Rating: Summary: The Giver is an enchanting and lovely book. Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry is an exiting original that will capture your heart and make you think about what life really is. It is beutifully written in imaginattive detail. Once you pick this book up you will never put it down untill its done.
Rating: Summary: Alek Dzikieleski Period 3 English Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry is science fiction. Jonas is the main character of the story. He is wierd, but everyone is wierd in the story. He and everyone else have to do a challenge once a year and get new stuff every challenge. They are cut off from the rest of the world. Airplanes cannot fly over this place when they do everyone is scared. This place is dark, no sun and surrounded by water. This book is okay, it does not have much details and this makes you want to know what happens.
Rating: Summary: The Giver, by Lois Lowry ws an exellent book, as a drama ser Review: The Giver, by lois Lowry was an exellent book as a drama series. Although it didn't have much action, The Giver was still a good novel. I like this novel because it has a variation of elaboration. If you are a firebrand, or emotional personIdo not recomend The Giver. If you can handle sad stories you should read this book. On a scale one to ten I'd give it a seven. I'd give this novel a seven because it had such goog elaboration, that I could almost see it as a movie. I took those three points off because there was not enough action. Me, Ilove to see action. The Giver was to realistic for me to enjoy. It was okay but Iam not that type of realistic person. I beleive that you should read The Giver if you like the type of story I have just explained.
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Read Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, has a great plot and supporting characters. Jonas, a boy of 12, lives in a family unit in his community. He serves as the main character who will question all of the rules he has known in his life. This novel is like a combination of Brave New World and Wait till Helen Comes. The themes of normal everyday life as we know it are broken by Lowry's great imagination. If you enjoy a slight bit of fanasty and a relief from the norms, Lowry offers the Giver as a great reward. This is one of the best novels I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: For the folklore class (Brianne Howard) Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is a very eye-opening book. It shows readers what the world would be like if everything was decided for them. It gets people thinking about how, even though life may have its problems and disasters, they are pretty lucky to be able to handle those things as they feel appropriate. It made me glad to have as much freedom as I do because I can express myself and be different. It makes you realize that we, as a society, take things for granted and we should appreciate all we have, all we have the ability to experience, including the pain and the suffering. The Giver teaches that we should appreciate these things because WE have the right to choose what we do and we can take any pain and suffering and use it to learn from, something that people in The Giver could not do. It makes you think about what you would do if you couldn't do that, if someone decided that a society should be uniform and not have any instability at all. In fact, something that people don't realize, that I did when I read this book, is that instability is what makes our society great. It's the spontaneity, unpredictability, and differences that make life worth living. The Giver is a great book that gets people thinking about their lives and how truly grateful they ought to be.
Rating: Summary: How Do They Live? Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is a well written novel with an exceptional insight into the future. I personally enjoyed how the author created her characters to live and function in a normal society, without the many luxiouries that we enjoy today. The idea of not being able to see color was an interesting detail that really made me enjoy the fact that people have not tried to make humans all the same. I could not imagine going through like without ever sliding on a sled, or feeling the warmth of the sun, or the frigid of snow. It must be hard for Jonas to receive these memories now that he has grown up in a well protected community. Lois Lowry did an amazing job describing her characters reaction through this brilliantly written story.
Rating: Summary: A great read for anyone. Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is about a boy who lives in a Community where everything is the same because of something called Sameness. I liked this book because of the job the boy, Jonas, was assigned and how it changes the way he looks at his life and the lives of his family. In December at the Ceremony of the Twelve's, all the Twelve's get their jobs. While the Twelve's where being called on stage Jonas was skipped over. After everyone had their jobs Jonas was called on stage. Jonas had been selected for the most honored job in the community, The Receiver. The Receiver is the person in the Community who holds all the memories from many generations before, and is called upon for wisdom and guidance. Another reason I enjoyed this book is because of how Jonas's life is so different from what we could imagine, because of Sameness. For instance, everybody in the Community is assigned a job, spouse, and two children, and everybody, with the exception of Jonas, can only see in black and white. They also do not have any hills, mountains, rain, sunshine, or animals and most citizens don't even know they exist. The final reason I enjoyed this book is because of the relationship between Jonas and The Giver, the previous Receiver. He acquires much wisdom and discovers unknown bravery during his time with The Giver. The Giver is a great book for people who enjoy the unusual and stories of bravery.
Rating: Summary: The Giver delivers Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is an excellent book for readers of all ages. The plot and the themes work together beautifully to keep the reader both intrigued and guessing. You find yourself appreciating your own world and the things we so easily take for granted. The Giver shows us a world without feeling and without emotion, and one cannot help but think about ways in which our own world is also devoid of such basic necessities in life. This book will entertain, but also educate the reader about the ways in which society as a whole can so directly affect each one of us as individuals. I highly recommend this book to any reader above the age of 11.
Rating: Summary: Drake Book Review Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is the story of Joanas who lives in a "perfect" community. A place with no crime, poverty, hunger, and any real feelings. Until Jonas learns the actions of the community he felt safe. Now Jonas, and his nine month year old baby, Gabe, are on the run to find a world that is real. The book has amazing depth and a real heavey theme. The only draw back is the immature way it is written. The book deals with very mature ideas, however the author seems afaird to tackel them. So many questions were left unanswered, so many fates undeterminded because of the author PG rating. However, the young adult writing didn't hinder this great example of literature. The Giver, by Lois Lowry is a unbelivable book. It makes you ask the question if a world with peace is worth living without a free will.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver, by Lois Lowry, was a very interesting and eerie book. It's about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect world. Nobody ever is upset, nothing ever dramatically changes, and nobody cares or realizes the one thing everybody is missing: memories. Jonas, apprehensive about the coming December that brings new changes, doesn't know what his assigned role in the community will be. But when the day comes, he is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. The Giver, who brings a whole new light to Jonas from the past, alone holds the pain, joy, and sorrow of the world in the past. Wanting to change, Jonas does one thing that could change the community forever. I enjoyed this book because of the alarming things being discovered about the community that Jonas lives in. The feelings Jonas discovered that he had never had before were the very things that changed his community. I disliked the fact that everyone was constantly apologizing in order to not break the rules. But overall this book was very good and had not a lot of action, but a lot of emotional feelings.
