Rating: Summary: Comment by us Review: The Book "The Giver" plays in the future. There is a community which is ruled by a Receiver and some elders who tells the inhabitants what to do. One of these inhabitants is Jonas who is selected to take over the most important job in the community. I didn't like the book very much because I don't like such unreal stories. I think the author wrote too much unrealistic things, for example I can't understand why the community has developed into what they are in the story. Many things that are part of over our lives were abolished (also all dangers) and I can't quite understand why...Metal Rulez !!!
Rating: Summary: The Giver, a " perfect" world Review: The book "The Giver" takes place in a futuristic and perfect world. The author, Lois Lowry gets an award, the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contibution to American literature for children, but it might be interesting for adults too. Jonas, the main character, lives in a far future. In this future, the people do not live in cities, no, they live in communities. Jonas goes to school and does his volunteer hours, the rules say it so. These rules can be compared with our law. If you break one of the rules for the third time, you will be released, which means you have to leave the community. One day, at the "Ceremony of Twelve" (a kind of birthday celebrity), Jonas is chosen to be the new "Receiver of the Memory". This means hard training for him and one day, during the training, Jonas finds out about the dark side of this, his "perfect world". First he has to accept these things, but finnaly, Jonas decides something, that will change his life forever. When you read the book, you will notice that Lois Lowry uses words you have never heard before or have a new meaning. This makes it very interesting to read the book, you must first understand the system and then you can understand this mysteries world. First the book contains an introduction, which is (imho) not so interesting, but then it builds up an undescribable thrill, which forces you to read on and on. Except of the introducing part, the book has no weaknesses. One of the positive aspects is, that this book was written for children, but it can also be read by adults who feel young inside or occasional readers. I can only advise you to read it. If you want to buy a book, think about "The Giver"!
Rating: Summary: About a world, which SEEMS to be the perfect one Review: The book "The Giver" tells us about a world, which seems to be the perfect one, because there are no negative emotions, there is no pain, no war...but soon it comes to your mind that it is surely not the perfect world. There is no love, no joy, there are no colours, no music... . When you read the book, you first think that the people in that community live in a perfect world, then you think that they should miss something (joy, love, ect.), but then you realize that they are not able to miss things like that, because they have never known these things. The storyline is very vivid and makes you think about our world today and how it would be, if we had to live in a community like it is shown in the book. You also get frightened, because the book takes place in the future, so you ask yourself, if our world will change one day and will be like it is described in the book. It is better to read the book one more time after the first, because the plot is such complicated and with the knowledge from reading the first time you are able to understand the book much better and not only step by step. We think, you should read this book, because it opens your mind to think about the definition of "perfect", the meaning of feelings and about the future.
Rating: Summary: A good book for SF-Fans, but not for me Review: The book "The Giver" written by Lois Lowry is an ordinary English book. The story she describes is a fantastic and perhaps realistic story. The world of Jonas can be compared to other Science-Fiction books like "Brave New World". One of the negative points is the unsettled end.
Rating: Summary: a very intersting book Review: the book ''the giver''written by lois lowry deals with a group of people, who seem to live in a perfect world. it's very intersting to read ,but i can't imagine how life would be without feelings,memories,coulours,... i think ''the giver'' shows us how lucky we can be to have all these things.
Rating: Summary: The Giver-interesting book Review: The book 'The Giver' was a book that could tech you lessons. It was a type of book that you had to pay attention to so that you could understand the meaning and the lessons that we going on throughout the whole book. I thought that it was intesting at some parts because you had to really go back and think about what you were reading. What i really thought was intesting and yet neat at the same time was that Jonas could interperate these memories that the Giver had, and also being able to say the word before The Giver told him what it was.(p.85) Like i was saying the book really makes you want to think about all these questions that run through your mind...like " Is this possibly what the future really holds," or " If it is the future then how will it start and when will it start." Just different questions ran through my mind about some of the things. This book overall was a pretty good book! I think that it could have a different ending to it, but if that is the way that Lois Lowry wants to end it then i guess she can. 7.3 MB
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: The book gave me a lot of feeling, and understandment. I feel the book had a lot of meaning. It was hard to understand at first. The characters were great. The setting of the book made me feel that their community was very weird.
Rating: Summary: It is an interesting and suspenseful book. Review: The book has a very vague ending, which allows me to imagine what is going on. Different people will think of it differently, and I just have to let my imagination flow. It is a very imaginative book which I would recommend wholeheartedly.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: The book I am reviewing is The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book is about a boy named Jonus who lives in a community. I don't know where Jonus's community is because there is little description in the book. It could be anywhere. Jonus is a boy who is like an ordinary boy until he meets the Giver. But Jonus's community is very strange. They can't see color and at a certain age you get released. Some people in the community think releasing is a good thing. Also each family is only allowed to have a boy child and a girl child. Jonus can't understand things about his community but there's one who can. The Giver. The Giver is a wise old man who can see memories that others can't. But not all memories are good such as sunburn and breaking your leg. Jonus learns lots from the Giver and even receives some memories. Jonus becomes a whole new person because of the Giver. For example' Jonus gets tougher and wiser than he was earlier in the book. In this book I don't think there is a time period. It could be in the future or the past. If you're looking for an adventure book and a thrilling book, pick The Giver. I like the whole book except the ending because I did not think the book should end that way. I learned that our world is a lot better than Jonus's community. Lois Lowry has also written Gathering Blue, and lots of other great stories. I think Lois Lowry likes writing adventure books and science fiction ones.
