Summary: It Was Interesting
Review: This book is not that great but it is not horrible. It was kind of weird since they lived in a perfect world. I think that Lois Lowery was very creative about coming up with the idea of this book though. The only thing I really don't like about this book is the ending so when you get to the end of this book make up the ending! I think that Lois Lowery should write a sequel to this book. That would be very interesting!

Summary: One word - Incredible
Review: This book is of a boy that lives in a world without color, excitement, fun, or anything out of the ordinary. This one little boy from a bland world is one of the few of those people to experience the things of the real world.

Summary: If you want a book that makes you think . . .
Review: This book is often overlooked by adults because of its "young adult" label, which is too bad. I have never met anyone--adult or child--who has not been moved by this book.

Lois Lowry is a master of storytelling, and this book is no exception. This is such a departure from her normal style of writing, and it is an absolutely amazing book. The idea of this "perfect" utopia and the restrictions placed upon its members are fodder for unbelievable conversation.

I teach this novel to middle school students, and it never fails to amaze me how they respond to this novel. I recommend that this book be read and discussed by people of ALL ages. What a wonderful book for families to read together!

(Be sure to check out Lowry's newest book, Gathering Blue, the long-awaited companion to The Giver!)

You can tell it was well thought out and planned. There are not a lot of deatails in this book but it is one of the few that doesn't need it. It's better to let the mind imagin it.

Review: This book is one of my all time favorites. It has got to be one of the best books of all time. Yes I'm being sappy, but The Giver shows people that yes there is pain in life, but look at all you have!

Summary: The Book Of The Year
Review: This book is one of the best books that I have ever read in my life, because of Lois Lowry's unique writing style. She leads the reader to think that things have taken a turn for the worse when unexpectedly, something good develops from the bad. This book is about a 12 year old boy named Jonas who lives in a changed world. In his world there is no crime, no pain, no cars, no color and no polution. Jonas is singled out from the other members in his community by the elders and is chosen to be the new Receiver of Memory in his community. This is the most important job in the community because the Receiver of Memory is the only person in the community that experiences pain, love and other emotions and feelings. Jonas feels increased pressure because the Last Receiver of Memory unexpectedly quit and left the community. THE GIVER has recived numerous awards among which is the 1994 NEWBERY MEDAL. This book is one of the best books I have ever read and I think it should be a part of everyone's collection.

Summary: The Giver of Reviews
Review: This book is one of the best I've read in years. Although it was my second time reading it,(I read it this year for my sixth grade class, and also read it 2 years ago) it was equally as great. This book makes you stop and relate to our world and life. It shocks you at every turn and keeps you reading. The pages are filled with themes. The idea of the book might seem crazy to some people, but it's really not too faraway. Jonas' life in the Community will really make you think. I recommend this book for anyone ages 11 and up.

Summary: a magnificent book showing the real thoughts of a boy.
Review: this book is one of the best science fiction books ever written. I am a person who can rarely finish a book because i am bored with it. But this book I think could keep any one interested. it tells a story while also showing deep things about the human personality. This is my favorite book that i have ever read and one of the few books that i will read again, i give it five stars.

Summary: You'll love it!
Review: This book is one of the few that have, at the end, made me go "Hmm, what if?" and stare off into space for a few minutes. When I was in seventh grade we read it, and the teacher tried to tell us what happened at the end. I agree with Lois Lowry's statement that it is up to the readers to decide, so everyone can enjoy the book. Keep up the good work, Lois Lowry!
