was different and imaginitive!!! Review: I thought the book was different and kind of weird. Because, they lived in a world where everything was the same and you always expected things to happen. I do not like the idea of not seeing color. It is not fair. That would be very boring.I thought the way they released the people was horrible!!! I would recommend to people who like fiction and have a good imagination!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It's a good book! Ü Review: I thought the book was good but it got very confusing. Imagining a whole different world is hard to do. If you like reading books in the future I'm sure you would like this book. The author did a good job writing this book but didn't paint a picture in my head so the book was hard to follow.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful eerie book! Review: I thought the book was great. I didn't catch on to what was happening until the middle because you assume that everything is in color. You would think of that world as one like your own with color, trees and hills. It's very strange and sad when you think about it, when people are "let go" they really die. It's a very unfamilair world where no families exist only units. I thought Lowis Lowery was very creative and the book was wonderful. I still think it was one of those books you can't put down and have to finish. One of the best books I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: CONFUSING YET GOOD Review: I thought the book was pretty good it was unique and veryinteresting. The plot was good to because it was perfect for thestory. The characters were so interesting and so not like the people of today. The whole story to me was the making you feel thankful for what you have and if things were always perfect it doesn't mean it would be a good thing.Over all it was an amazingly interestibg book.
Rating: Summary: I thought the book was great. Review: I thought the book was so good. All of my friends loved it also. It was truly original. I thought that Jonas was amazing. I liked it when The Giver gave Jonas all the memories of the past. I thought Jonas was courageous because he could take in all of those memories. Even the horrible painful ones.
Rating: Summary: IT WAS HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE 1ST TIME Review: I THOUGHT THE BOOK WAS UNUSUAL. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK 2 OR 3 TIMES TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE THING. I THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY, BUT I DON'T RECOMMEND IT. THE BOOKIS ABOUT A BOY WHO HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO BE A LEADER AND TO HAVE ALL KNOWLEDGE AND HE RUNS AWAY BECAUSE HE FINDS OUT A SECRET.
Rating: Summary: To The Author Review: I thought the book was very interesting. I like what you did at describing the "community." The way you didn't make it sound plain and ordinary. I also liked the way you used very discriptive words with this book, because it makes it more interesting. I thought the ending was a little bit overwhelming, because of the hang off. You just left us there wondering what would and what could have happened to Jonas. "The Giver" needs a sequel though. It's hard to read a book not knowing the end and than you don't find out what happened. Overall I thought the book was really great, just a few adjustments and it could have been better.-AMM,7.3
Rating: Summary: Book Review on the Giver Review: I thought the Giver is a really good book because it was exciting to read. This book is about a boy who lives in a perfect world. He gets the most important job in his community which is Reciever of Memory. It is his job to keep these memories until a new Reciever is chosen. I would recommend this book to read because it is very exiciting.
