Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver was a very good book, no doubt about it. Any book your read that gives you a whole new world always keeps you wanting to read more.Living in a perfect world with no worries, fear or pain, its just keeps getting more interesting. New things that you'd never have guessed would happen. Then only dissapointment about this book was that fact that then ending really had no point. But all in all, this, i would have to say, is a very good book.
Rating: Summary: My Review on The Giver Review: The Giver was a well written book. You Could not guess what was going to happen next. I have not read many books that are insteresting most of the way through. The book kept saying people get released and go to Elswhere so you think they go. Actually they are killed. Though in the book every thing happens the same way except for the memories, and when Jonas ran away. They had their own story line. The only part that I thought was bad was the ending. Personally I thought it was just plain dumb. They were going down a hill and Jonas heard music and it just stopped. To me you don't just stop an ending like that if you are not going to write a second book. She could at least have told whether he made it or not. Except for that, the ending was good. She described it well and left you in a lot of suspense. The end was the only part I thought was half bad. That's what I thought about The Giver. 7.3EC
Rating: Summary: A great book that keeps you reading till the very end. Review: The giver was a wonderful book that I can easily say is now my favourite. It's the kind of book that provokes thought and doubts the realism of the current world you are living in.
Rating: Summary: Review of The Giver Review: The Giver was a wonderful book. It was very adventurous and made the reader feel as if he was on the journey to individual freedom with Jonas. It made the reader appreciate diversity and understand why people must have differences. This book would be great for junior high aged students. The book could be used as a meaningful way to discuss a number of our society's issues.
Rating: Summary: The GIver was a good book Review: The giver was a wonderful, riveting book. It was an easy read that I finished in three days. The giver showed what the world would have been like without memories, emotions or qualities a person holds that makes them unique. Everyone was protected from what might have hurt them in any way. It was strange but the book was excellet. I rated it as a 5.
Rating: Summary: The Giver/Mrs. Shea/Period 1 Review: The Giver was about a boy named Jonas and his perfect world. He had everything going great. His friends were always there for him, there was no war, and no pain at all. Everything was in peace. When he turned twelve, he was assigned a special role like no other. Jonas was selected to receive special training from an elder man, who was called the Giver. The Giver showed him things that happen in the real world, introduced Jonas to things such as snow, sleds, runners, colors, downhill, and many other things that we experience in normal life. Then it was finally time for Jonas to get the truth, so he showed him the pain and pleasure of living a "real" life. My favorite part in this book was when the "Ceremony on Twelve's." It just came around the corner. This event shows a group of children who are to turn twelve. All of the children were assigned a job. These are the jobs that they must attend to for the rest of their lives. During this event, Jonas was the last to receive a task. This part was very exciting. Overall, I think that this book was great! It had a lot of cliffhangers. I couldn't stop reading on and on. It was an extremely exciting book. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspenseful stories because this is definitely one. Read this book!! It's very exciting!
Rating: Summary: The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, is an excellent book. Review: The Giver was about a young boy named Jonus who lives in a non-realistic and boring community with no color, no music, and no acctually feelings. For his 12th birthday, he and his friends who just turned 12 as well (since everything is the same), were all assigned jobs for their future as grown up people in their community. Jonus was assigned the Reciever, the most important job in the community. He is trianed by the Giver. The job of the reciever is to recieve all of the memories and feelings of the past so that the community doenst have to go through all the pain and anguish from when there wasnt "sameness". He also recieves good things such as love, and friendship, which the community doesnt have either. He realizes he needs to go "elsewhere" and leave all of the "sameness". While he is trying to get there, he is face to face with acctual pain instead of just the memory. But as soon as he gets to "elsewhere", all of his memories will be released into the community. I thought this book was so meaningful and i totally and completely agree with the author because I think she is trying to state that peoples differrences and feelings do matter and every one cannot be the same. I honestly think this is the best book I have ever read in my life. I recomend this book for any adult and for mature children who have stong feelings for advanced and meaningful books. I loved this book!!
Rating: Summary: Amazing!! Review: The Giver was amazing! It was about a boy named Jonas who lives in a community of Sameness. Where everything is the same and safe. Nobody has to worry about emotional pain. Everything was perfect until the Ceremony of 12. That's when everybody in his age group was assigned an assignment. When the Chief Elder skipped Jonas the crowd became uneasy. They paid attention to the rest of the assignments but were still anxious about Jonas. After the last assignment the Chief Elder announced a selection. Jonas was selected to be the reciever, the most honored job in the community. Jonas starts his training and experiences pain, joy, and even more in depth feelings. Things he's never felt before. I finished this book in 2 days. That means it was a very good book. (And it earned me an A in reading) Recently our Reading teacher read aloud Gathering Blue which, like The Giver, was set in the future. This book was much easier to tell though because of the memories, having technology, and because of the animals. Also they were alike because Lois Lowery left you hanging at the end. She wanted you to have imagination and figure out the ending on the own. And I still wonder if the boy with light eyes in Gathering Blue is Jonas or not. Overall this book was excellent!
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The Giver was an amazing book that really made me think about all the choices that people have made that have gone ary. In the future the people of earth have given up love, sex, color, music, and the right to choose your own job or have memories. The people each year at the ceremony of twelve which is when the children get their jobs they choose a giver. A giver holds all the memories and can see colors and hear music. Also they are the only people besides the people who perform the release to know the truth ( release is instead of death you'll have to read the book to find out what it is). The book really makes you think and can jog your mind about the future.
Rating: Summary: Imagination! Review: The Giver was an excellent book that would inspire one's imagination into the limitless number of memories and feelings the main characters in the book embark upon. while some of the issues discussed may not be appropriate for all readers I did not personally find any of the concepts offensive. In addition, this was a great coming of age book that I would personnally recomend to all your young-adult readers.
