Rating: Summary: Confusing, but good Review: Our grade 6 class had to read the giver. I liked it, but the end didn't make sence. Jonas lives in a world that is perfect. They can't see colors, and they get assigned a job when they are 12. Each family has a mother, a father, a girl and a boy. This book was ok, but I would reccomend this book to 12 year olds and up.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: Our opinion of the Giver is it was interestisting, but it was a great adventure. Sometimes it might be a little confusing but in the end it's a great book. It was very well written and it must of taken a long thought process. It was a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: One of best books we've ever read!!! Review: Our seventh grade reading class was assigned this book to read. Lowry did an excellent job of describing the events so that you felt as if you were there. Our teacher blushed during the "Stirrings", and we laughed. (at her)We were all saddened when we found out what "released" meant and, we were shocked when we discovered Rosemary's identity. We had mixed feelings about the ending. Some of us liked it, and some of us didn't. However, we all agreed that it was worth the time to read.
Rating: Summary: The Giver Review: Our world today is totally different than Jonas's world. I liked that noone in his world had bad memories about the past to deal with. Only the Giver and Jonas the Receiver of memories received the memories of pain and color. I also likedthat everyone over 12 had a job in the community. Those are some of the many reasons I liked this book.
Rating: Summary: This is a really great book! Review: Out of the two books that Mrs. Lowry wrote, that I read, I like The Giver the best. I thought Number The Stars was kind of boring. I liked how Jonas was my age, in The Giver, so I could relate to him a bit. And, even though Gabe wasn't Jonas' brother, I could relate to that, too. So, I could really get into the book, because of that.I didn't like the ending of The Giver, though. I don't think many people liked the ending either. So, I have a request, could you make another book, of the same topic, but with a better ending? I also didn't like the whole release thing. Especially with the twins, how they would kill the one who weighed the least. Overrall I would say this was a great book, and just forget about my rating I put! I really got in to it, even though it was an assignment for my English class, well, now that I think about it, so is this letter!
Rating: Summary: This book is weird, but I liked it. Review: Over the summer I read a book called the "Giver" for my PRE-AP language arts class and I really liked the book. I liked some parts of the book and some parts i did not like or did not understand. If you wold like to find out about more of my review please read on. The parts of the book that I really liked about the book were it's elaborations and how on some parts ho they made it clear and how they had great allusions and alsohow they made characters names fit the books such as Jonas,Gabriel,The Giver's name. Jonas which means (dove a symbol of peace). In the book how they showed this is when jonas found out that release meant to kill. When Jonas knew exactly what it meant he knew what he had to do and that they were going to release gabriel,he took Gabriel and took him to elsewhere and he left everything he knew and loved and left it behind just to save someones life not worring about his own.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book No Matter What Review: Personally I think this book is fantastic. Instead of focusing on a personality-free world, as one of the other readers might have thought, it actually shows that we need a bit of everything to keep the world going. We need war, and we need rebels. We need conflict and we need pain. We will always need change, and, like the book says, we will always need love, no matter how corny that sounds. This really is a great book, so I strongly suggest that you should read it and/or reread it.
Rating: Summary: the best book ever written Review: Personally, ever since reading this book in 4th grade I have loved it. it shows true emotion, speaks of struggles that are understandable, and provokes thought. This book is amazing in that there is no way you can read this and not take something out of it. I have read it at least 5 times and am still wanting to read it over and over. this book teaches me so much about life, and the value of what we have. it made me happy to know that i live in a "functional" (compared to disfunctional.. the way they live) community! i would definitely reccomend this book to any age, any gender, any time! this is my all-time favorite book!!!
Rating: Summary: My Opinion Of "The Giver" Review: Personally, I didn't really care for "The Giver". Yes, it is a good book, with a good plot, but what spoiled the book for me was the way the characters acted. When I read a book, I like to have more than one character be three-demensional. As I read this book, I grew increasingly fustrated at the behavior of the other characters actions. The only characters that seemed to have any remote form of demension were The Giver and Jonas. In my opinion, if the other characters that were mentioned on a regular basis, perhaps the book would have been more enjoyable to me. However since that was not the case, I cannot find too much that I enjoyed from this book.
