Summary: I think that this was the most awesome book ever written.
Review: I am in the seventh grade and have read this book three times. Each time it was a little better. Our teacher read it to us and everyone in the room groaned aloud. After we were done, they all thought that it was a really good book. I would recomend this book to anyone who enjoy's a good book now and then.

Summary: EKU Student
Review: I am not really a science fiction reader, but this book kept my interest all the way to last page. Excellent read! I would recommend this book for grades 7-9 or 12-19 year olds.

Imagine living in a unique world where no one has to make choices and life decisions are made for you. Jonas the main character in "The Giver" faces this conflict when he questions where people go after their jobs are over or if they are not qualified for a job. When he turns twelve he gets his assignment which drastically changes his life. It is not really the job he expects. Read the Giver to find out if he can handle the pressure of taking away opportunities to feel.

Summary: "The Giver" Book Review by Hanna in Mr.C's Grade 7 Class
Review: I am not usually very interested in science - fiction books, but I'd have to say this book, "The Giver", which is both science - fiction and fantasy, without a doubt, is one of the best books I've ever read. I would describe this book as very unique and unusual. "The Giver" will lead the reader to a whole new world.
This utopian society that the author had created is seen through the eyes of the main character, Jonas. This society that Jonas is living in has no emotional or physical pain, crime, suffering or disease. It is where everything is perfect except for the part that there is no colour and no freedom of choice, and even 'love'. All these things were left out of the community because of the problems all these things caused in the world of the past. When Jonas turns twelve, just like everyone else, he receives a job selected by the elders but unlike the usual, Jonas is singled out and is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. He gets special training from the Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the truth, pain, and pleasure of life. It is his job to pass these memories to Jonas. Now it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no way out.
This book, "The Giver", has a very mysterious and puzzling ending that keeps the reader pondering. The ending is left to the imagination of the reader. This book will make you think. It will make you actually look at the world you are living in.
If I had the chance to edit some parts of the book, I wouldn't have anything to change because this book is perfect just the way it is.
It is a great book and I would rate it 4.5 out of 5. It is very inspiring and a book that you will not regret reading.

Summary: I continue to read this book over and over again.
Review: I am now almost 18 and I hav probably read this book a billion times. Just this past school year, I used this book for a psychology paper. This book is a classic and anyone who reads it should also one day read "Brave New World." Good job, Ms. Lowry.

Review: I am reading this book for school, and I think it is a very good book so far. Im only on chapter 15 but should be finished soon. When I first started reading it, I wasnt really into it; but the closer I got to the ceremony of twelve, the more interested I got.The thing that makes this book interesting is the fact that only one person knows the history of the world. This is a very good book for young people. Every school should assign this book.

Summary: Halfway to 1984
Review: I am so glad that some schools require kids to read this book. I read it for the first time in 6th grade and loved it although I do have some personal problems with it. First there is no clear ending, it is highly reminescent of the "Lady or the Tiger." And I wanted Jonas to act against the community in some small rebellion, like entering into a sexual act/realitionship with Fiona. But no the wuss just ran away, and we don't even know if he got out. The writing of this book is not good, if you are looking for sharply developed prose, you need look else where. And I have noticed that some people think this book isn't appropriate for kids. I disagree about that, I think that all kids need to know that society has the potential to turn us all into unfeeling robot-like creature incapable of either pleasure or pain, each needed to expierence the other. But the god forbid the kids should have dirty thoughts. Maybe we should put them on the pills mentioned in the book.

Summary: The Giver brings a wide expanse of fun and knowledge . . .
Review: I am the oldest child in my family's household, and I am in eighth grade. For Reading class, we read this book as an assignment. Looking at the cover, it does not appear to be entirely too appealing, but the inside is what holds captive a jar of suspense, happiness, sadness, and a lillte bit of everything else that Lois Lowry meticulously inserted on each page of this wonderful book.
The main character is Jonas, a boy at the age of eleven. This book takes place in a future utopian society, where nobody has a worry in the world . . . that is, until Jonas is given his life assignment at age twelve. Together, Jonas and the Giver decide it is time for a big change.
This book includes a little mystery, magic, and everything in between! I know that any readers of The Giver will love it, and it will leave a great influence on your life, as it did mine. Maybe you will realize just how lucky you are right now.

Summary: The ending was FINE!!!!
Review: I am thirteen years old and in the 8th grade. I really love the Giver, even though I read it two years ago! It was very compelling and interesting, and it never became slow. There were unexpected turns in the plot at random spots, which I love. And though the ending was different, it was a unique ending for a unique book; a "happily-ever-after" ending would dillute this type of novel. Although I enjoyed the Giver immensly, I feel a sequel would dillute it. To me, the ending preserves the readers right to make choices, which was the main theme in the Giver.

Summary: The Giver applies to the humanities.
Review: I am using The Giver for a college English class. The contents can be tied to just about every humanities area, including sociology, psychology, history, and classical literature. Every contemporary societal issue is contained in the story.
