Rating: Summary: The Giver - C.R. - Ft. Loramie Review: As I was reading this book, I was utterly amazed at the setting in which it took place. I could never imagine such a world where no one sees colors or feels any emotions. If I would have been in Jonas's shoes, I think I would have gone crazy. I also feel the book was well written, the imagery and the plot of the story go so well together. Perhaps my favorite part was when Jonas decided to keep giving Gabriel memories so he could sleep well at night, I admire Jonas's character, and I am even trying to be like him in some ways. Overall, this is excellent reading material!
Rating: Summary: Wow!!! Review: As there are so many reviews that has some kind of spoiler in them,I won't be describing what the book is about. After I finish this book, the first thing that came out of is "WOW." This book describe that a world need conflict and opinion and most of all-LOVE.I'd recommand to age 10+.
Rating: Summary: Grasped the reader, but recommended for younger readers. Review: As we read this book, we preceeded to critique and analyze every chapter, page and every line. It was through doing this that we came to the conclusion that this book is too simple for our mature minds. We believe this is an appropriate book for younger children, ages ranging from 10 - 14. High schoolers tend to think more profound and educated thoughts and this book was not realistic in terms of a teenager's state of mind. We believe this is a good sci-fi book, but in our class room atmosphere, we analyzed it when it should not have been analyzed. It should be read and enjoyed and not critiqued
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Ageless! Review: Aside from "The Giver" being an amazing read by means of entertainment, I was fascinated with the fact that it truly is a book for all ages. When I first read this book in 6th grade for school, I thoroughly enjoyed the basic storyline and theme of the story. I was old enough to decipher the main idea of the novel. Now, a junior in high school, I was able to appreciate and enjoy so much more while reading "The Giver" for the second time. The apparent importance of emotions, individualism, memories and even the gift of sight was revealed. I definitely recommend this book to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Decievingly Simple Review: At first glance, The Giver, a mere 180 pages easily readable in a single sitting, seems to be the average teenage novel. The plot and characters are fairly easy to comprehend and you don't have to be in an honors class to understand and appreciate this book. When I first read it in 6th grade, I thought The Giver was pretty cool. It's basically the story of how Jonas, a young boy, struggles with his totally concrolled life and eventually begins to break loose. He learns that while his society may be safe, having no choices and no freedom is not really living. Now, 5 years later, I read it again and am totally awestruck at the depth contained within this small novel. Moving beyond the plot and characters, I began seeing the social commentary and warnings that Lois Lowry had set in place. It honestly made me think about the world, and in fact, the thought of a life such as Jonas' is deeply disturbing. Imagine a world without color, without music, without love. A very scary notion, which makes for a truly awesome book. I highly reccomend it for readers of all ages. Grown-ups and middle schoolers alike with both enjoy this wonderful novel.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: At first I think this book will be a funny book but it isn't. It's a very hard and sad story. You have no own opinion and you miss all the beautiful events in life. The people in the community live in a prison from which you can't escape. For me the book is very interesting - but sometimes a little bit boring. It's a different style than other books have - that's one important reason for me to read this book.
Rating: Summary: I really enjoyed this book and would recommand it. Review: At first I thought that this book was not going to be one of those books that you can't get away from but by the time that I was partway into it I couldn't put it down. I felt highly enlightend by the concepts that this book brought forth. I feel that should be read by all young readers. I highly reccomend this book.
Rating: Summary: It's had an original idea. Review: At first I thought the book would be a complete bore but once you begin to read you will be amazed in what kind of world they live in. You will discover the wonderful ideas in our wourld that we take for granted and realaze how thakful we are for them.

Review: AT first I thought the book would be very boring, like most you have to read in school, but as I got father in the story I started to become interested in it.....it is so confuzing, but so powerful, I like the symblolism Like the main character being Johnas and how the old story of Johnas being trappend in the whale.....and Gabrial the baby and Gaberial the angel.....I would recommend this to anybody
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: At first This book is not interesting, but then after reading more pages you get cought on the book because you want to know what's gonna happen on the next pages of the book cause' he receives special training from The Giver. He must receive training to understand pain and pleasure for he could have not done it alone because he thought life was just enjoyment until met up with The Giver. This is a powerful and capturing book which should be read by people of all ages.
