Summary: Everyone should read this book at least once
Review: This is a superb book. I have read and re-read it many times, and loved it every time.

The book also forces you to think about things that most people don't think about that much, and to re-analzye certain common philosophical assumptions.

I think that everyone should read this book at least once in their life.

The biggest problem that I had with this book is the rather unsatisfactory ending; the story's resolution is suggested, but nothing is stated. Personally, I would have liked the story to have continued a little longer so as to find out what had happened later.

Summary: "The best book I ever read!!!!!"
Review: This is a truly awsome book. In this story, Jones, ( the main charecter) lives in a "perfect" world in the future. There is no hatred, feelings, love, religon, books, or history. Jonas is chosen to become the reciver of memory, and hold the Community feelings. Along with the Giver, Jonas makes a decision that will changehis life -and the Community- forever. This is a truly awsome book!!!

Summary: Appreciating Our Joy and Pain
Review: This is a truly wonderful depiction of mankind attemping to preserve only the "good" characteristics of life. Lowry clearly shows us the benefits of both worlds; in one world, suffering and happiness coexisted, in the other only "happiness" existed; in the former, life was sometimes unfulfilling and stressful, in this world, life is predetermined and stressfree. However, as Lowry expertly shows, if we let go of the "bad" things in life, the "good" things cease to have as much value. To Love without knowing what it is to Hate; to be Happy, without knowing what Sadness is; in some way the value of our emotions is lessened if we do not know what the opposite emotion feels like. Lowry helps us to see the many good things which exist in our world today...as well as the necessity of some "bad" things.

Summary: Wonderful Book!
Review: This is a wonderful book for all ages. THE GIVER provides a startling example of the importance of shared experiences and the impossibilty of utopian societies. The concept of opposites not existing without the other is also explored in THE GIVER, when pain cannot be eradicated without also eradicating pleasure. Lois Lowry has created a beautifully written book that you will think about for days after reading it.

Summary: "The Giver"
Review: This is a wonderful book showing what possibly may happen in the future. Lois Lowry opens the readers' eyes to the possibilities that life may not always be as we know it now. Jonas, the main character, is an apprehensive eleven year old at the beginning of this book. He turns into a very wise, knowledgable twelve-year-old. The Giver and Jonas live in a dull community without individualism, colors or any change at all (in weather, land, people, etc.). Jonas and the Giver are the only people in their community who have feelings and hold the memories (of pain and pleasure) of the past. To see how Jonas tries to save the memories of the past, read this thought-provoking story by Lois Lowry!

Summary: A "Must Read" Novel!
Review: This is a world of fairness, everyone is among the same level, except Jonas. Jonas became an "adult" when he turns 12, and he was selected to be the "Master" of this world. His teacher, The Giver, transferred the information of love, wars, and the outside world to him. Jonas is now promoted to a world of fear.
