Rating: Summary: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Review: Speak gives readers a chance to see inside the life of a high-school freshman dealing with a devestating secret. Melinda Sordino is hated by all of her classmates and friends after calling the police at an end of the summer party. No one knows really why she called, except for the assumption that she is a nark. All through her freshman year, Melinda becomes withdrawn, silent, and an outcast. Melinda hides in the janitor's closet or in her room to avoid confrentation with others such as: classmates, teachers, and family members. The only class Melinda attends on a daily basis is her art class. The art class gives her time to release her feelings and emotions. The book has readers wondering throughout the entire book if Melinda will ever conquer her dark secret within herself. Speak will make you cry, get mad, rejoice, and will become a part of your heart. We think Speak is a realistic book for 8th grade and above students to understand the reality of situations. This books depicts how people can become outsiders and withdrawn from society when hiding a dark secret within.
Rating: Summary: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Review: The narrator of this book is Malinda Sordano. She is a teenage girlwho starts high school with a problem. This book is a novel of manner. From the first moment at Marryweather High, Melinda Sordino knows she's an outcast. She busted an end of the summer party by calling the police. Now her frinds will not talk to her, and the people she doesn't know give her dirty looks. She feels uncomfortable and stops speaking. She goes to her classes and sits there in complete silence. She tries to avoid the problem, but it wont go away. Once she stops talking and everyone stops being friends with her she gets scared and has to have someone to talk to and talk about her feelings. She can't be silent she must speak the truth. When I first saw this book, I didn't really want to read it. I read the first few pages, and it was so interesting that I wanted to read more and see what happened to Melinda Sordino. This book is very good for teenagers because it's about a conflict that we all face at one time or another.

Rating: Summary: Speak Review: The book I read was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. She writes about things teenagers go trough in life. This was honestly one of the best books I have ever read. Melinda Sordino is definatly not an ordinary teenager, but she used to be. She used to hang out with friends, go out on Friday nights, and go to parties. That's the thing that changed her life. Shw was at an end of the year party with one of her friends, and she fell to peer pressure. She goes through school not wanting to but thinking about what happened that night. It won't leave her brain, and she is trying everything she can to let it go. It's hard when everone hates you. As the year goes on, Melinda needs to clear her head. She becomes difficult to deal with in school, she skips, and doesn't socalize a whole lot. She, her parents, and guidence councelor become very involved and concerned and have meetings about Melinda. A way to escape her problems, Melinda has been keeping an old janitors closet as a sanctuary whenever she needs to get away. She fills it with pictures that she drew or screwd up in art class. She is a real good artist, but doesn't really realize it yet. That's also another way to escape everyday life. But, in art class, she can't just draw anything. She has to draw a tree, and develop it throughout the year. It's a project and she is progressivly getting better. Melinda also had friend issues but it doesn't really concern her or keep her from what she wants to do. She has had many friendships but they all ended because of one thing that happened that night at the party. Why did she have to call the cops? This book takes place in present day Syracuse, New York. It is written in a diary-sort format and the time frame is by quarters in school. I strongly suggest reading this book Speak. It was one of the most excellent and realistic books I have ever read.Alexandria Auffant
Rating: Summary: A Rollercoaster! Review: I read this, because it looked intresting, and is not one of those way-too-boring books that everyone reads in class, both of my english teachers said its a great book, and I had so much fun reading it, probaly my favorite book in the whole world, even as the problem in this book gets bigger, its still a funny book. However, this doesn't mean its for younger children.

Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read... Review: This is probably one of the only books that has ever moved me to tears. Melinda is so realistic - you can just see parts of yourself in her. She is the Universal Tortured Teenager. Even though she doesn't talk, she says volumes through silence - something that's very hard to do. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has at least a few hours of free time, because once you pick this book up, you can't put it down until you're finished.
Rating: Summary: One Of The Best Books Ever. Review: "Speak" is one of the best books I have ever read. When you read it you get so glued to it that you think of it as reality and a complete picture in your head. It's one of those books that make you stay up late a 2:00 in morning, red-eyed with awe. A must-read.
