Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking, You will remember it FOREVER! Review: I read this book in the 6th grade for class, I enjoyed it very much. But this year in the 10th grade I felt a need to read it again, and I suppose because I am older, the book has gained an even more cherished place within me for it. This book centers around a society that is totally planned out. Where you receive a position (job) to train for at the age of 12. And you must dress a certain way or you will immediatly get corrected. And an animal such as a hippo is nothing but an imaginary thing. Well that is exactly what a young boy named Jonas lived in for his whole life, and he to thought that his world was the way it had always been. Until he turned 12 and he started training for his position in society, which had been chosen for him. I wouldn't suggest that you find out much more about the plot, because it is 10 times more interesting to read about this book without little hints about what is going to happen. I have read comments about the ending being stupid, but I think that it represents that there is always hope (you will see what I mean when you read it)and that we can't live our lifes in dread of tomarrow, but in anticipation of the new things to learn about and achieve. These are the thought provoking things that this book has made me think about. You will truly experience this adventure along with Jonas, and it will make an impact on the way you look at the world that surrounds us. Every person I know that has read this book, loves it for their own personal reason, so find your reason to love this book, and read it today!
Rating: Summary: Eveyone should read this book! Review: I read this book in the fourth grade. It's the first book I've ever read that's made me cry.I live in Columbia County, Florida. A county not far from here has banned this book in their school system. I think this is a wonderful book and I also think every teenager should read it.
Rating: Summary: Great book, ambigous ending Review: I read this book last year (7th grade) and it gives an interesting look into the concept of Utopia. Before reading this book, I had already read 1984 and Animal Farm (both of which were better, IMO) and this gave a different perspective than them. You probably already know the plot, so I'll save you the time, but I was slightly disappointed with the ending. I understand that it is supposed to be left up to you to decide what happens, but still, it was dissatisfying, and made me not appreciate this otherwise superb book as much.
Rating: Summary: The best book....ever!! Review: I read this book this year for a book report and I absolutly fell in love with it. My friends had told me that it was a really good book so I decided to check it out. And I am really glad that I did. It is my favorite book. I love everything about it. The plot, setting, and charactors are all very interesting. The story keeps you interested, I couldnt put it down. I must have read it in two sittings. The best thing about the book is that it really makes you think. Anyone who hasn't read it, go out and read it. It's a good book for people of all ages and trust me you won't mind reading it. I am a very picky person when it comes to books and I get bored easily by some stories. I was a little skeptical at first but after reading the first chapter I was interested. It's a little confusing in the beginning but stick with it because it all comes together. Check it out!
Rating: Summary: I LIKE THIS BOOK- Josh Schyler Review: I read this book to a boy named Hckmoud that cant read and has no clothes no food no shelter or anything he enjoyed the book and so did I.
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking -- a great conversation starter Review: I read this book when a controversy arose about it at my son's school. I wanted to know what all the uproar was about. I feel the story is extremely thought provoking. Wouldn't it be great to live in such a "safe" world? Or would it? My son and daughter both said they'd rather live with some troubles as long as they had freedom. My belief is that Jonas found Utopia...and it was our world...imperfect as it may be.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK Review: I read this book when I was 12 years old and it is still one of my all-time favorite books. I would recomend this book to any one, young or old.
Rating: Summary: A Great book for ages 9 and up!!! Review: I read this book when I was in 4th grade and then I let both my parents read it. They loved it and I loved it. A great read for a person who wants to read.
Rating: Summary: A book for the mind. Review: I read this book when I was in 7th grade and loved it! It's only my 2nd favorite, after "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton. Out of my whole class I was the only one who enjoyed it, the only one who understood it, and the only one who carried the meaning with them. It is most definitely a book for the mind. I read it over my Christmas holiday and realized I could hardly put it down, except to eat and sleep! I won't, I can't, tell you any more about the plot because it is something each individual needs to comprehend on their own or else it will mean nothing. I also found that there were parts I reread because it was just so incredible! My favorite aspect of "The Giver" is that the whole plot is set up with subtle little "ties" that will strike you wild when you connect them! I really recommend "The Giver".
Rating: Summary: Never gets old Review: I read this book when I was in elementary school. I am now a sophmore in college, and have brought my copy with me- my roommate has her's too. The Giver is one of the first books that really made me think about the world and wonder about the fairness of it all. This isn't just a children's book. Anyone can find pleasure in it because it never gets old!
