Rating: Summary: The Giver is Simply the coolest book on the planet! Review: I read The Giver when I was in 5th grade and I loved it!! If mom and dad are reading this...I really want it for Christmas!!
Rating: Summary: A really good book Review: I read The Giver, and I think it's really good. It has a totally unique plot, and a lot of conflict...It's one of those books that really makes you think about your life, and how it would be if you didn't have any emotions at all. I didn't really like the part where they describe how Jonah's dad killed the baby, but other than that, I think this book is A REALLY GOOD BOOK! YOU SHOULD READ IT!
Rating: Summary: This Book Leaves a Lasting Impression Review: I read this book a few years ago and still find it thought provoking and interesting. I remember how Jonas gradually discovered that he was different from the normal person he was expected to be and then eventually broke awawy from the mold that was being made for him. This book gives the reader courage and forces them to take another look at the world of today.
Rating: Summary: My All Time Favorite Book Review: I read this book a few years ago when I was in 4th grade. I am in 7th grade now. Some people think that this book would scare little kids. It never scared me. I just loved it. I do think that it is a super good book for more mature kids. I have read this book so many times that I cant count any more. I just want to say that the Giver is the best fiction book that I have ever read. I recommend it to all mature readers. This book has so much depth in it. The first time I read it I cried, it was so good. I never cry while reading (except for when I read Gone With The Wind at the end). After I read it, i later rocommended it to my friends. They all read it and said that it was the best book that they had ever read. I just want to say that it is amazing and wonderful and touching and makes you feel wonderful. Luv YA!
Rating: Summary: Some interesting stuff... Review: I read this book a few years ago, and have just recently read Fahrenheit 451, a very similar book. Both are about colorless, utopian societies, and in both the hero chooses to go against this society. Thinking is no longer present in either of these simplified worlds - who needs choice, and the problems that go with it? I enjoyed both books thoroughly, and would recommend this book to people of all ages.I would also like to note that the sales rank of this book is 451.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I read this book a few years ago, and I still remember the impact it had on me. "The Giver" is wonderfully written, and has a good message to it. It's one of those books that you finish, and the begin to look for other books writen by the author. I have read a couple of Lois Lowry, and I think that she is a great author; I especially love her descriptive technique of writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who interested in a good read. Allthough almost any age could enjoy it, I think that maybe 6th grade and up would appretiate it more. This is a great book, and I encourage everyone to read it!
Rating: Summary: amazing! Review: I read this book a year ago and found it amazing. It is about a 12 year old boy named Jonas. He lives in a community where everything is decided by the goverment. There is no free will or choice or color. When Jonas turns 12, he is given the job to be a reciever of memories. A way to think of him is an encyclopedia of memories, feelings, and pain(like sunburn) that is never used. When he is given his job, he learns by the end of the book that his "perfect" world is not that at all. The ceromony of releasing, which at first is said to be expelation, is really fatal injection done to people ranging from the age of newborn to elderly. I don't want to ruin thending for anyone, so I won't.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good-- 3.5 stars to be exact Review: I read this book about a year ago and I thought it was good. I thought it was very interesting to see what the author thought the future could be like (for instance how the married couples are assigned to each other by their interests instead of falling in love). I liked the small twist at the end and would recomend this book for people who like science ficton as well as anyone who enjoys an easy-to-read and interesting book.
Rating: Summary: A touching story Review: I read this book about a year ago and it made me react. I felt so sorry for the people who lived there. Then again, I felt sorry for Jonas because of everything that he had to go through. This book has an amazing plot but the ending is pretty hard to understand. It would be nice to know what happened to Jonas and Gabe after leaving.
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth reading! Review: I read this book along with my 8 year old son. After spending the summer reading the 5th Harry Potter book, this little 180 page book gave us something more meaningful to reflect upon --i.e. how memories affect our lives. My son cried in the end, but overall, he loved it. He wanted the book to continue or to have a sequel. We also loved the author's Number the Stars.
