Rating: Summary: this book is nice, but no action and too long Review: I had to read "The Giver" for high school English, and I was surprised at how something like this actually made it into high school reading lists. It was actually intresting at first, but then tapered off to where I thought I was reading of life in my high school, not the fictional community. Think about it after you read it.

Rating: Summary: suprisingly great Review: i had to read a few of the anastasia books for a class. i'll be kind and say they were not to good (they [stunk]!!) i was reluctant to read another lowry book after that. is the author of the giver the same lois lowry?? lol of course it is and this book shows her talent as a writer. it's very provocative and quite scary as well. it's a story that sticks with you long after you read it. i loved it. why not 5 stars? i had to take one off because of the torcher the anastasia books put me through. lol
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I had to read The Giver for my Magic and Ritual class. The book was not without its charm, but for me, living in that world would be a personal hell. I would go insane! The fact that the persons in that book had no choices, independence and among many other things they couldn't even mature at their own rate. That book goes against every thing that i believe in, except the fact that the kid had enuf guts to run away. As for the technical side of the book, it was one of the most poorly written books that I have ever read. The plot jumped around, you couldn't follow it. Too much responsibility was left to the reader. All in all, i would not recomond this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: I had to read this book for 8th grade summer reading, and I must say I greatly enjoyed reading it. It tells to enjoy the little things in life that we take for granted. From a certain perspective, you could call this a nonfiction book. You probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not.Of course, it's not literally true, but from a certain point of view, yes.In today's society, we really are becoming drained of our colors ( and I don't mean colors like red, green, and yellow) and are feeling less emotion. You may tell your mother or child or girlfriend or wife that you love them and give them a hug or kiss, but we really are begginning to feel less emotion. It's true.Sure, go ahead, tell me that I'm insane, but I know what I'm talking about.Anyway, this was a GREAT book, and I recommend it to anyone 12 and over (the plot may be a little confusing for smaller children).
Rating: Summary: A "What If" Future Review: I had to read this book for a book report, and my teacher didn't like it, but I thought I'd give it a try. I loved it!!!!! I read it threee times before I had to give my book report. I thought it was wonderful!!!!
Rating: Summary: Giver a great book Review: I had to read this book for a class that i am taking and now i wished i had reda it earlier. I am not so big on reading but this has got to be one of the best things i have ever read. The fact that they book is not only about sharing memories and the importance of that but it lso deals with conformity and all the problems that can occur through onformity. The book describes very well and very creatively what would happen if we descnsitized every body in the world and basically turneds them into drones. The fact that people in this story had their fates chosen by others kind of scared me and made me think, what would we do if this happened to us? I really found this book to be interesting and at times some what confusing but it all became clear again within the next few lines. So in conclusion i will stop babbling and say that this is a great book and i haighly recomend it to anyone who is into strange or unusual things. ...
Rating: Summary: It's worth reading. Review: I had to read this book for a class. I had no clue what the book was about when I started it. But I actually liked the book. I thought that the main character Jonas made a great change in his character from the beginning to the end. The plot was great and it was a fast, easy read. Anybody who wants to get away from the world for a couple of hours should definately read it.
Rating: Summary: Not Everything Can Be Perfect! Review: I had to read this book for a school project and at first It seemed really stupid, but as I progressed throughout the book I began to really like it. It was really good until you got to the ending, it was what seemed like a waste. The ending was poor, but overall it was a pretty good book. I would recomend it to anyone in middle school.
