Rating: Summary: wonderful read for all ages Review: Read it as a child and it was my favorite book, re-read it as an adult and I like it even more.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: Read this book in English class when I was in 7th grade and I really liked it but was deeply disturbed at the same time while reading it.The Giver is about a utopian society that practices "sameness" and is really dull. It has no color, no diversity, no feelings, no weather, nothing whatsoever out of the ordinary. People who aren't perfect, people who break the law and the old are "released" from the community to go on someplace else. The main character is selected as "The Reciever of Memory" and thus starts his difficult journey as "The Giver". The author of this book, Lois Lowry put a huge amount of thought and philosphy into this book and also won an award for it. I would highly recomend reading this book, and it is part of my Permenant Collection.
Rating: Summary: This one makes you think! Review: Readers who like to think about what they read and not just read it will love this book. It is about Jonus, a 12 year old boy living in a perfect world. There is no hunger, color, sadness, anger, nothing like that. Jonus is wondering what his profession will be, and is shocked with the result. You will, too, if you read this book!!
Rating: Summary: their world is our world Review: reading 'the giver' gives you the opportunity to think about the brutality of our own world. an ending which leaves space for speculation is the adequate one for such a story. many found that disappointing and disturbing, though.
Rating: Summary: My Impression of the Giver Review: Reading the book was quite interesting because the reader experiences a world completely different compared to our world. It`s a world without love, feelings, feelings of pain and war, climate, without making own decisions and that`s why this book is so interesting! The story deals with Jonas who is at the age of 12 and who has the most honored job in the community called "Receiver", which means that he receives the memories of the past of the community, which are given to him by the "Giver". On account to the hardness of his announcement, he escapes from the community to search "Elsewhere"...in the end he arrives there! I want to recomment this book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: Reading The GIver makes me feel like I am living in a utopia world. While I was reading this book, I put myself into this pretenting that I am Jonas. I think everybody should read this book.
Rating: Summary: memories unknown Review: Reading The Giver was a very interesting to me. At first, the thought of living in such a world of perfectness and simplicity was amazing. No worries, no tears, no broken promises, no hate, no pain. Wow, amazing. But then it seemed to be unbalanced because there was no love, no pleasure, no happiness. This is when the story gets confusing and emotions start to rise. Jonas was the main character in the story. He was to be the next upcoming Giver. This seemed to be an exciting job for Jonas. then the training began. Jonas was to be accepting the responsibility of feelings and emotions. Pain, hate, love, anger, sadness, happiness, war, joy and the ability to see colors and lie. This was all new to Jonas. He couldn't fathom how he would accept and carry the responsibility to bear all of these emotions. An incident occurs in which he sees his father murder a baby. This was apparently too much for Jonas to handle. He decides to run away from his community. This was a very dangerous decision for Jonas to make because it was illegal. There were some night watches looking out. Jonas didn't care and decided to go "Elsewhere". Jonas shows bravery in his choice to leave his community which he realizes is filled with imperfection and ignorance.
Rating: Summary: THE CONFLICT BETWEEN FANTASY AND REALITY Review: Reading this novel makes you realize what a cruel, harsh planet we live on. Jonas never had to deal with pain or feelings. Everything so awful in our world was taken out of Jonas's, but everything was still missing from the lives of his community. Color, music, love, and even choices were lost. What we need to do is be thankful for the things we DO have instead of dwell on the things we don't. This is one of very few books where you don't need a sequel to know how the story ends.A REAL PAGE TURNER
Rating: Summary: The Best book i've ever read!!!!!! Review: really good. You have to read it at least twice to grasp the whole situation but it's definately worth it.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: Really makes you think. It makes you think about how grateful you should be for what you have and how bad some things really are but because we are used to it we think nothing of it. For example I play this 3rd shooter game, after I read the book, I realized how bad the concept was, just killing someone else, because we are used to it, we just think its nothing, but it really is horrible, especially war in real life. You have to read it to understand.
