Rating: Summary: Excellent and creepy at the same time Review: The book is great. It really makes you think about a perfect society. When you first start the book you think about there is no freedom and how you never would want one.then the more you get into the book you think about how the elders spend so much time choosing the your job and how suited it is to you. They have ritual ceremonies and everything is the same and there is no hate or crime and death is all because of natural causes not suicide or murder.
Rating: Summary: best-written-english-book Review: The book is the best english-written book I've ever read. That's not because it's my first one. It's also much better than some German books because it shows a future that really could be in some hundret years. Jonas lives in this world and he only can see black and white, don't know what has been in the past and does everyday the same job. But then comes the day of his 12th birthday and everything changes It's interesting written, easy to understand and it's great fun to read this novel.
Rating: Summary: No one is perfect Review: The book is worth reading because it has excitement and mysterious. It can inspire the readers who grew up learning that everything is perfect while it is supposed not to be. The age does not matter only if you have courage to face challenges.
Rating: Summary: hard to imagine Review: The book is written in an easy language but we are sure that the content is not easy to understand for children. The ending is a bit unsatisfactory, but all in all it is fun to read the story because living in such a community is very hard to imagine. So you have to use your imagination.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read. Review: The book may start off slow but if you like those "Brave New World" type books this one is a keeper. The story centers on a "perfect" society where there is no pain, hunger, unemployment, or love, and emotions. If a Group of Elders sees anything as obsolete, getting in the way, they get rid of it. A twelve year old boy is given the job as "Reciever of Memories" and is supposed to keep the knowledge of the world to himself so no one will ever question the way things are. But when he finds out the truth he and the Giver, the one who gives him the memories, form a plan to release the memories back to the population. While I won't give away major plot points to this story, I will say that I found some of the images disturbing. "Brave New World" and "1984" are better books but this one is the best Utopian/distopian books I've read in a while.
Rating: Summary: I enjoy this book, but the life sysle was crazzy Review: The book opened my eyes to another way of thinking. I don't think that way would work in the real world. I didn't like how they kill people for what they do.

Rating: Summary: Superb Review: The book tells a village, no wrong word, it's community, which everything is "Sameness", that means everything is the same. The people there can't see color, nor feel any feelings. There is this child, Jonas, which been select to be a Receiver of Memory. The Giver, which was the previous receiver giver Jonas memory of feelings, color, and pain. But, Jonas felt alone by having the power, he wanted to share the feelings. Then he made one with the Giver. I'm not going to tell you the rest. I want you to find out the unexpected ending.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The book that I am doing is called "The Giver". It is about a boy name Jonas who turned twelve and became a receiver. During his time of life, people of each age would have a community service which they would become something. For example- Jonas turned twelve and became a receiver which he gets to tell lies. He doesn't tell lies to anyone before. Then Jonas had met a guy who he calls himself The Giver. The Giver gave Jonas memories and thoughts. I think the book "The Giver" is a pretty good book, but some of the parts I don't understand that makes me confuse in the beginning. Once I keep reading it until I got to the middle of the book, it was starting to get into me. It has really touching details and it is like I am part of the book. It was like I was Jonas of his point of view. This author name Lois Lowry is a great writer to create this great book. I think that the book, "The Giver" is a great book that everyone might enjoy.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The book that I really liked is called the Giver. it wasn't the same as any other book I have read. A lot of people like stories that are just mysteries or just something surprising happens. But this book gots a little bit of mystery in it as well. In this community everything is the same. Kids get their bike at a certain age. The best part occurs when you get to the middle of the book. I really recommend this book to people who like to read.
