Summary: The Giver
Review: This book is about a kid named Jonas, who lives in a controlled world, with no fear, no pain, or no war. You might think he lives in a perfect world, Right? Wrong! In the Community, there is no choices, colors, pleasure, weather, love, emotions, etc. You can not choose your job, spouse, or anything like that. In the "Ceremony of Twelve", 12 year olds are assigned a job in the Community. Jonas is singled out, and gets special training from The Giver. When Jonas becomes the "Receiver of Memory", The Giver gives him the memories of the far past; memories of pain, fear, war, pleasure, colors, and love. (This book takes place in the future) Jonas receives the truth.......

This book is VERY original in it's plot, and it is interesting to see the point of view in Jonas's controlled world. I like how Lois Lowry decribes the memories that The Giver gave to him. She also well describes the way Jonas is feeling. It is a very thought-provoking book, which really makes you ponder. The ending sort of leaves you hanging though. I have read this book 3 times, and every time you read it, you understand more of this remarkable book. It just never gets dull. I read it first when I was in 4th grade,(I'm a good reader) although I would recommend it to kids 11 and up. 5 STARS!

Summary: This is a GREAT book
Review: This book is about a teenage kid living in the far future in a manufactured "community". Everybody's day is entirely planned out. The kid is chosen to be the next "receiver of memories", which is the person who holds all the memories of the past. I highly recomend this book

Summary: THE GIVER
Review: This book is about a twelve-year-old boy, in a world with out color, music, choices, or differences of any kind. Where people "apply" for children. Where people assign jobs to people. Where people are "released" when they get to old or do something wrong. The main charactor is "Jonas". Jonas can see color, hear music, and knows of the world before it became like it was presently. Jonas is compelled to change it back. The most emotional part was when Jonas was out in a field and all the kids started playing "war". The thing is, they don't even know what war is. As they're zapping each other Jonas goes into a fit because he knows what war is. I think that this book is one of the greatest books I have ever read.

Summary: The Giver
Review: This book is about a young boy far in the future that gets assigned a very important job. He lives in a community where everbody is equal. Nobody can see color or have memories of their pasts. There is only one person in this community that has these memories; he is called the reciever of memories. The reciever's name is the Giver. The boy, Jonas, is assigned to be the next reciever. The giver has to transport all of his memories from the past to Jonas. When he gives Jonas the memories he loses them. He gives him memories like war, family, love, and hurt. All of these things are only understood by Jonas and the Giver. This is the best book I have read in a long time. I do not enjoy reading very much, but this book hooked me. I read it in three days. I recommend this book for people who like the idea of the future and have a curiousity about different lifestyles.

Summary: Review on The Giver
Review: This book is about a young boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect organized world. In this world everyone is assigned a role. When Jonas was twelve he received the highest honor in the community, the job he was assigned to was "Receiver of Memory". Jonas's new job description was that he would bare the memories of the town and the world before the community was formed in order to protect the people. He has a specific ability to see color and that is how he was chosen for the job. Jonas meets with the old receiver, now called "The Giver", everyday in order for him to give him all the memories good and bad. After receiving most of the memories Jonas began to feel a great burden and understand the truth about this utopian society. Jonas knew the injustice and horror that occurred in order to keep the society in this "perfect" condition. Jonas believed that the memories he was receiving should belong to the people. He and the Giver think up a plan that will ensure Jonas's escape from the community and the return of all the memories. With his leaving the community the memories the Giver had given him would be released into the minds of all the residents of the community. It was the only way to change the communities understanding.
I loved Lois Lowry's imagination in creating this story. She allows everyone when reading this book to examine their own values on controversial issues in their own society and indirectly challenges them to change the issues.
I loved this book for its brilliant story. I really do feel that you get something different from it whenever you read it. I read this book in sixth or seventh grade and I did not get as much out of it as I did now. I loved following Jonas through the story. You could so easily imagine the society due to the very elaborate descriptions Lowry gave. An excellent story.

Summary: The Giver
Review: This book is about Jonas who lives in a community where there is no pain and the community is all flat. No one can see colors and there is one person that keeps track of all the memories. That person is "The Reciever". Jonas has a friend, Asher, who is a wild kid. Every December there is a ceremony like a birthday because you turn a different age. Each time you turn a different age you get something or something happens to you. When you turn 9 you get a bicycle and when you turn 12 you get your assignment. An assingment is the job that you will do for the rest of your life until you retire. They chose the assingment from the volunteer hours to do. For example if you do a lot of volunteering at the Nuturing Center your assingment will probably be Nuturer. Each child has a number at the ceremony which is the order they will be called up. The Cheif Elder skips Jonas's number then comes back to it. Jonas wasn't assinged, he was selected to be "The Receiver". He gets trained by the old receiver, which Jonas calls "The Giver", and gets to hold the memories. The Receiver is greatly honored because he can make decisions from past memories. Jonas gets the happy memories, but remembers the Cheif Elder saying that there would be pain so asks the Giver to give him memories with pain. During his training he sees colors for the first time and feels pain for the first time. Jonas's father is a Nuturer and he has to make a release. A release is releasing someone to another community. He watches the release and finds out that his father just kills the baby. Jonas runs away from the community and on his journey he feels pain, sees colors and sees hills. He also hears music which The Giver told him about.

Summary: The Perfect book, a must read for all levels of readers.
Review: This book is absolutely superb, it has something around every corner, everything is interlocking and it fits perfectly together. Jonas lives in a community where everything is perfect, no color, no hate, no war, no love, no feelings, everything is the same. Jonas takes on an incredible duty, as well as honor, when he takes on the duty of being the Receiver of memory. He must bear all the burdens of the Community, so they can live a carefree, and ignorant life. When he chooses to change that, free himself, and save his brothers live, he must flee from the community. He leaves behind everyone that he loves, The giver, Asher, Fiona, and his family. He commits the ultimate sacrifice to do what he feels, and the giver feels is right. The end is very sad, almost a tear jerker.

Summary: The Giver
Review: This book is amazing. It has the most intriguing plot of most any book i have ever read. It deals with a young boy who lives in the "perfect world"--no sickness, pain, hunger, divorce, or any of the troubles in our world. But when it is time for his job to be chosen Jonas is selected to be his community's(more like an isolated city) Reciever of Memories. Suddenly the horrible truth is revealed to Jonas- the truth of his utopia type world. This is his revelations about the world before this, and his reactions and decisions because of this. It is a book that I read every year, as I have for the past 7, because of its wonderful plot, and captivating ideas. A must have.
