Rating: Summary: This book was fantastic! Review: The book was very impacted with fun and exciting information that made you want to read more. Although it was somewhat confusing, it just made it so you'd review the pages over and over again making the parts in the book sink in.
Rating: Summary: The book was boring and complicated. Review: The book wasn't so insteresting, because in the begining the reality that Jonas was in didn't seem the same as the reality that I'm in. It wasn't easy to understand that Jonas's community doesn't have what in my reality does. Like Jonas's community doesn't have feelings of love, hurt, pain, sadness, or even happiness. People in his community don't want nobdy to suffer, that they want to have a perfect community. Something in this reality can't be.
Rating: Summary: The Giver, a great! Review: The book, The Giver is now my favorite book. I would definetely give it 5 stars! It is about a boy named Jonas. Where JOnas lives everything is the same. There is no color, and people are assigned there jobs. When Jonas turns Twelve, he gets chosen as the receiver. THe receiver receives the memories from the Giver. I really love this book!
Rating: Summary: An Interesting Concept Review: The book, The Giver was very interesting. It made me think of all the problems in our society today, as well as all the problems with a "Perfect Land." it shows how a utopia might not be a utopia without feelings. This book was a very interesting book, that made me think about our life today.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review By Rich Allen 7CC Review: The book,"The Giver," by Lois Lowry, is about a twelve-year old boy named Jonas. It is based on utopia and sameness. He lives in a community which is completely different from our society today. Everything the people do in the community is planned and discussed. In this world there is no anxiety, terror, pain nor war. In this book, there is a December ceremony which is something like a birthday in our world. At the ceremony people who are twelve get their assignments or tasks. Jonas is selected to be the " Receiver of memory" which is a powerful task in this community. The old receiver becomes The Giver and transmits memories from the past to Jonas. After revealing memories of joy, death, colour and love, Jonas discovers that his world is totally controlled by the Chief Elders. After finding out about his community, Jonas assembles a plan to escape. He takes his best friend or so-called brother Gabriel with him. By escaping from this world he's letting out memories that the people of this world have never experienced before. I think the end of the book put my class in awe because they didn't know whether Jonas and Gabriel died or survived. I thought this book was very fascinating and amusing. The way the author has written this book makes you want to read on further and further looking for another adventure. I think Lois Lowry wrote this book for children who entrust the future because she wanted to warn us what a perfect utopian world would be like. I think she wrote this book because she wanted the reader to use their imagination and intellect. In this novel, I think that the author presents us with a powerful thought of what the future may stand as and how marvelous our lives are. I would recommend this book to all readers who like both exhilarating and mournful books. I gave this book four stars because it was a terrific book. I thought Jonas was very brave when he crossed the bridge not even knowing where Elsewhere was. At the end of the book, I almost had tears in my eyes because it was so depressing. I found this book some-what confusing but all in all I thought this book was an exceptional read.
Rating: Summary: Lois Lowry is a genius Review: The books that Lois Lowry writes and amazing. Especialy in this book, theme and symbolism are brought through in a way that a child can enjoy just as much as an adult. Our whole family read this book and had a discusion on its connections to the Bible as well as to idealism and the significance of difficulties. I recomend this book to any age group, and any perfered reading genra, this book covers them all. --If you like this, also try Lois's other book, Gathering Blue
Rating: Summary: This book was exciting and suprising. Review: The career you choose is chosen for you. When "The Giver", by Louis Lowry, is about a community that has no famine, violence, crime, prejudism, and diseases. In the community where a twelve-year-old boy named Jonas lives, family units are picked out, you have no thoughts, and when you have dreams, you get a pill to make them go away. Jonas wonders what career he'll get and if he'll get the same career as his friend Asher. I sort of liked and disliked this book because of how the people have their careers picked out for them and that when you have dreams, they're controlled by pills that make them go away. What I like about this book is that it's very calm and a very quiet place and you can't get hurt really bad. What I also disliked about this book is that your careers are chosen for you and the families are being chosen. I recomend this book to everybody who likes to read non-fiction books and read very exciting books.
Rating: Summary: Giver Review Review: The community was excited when they heard the plane go by. Jonas was worried about what his Assignment would be. Jonas starts to see-beyond. At his Ceremony of Twelve he is afraid they've forgotten him. He finds he is given a very special assignment at the end of the ceremony. He is surprised by his new rules and finds them different from anybody else's rules in the community. He begins his special training. Jonas finds out what being "Released" is. He decides he doesn't agreee with the community. The Giver helps him make a plan to escape. He is forced to leave early and finally makes it to Elsewhere... or does he?I would recommend this book to anyone. It's fun for people of all ages to read.
