Summary: My Favorite Book Ever!!!!!
Review: I read this book for the first time in fourth grade and now as a freshman in high school, I still read this book at least once every year. No book I've ever read has effected me so deeply. It has shaped the way I see things in our society and caused me to care about thnigs I otherwise might not have. I think it should be required reading for everyone. If you can't appreciate this book, you're a bonehead.

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: I read this book in 7th grade, and I am so glad it was assigned! Out of all the books I've ever had to read, this takes the cake! The plot of the story is extremely unique, as are the characters and events. Jonas lives in a controlled world where the people are virtually the same. These people know nothing of uniqueness and individuality. When Jonas turns 12, he is given the job of "Receiver of Memory" and must take on the memories of a man called The Giver. From then on, the pain and confusion Jonas must handle affect him and he has to make a decision. Argh, you really can't understand how wonderful the plot is until you read the book yourself. I promise, once you start reading, you will NOT be able to put this down until you know what is going on. Not only is the storyline itself genius, but the details are extremely interesting and will keep you turning those pages. The Giver carries several themes and messages that you'll be able to apply to your life right away. I won't reveal them now, but the book also has great symbolism which you may or may not pick up on depending on certain aspects. In any case, do not pass up this fascinating read. Even my 45-year-old mother thought it was incredible :-) Definitely worth your time and money!

Review: I read this book in 8 grade, now I am going to go to the high-school! Anyway, I think that everyone should read this book, it actually makes you think. If you like reading books that suprise you, then you won't be dissapointed in this one. It's very suprising! The only thing that I didn't like was about this book was the ending, it's very confusing and sad (I think). All in all, this is a GREAT book, and you should read it! Summary: An Amazing Masterpiece
Review: I read this book in 8th grade, 2 years ago. I can only say one thing about this book: amazing. The style in which Lowery writes is perfect, wonderful, spell-binding. While this book has come under much criticism for being too "sexed", it definetly isn't. I recommend this book for anyone in 6th grade or above. It contains a strong message that only a talented writer could convey; and that Lois Lowery is.

Summary: read 1984
Review: I read this book in my 8th grade English class and I was thoroughly disgusted. I had recently read 1984 the summer before and found the elements of Lowry's community more than curiously similar to Orwell's. It seems to me as if Lowry watered down Oceania into a book suitable for children, forfeiting the intensity and powerful writing in the process. If you're going to teach children about what it is to live devoid of joy or pain, use a good book for once. I did like "Number the Stars" by Lowry and was dissappointed that she would stoop to this level of imitation.

Review: I read this book in one day, but it wasn't really that great, in my opinion. It seemed just like all the other utopian/distopian books I've read. However, if you like this kind of literature, then go for it.

Summary: A School Assignment That I Actually Enjoyed
Review: I read this book in sixth grade. We had three books to choose from and I chose The Giver because my teacher said it was the hardest to read and because I had heard of it before. I always try to stay on pace when reading a book since we take quizes every once in awhile. But after the first few chapters I gave up. I went ahead and finished the book. It is so shocking and surprising. I now own the book and have read it many times, and my mom has read it too. I am now in the proccess of getting my dad to read it. I think this book is worthy of being made into a movie like The Outsiders, Shiloh, and other children's books.
