Summary: It was chilling and stunning
Review: We are reading the Giver for school. There was a lapse of time where we stopped and I was in so much suspence I had to check the book out from the library. This is one of the best books I've ever read. In comment to the one-star review, this book is very confusing at the beginning and leaves many ends open. But that is a good thing because it really makes you think. There are a lot of shocking surprises in this Utopian community. I recommend this book to anyone that is at least in 8th grade and who really likes to think about what they read. I finished this book stunned. One piece of advise: read this book!

Summary: "The Giver" led to great class discussions.
Review: We feel that the book "The Giver" was slow at first but started to appeal to our likings after pg. 40. After we got by that page, we felt like we couldn't put the book down for one minute. We just wanted to read more to find out what happened with Jonas and the community. Some of us were disappointed with the ending, but our class had a great debate on whether Jonas and Gabe lived or died. Jared and Peter

Summary: Sometimes it is hard to receive
Review: We got turned on to this book through a teacher's recomendation. And I have found I tend to like the Newberry Award winners. This is a very good book for young people who are ready to start wrestling with stories that pose ethical dilemas. This is not a fairy tale, though, thank Ja, it is fiction. We got a copy when our eldest daughter was graduating into chapter books. Since then, each of our children has chosen to read this book on their own. And, even better, talked with us about the issues it presents to them - issues of free will, responsibility, self sacrifice, choice, determinism. It allowed us to discuss difficult, sometimes painful choices while holding them at arm's length as you can with fiction. Still, it is a somewhat dark, disturbing tale. Not in the almost prurient RL Stine (Stein?) Fear Street way. More the way a brooding storm slowly, inexonerably moves up on you. Younger readers may find it too dark. But I think it is very much worth reading.

Summary: I luv it!!
Review: We had to read this book in school and I loved it!! Lois Lowry is so creative in thinking up a setting in the future! When I read the parts when the Giver gave Jonas the memories of the Wars, I felt ancient! I would really suggest this book to anyone who loves fantasy.

Summary: interesting
Review: We like the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry very much because it's similar to "our world". We could imagine that there will be such a world like the book explains. The book is easy to read and to understand.
We thought a lot about it and we are a little bit disappointed because of the questions we had while reading the book. It seems to us that the ending is too short and sudden.

Summary: Jonas lived in a perfect world
Review: We liked this book because it was a great mystery and action packed book especially when Jonas runs away from community and takes Gabriel and gives him warmth to stay alive. That's why we like this book and gave it five thumbs up.

Summary: The Giver
Review: We live in Germany and we read this book in our English lessons.
Although I thought that I wouldn`t like it because it is a story which takes place in the future it is interesting.
From my point of view I can imagine the feelings of Jonas.
Finally I would recommend this novel because it isn`t like each normal and predictable book!

Summary: "Enter the community"
Review: We read the book in school and I think it was a good choice of the teacher. It's not the best book I've ever read but if you like the theme you should read it. There are some boring passages but there are also some exciting ones. All in all the book is interesting for people who like books about such unrealistic themes. I would have expected another ending but it's a good choice by the author to make you think about it and imagine what happens to Jonas and the boy.
