Rating: Summary: Got You Thinking Review: This book makes you realize that in a perfect world, it would be great, but would be extremely boring. I found the book, like Number The Stars, very addicting. Even with strict rule, people will still lye and do horrible things. I enjoyed this book very much.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: This book moved me a lot when my teacher read it in class. I was always eager to hear what happened next. I was so eager that I got my mom to buy the book so that I could read it before the teacher finished. I've probably read it about 3 times since then and it's still not old. I would recommend it to those who would like to hear probable and interesting ideas about the future. (I love Ender's Game.)
Rating: Summary: Book Needs Help Review: This book needs serious help. Lois Lowry started out with a good idea but turned it into an oversentimental, childlike sci-fi wannabe. Plus, it has a similar plot to another one of her books, Gathering Blue. An author can't make money off of two books that have an almost exact plot, except with different character names. I was told that Gathering Blue is a COMPANION, but note that it was never said it was a prequel, sequel, or even book in the series. Take a breath of fresh air and read something else.
Rating: Summary: a true mind opener! Review: This book opened up your mind and made you think. It is a truly original book. I couldn't put it down. It's like a mystery putting everything together. After reading it you look at life differently.
Rating: Summary: An adult book disguised as a children's book. Review: This book preaches on the dangers of conformity as the supreme value. It includes such topics as infancide, mercy killings and child suicide. This book is not meant for children. Yes, blind conformity is evil. But this vehicle to preach against conformity is not for children under 14. Adults: Read this book before you decide to give it to a child. Is your nine or 12 year old ready to read about the killing of a newborn with an injection in the skull? Do you want your 11 year old to read about how suicide solved a twelve year old's problem? This book haunted my sleep and thoughts for quite a while. I pulled this book from my elementary school library shelves.
Rating: Summary: I think the Giver really sucked! Review: This book really didn't have a meaning to me. The ending sucked. You couldn't tell what happened. You should put in a better meaning to the end of the book. The book was very stupid also. It was very not meaningful.
Rating: Summary: Lois Lowry has a very vivid imagination! I loved this book! Review: This book really gave me a great insight on what would happen if there was no color, no feelings. Jonas' Community has no hate, pain, or suffering, because without feelings or color, there won't be fighting. Also in the book there was no religion. These three things are the main reasons war started. Somehow they got rid of them and that helped them make no war. But in doing that there haad to be no love. I think this book would be great for 6th graders like me because it gives you an insight to Waht If?
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I've Read In a While Review: This book really gives the reader a perspective of what it is like in a perfect world. It really makes you think.
Rating: Summary: the giver the book i read Review: this book really intrested me,but it was not the best thing i have ever read .it could be one of them .i liked the meaning of the book .that it was showing that we should be happy of how we live in freedom and they lived were they had there whole life planned out for them.so i am glad that i decide to read that book .so overall it was a pretty good book.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: This book really made me think about the views on the future and how incredably imposible having a perfect world would be. The beginning of this book really opened my eyes to the exact set up Lois Lowry describes the future to be like. It made me think of how things would be if the world were completely orgagnized. But 12 year old Jonas had to take on the memory of the world, finding the real dirt at the core of this "perfect" society. Departure was out of the question in the role he was assigned, but with the help of his adviser, The Giver, he had an escape ahead.
