Summary: This was really good
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The plot, I thought, was very imaginative. Lois Lowry added a lot of detail, and did a very good job describing the memories. I thought she did a very good job at showing how bad this type of soceity really was. The idea that no one was truly an individual is scary. I would have given this book 5 stars, but I didn't really like the end that much. It ended very abruptly, and left a lot to the imagination.

Summary: Really good book!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. This book has many puzzles that you solve as you read it. It's a little scary at times, so I wouldn't recommend it for small children. One of my favorite "puzzles" was finding out was "release" was. I would read it, if I were you. It was a real eye opener. It shows you important things in weirld ways. I personally would have ended it differently, but that was Lois Lowry's choice.

Summary: The Giver
Review: I really enjoyed this novel. I love how Lowery creates a world where it seems as though everyone is satisfied, but it is obvious that there could be so much more. It is beautfully written and fun and easy to read, but, at the same time, contains very deep and complicated themes. Its a great book for a kid to read and a great book for an adult on another level.

Summary: A creative story, stressing the importance of individualism.
Review: I really enjoyed this story because the author, Lois Lowry stepped outside of "life as we know it" and brought new, never-before thought of concepts to the reader's mind. After reading, The Giver, I am very happy to live in such a wonderful world filled with colors, emotions and feeling. It was terrible to think of the world without these precious neccessities which we usually take for granted. I am glad it had a happy ending, where society was restored to how it should always have been!

Summary: Very Interesting, Keeps you reading!
Review: I really enjoyed this unique book. Jonas kept my attention throughout the book. I felt as though I was receiving the memories with him. Hooray for Jonas and his courage! A must read for junior readers.

Summary: Deep
Review: I really felt this book is a must read for people of all ages! The main reason is because I believe that within Lowis Lowry's THE GIVER, everyone can find something to relate to. For example, Jonas, the main character, is very worried about his future life, like many people are. From another view, Jonas also seems to feel left out, a feeling many younger people and adolescents can relate to. Another aspect of this book that I feel should strike a chord with anyone and everyone who reads it, is how wonderful it is to have variety. Just as had happened in the book, everyone ended up with the same birthday, not being able to see colors... dressing alike etc. Thank God we don't have to worry about that! I feel that people, when reading this book should focus on the feelings that Jonas experiences when being the Giver's tutoree... so to speak. He goes from confusion to understanding- from sadnees to overwhelming joy. The spectrum of emotion that Lowry reflects is amazing!

Summary: Great book dealing with a controlled society
Review: I really found this book really interesting and eye-opening. The topic on controlled societies has been around for a long time. The idea of 'releasing' people who are not qualified for living in the community was also used by Plato. He also emphasized giving people a specific job they are responsible for in the community, just like the community in The Giver had done. In this book, there is a society that is totally controlled. What the people do, who they marry, their schedules for the day, etc. are all decided by the Elders. The members socialize with people in their groups; the children with their appropriate age groups, and the adults with whom they work among. The people know no real pain, pleasure, and memories. They do what they are told and expected of them, and no questions are asked; for them, life is perfect. In this community, there is a boy, Jonas, who is anticipating the Ceremony of the Twelves, where the eleven year old children are assigned the job they will be responsible for the rest of their lives. He is worried that he will be disappointed with the assignment he receives, but is semi-reassured by his parents who tell him the Elders know each child and what is best for each one. The ceremony finally takes place, and Jonas is skipped over. However, Jonas is called last in his group. He has not been assigned, he has been selected as the Receiver of Memory, the most important job in the community. This job will require pain, something the people in the community do not often experience, and when they do, only for a short amount of time. Up until the part where Jonas starts to receive his training, the extent of the controlled society is not fully explained. What Jonas learns and experiences from the current Receiver of Memory is unexplainable and not to be talked with to the other members of the community. They would not be able to handle it. The experience of seeing how someone is released causes Jonas to begin to think the controlled society is not right, and he can not just sit back and do nothing about it.

Summary: I LIKE this futuristic book
Review: I really like the novel "The Giver" written by Lois Lowry. The Giver is really a children book, but I think it is also for ancient people. It is a good novel, because in this book, you can see a utopian community without death and pain and other negative properties. The writer uses a great fascinated style to describe the community. In this Community is everything the same, no differences. I think, on the one hand, that is good, because the people live peaceful, but on the other hand, the people cannot see colour and other expressions. But it is interesting to read this book, to see which effects cause when everything is not the same.
This book teaches us to be grateful for the gift of choice, the gift of love, and even the gift of pain. I recommend this book for anyone.

Summary: A Great Futuristic Book
Review: I really like this book because it makes you think about what life could be like if everything was the same. The story is about Jonas, a boy who lives in a community where there is a condition called "Sameness". Sameness is when all people are the same. No color is seen. There is a rule for everything. When Jonas is selected as Receiver of Memory, an honored postion of the only person who has memories of what life used to be like, he learns of all the things that used to occur and do not anymore. He is unhappy, and wants to get out of Sameness and into "Elsewhere". Lois Lowry has such a great writing style and I love to read her books. She is so descriptive and she makes you feel like you're there, living the story with Jonas. I recommend this book to anyone.
