Rating: Summary: a good book Review: I just read Speak for a free choice book assignment. I thought that this book was excellent. Definitely 5 stars! I related to a couple of things in the book.It is really unusual for me to actually read for pleasure, but with this book I couldn't put it down. Laurie Halse Anderson put this book together really well and she is a very talented writer. She made everything fit together perfectly. Ms.Anderson kept the story upbeat and interesting. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book For All Young Adults Review: Speak was a book that I read together with my health class. I didn't think it would be that great of a book because we were reading it in class but I was wrong. I begins with the viewpoint of a highschool outcast named Melinda. She used to have many friends but now they are all mad at her but they don't know the real reason Melinda did what she did. The past summer one of her friends Rachel got them into a high school party. Melinda called the cops on that party. That is the reason none of her friends will talk to her now. At the sametime Melinda is trying to find friends her family life is changing for the worse at times. It seems her mom is always working and her family never spends any quality time together. As you progress through the book "IT" starts to show up a lot. "IT" is a person and a secret that Melinda is keeping. "IT" from the party she was at. Melinda is fighting to keep her grades up to keep her parents happy, perfect her tree in art, and to forget that horrible night at the party that summer. Yes it was her that called the cops but why would she do it when she herself had also been drinking? What was the real reason she called the cops and why didn't she tell her friends? Read "Speak" and you will find out and also get a few laughs at the sametime.
Rating: Summary: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Review: I read the book Speak as an assignment in my freshman girl's health class. I usually don't like the books that I read in my school classes, but this one as an exception. I found that it was really easy to get into this book because it interested me and dealt with some interesting subjects. It is an especially good book for girls. Guys may enjoy this book also, but it covers a lot of extra points and facts that many girls should know. It may also be good for girls because if they have dealt with this problem it can give them a better understanding. In this book the main characters name is Melinda. Melinda is a freshman in high school. I am also a freshman and reading this book made m realize that a lot of the same things that are happening to her could be happening to me. Melinda used to be a very popular girl who had a lot of friends and everyone was nice to her. Then at an end of the year party of her eighth grade year, something horrible happens. Something so horrible and devastating that she makes the decision to call the cops. When she is on the phone someone else from the party takes it from her and shouts to warn everyone else that the cops are coming and that the party is going to be busted. After that her friends wouldn't talk to her. Not even her best friend, Rachel. Melinda goes through her freshman year with only one friend, named Heather. Towards the end, Heather leaves Melinda to be part of a special group called "The Marthas." When Melinda finds that Rachel is in trouble she tries to help her. She confesses to Rachel what happened at the party and why she called the cops but Rachel doesn't believe her. Melinda took a vow of silence the night of the party, but will she break the silence to get the truth out and save he so called 'friend' Rachel? You have to read the book to find out!! It's a good book and I know you will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent? Yes. Review: Laurie Halse Anderson has left a permanent mark on the world with this book. Not only is it excellently written, but Melinda is quite possibly the most relatable character ever. She will draw you in with her tale of being a lonely outcast, and will keep you there after exposing you to the torture and abuse from her fellow classmates. Recommended to anyone who has ever been abused and left in pieces, never quite finding out how to place them together.
Rating: Summary: "Speak" speaks out! Review: This book was great! This book is about a girl who is an out cast for something that happened in the past that she is terrified of. She wants to avoid what happened but sometimes you have to speak up for yourself. This book really shows how it feels to be picked on and how bad it really can hurt.It may go a little slow in the begining but later, you wont want to put it down!
Rating: Summary: Good Book- Bad Ending Review: This was a really interesting book. I couldn't put it down. However, the ending wasn't that good. I was expecting something better. It just ends without much explaination at all. Kind of disappointed me. Otherwise it was fascinating...
Rating: Summary: The BEST book ever writen Review: This is hands down, the best book i have ever read. I read it so fast and continually read it to capture the allure it gives out from start to finish. As Melinda goes through high school with a cynical, outrageous attitude, it makes you think about your days in high school, the teacher who has gross hair in front of her face, the coach who is stern and had the neck the size of a football in itself. The perfect girls with good looks and better grades and of course, the odd- balls that we stared at. I loved how Melinda was writen, even though some of you diagree with what she says, you know you secretly thought it when you were younger. What really caught my eye was how she slowly but surely gets her point across. She convinces you in a slight way and tells you her story peice by peice. I fell in love with every charecter and vividly recreated the chapters in my head. I love this book and hope that everyone gets a chance to read this witty classic that will go down in my books for years to come.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: I loved the book Speak. It was about a girl, Melinda, who was an outcast and didn't care. I liked the book because I can realate to her and her feelings. She has a problem with not being in a group and being alone. She seems to always be in the wrong place at thye wrong and get blamed for everything. Melinda finally meets a friend, Heather, who wants to be popular. My favorite part is were she finds the unused janator closet. She desides to use it as a hide out and make it look pretty nice. Melinda finds a chair and a broken mirror in the closet. During assembleys she would sneek into the closet to be alone. I just like that she never got caught. The author of this book did a good job on the setting. She discibed stuff very vivididly discibed the closet. It made you feel like you were there. You could even see the cobwebs in the corners. Also the author did a good job with the charcters. She showed how teens are so worried about being in groups and how some just don't fit in. Also she showed how some can be so crew to people who are diffrent.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: This book is probaby one of the best books I have ever red. The main reasons are probably that this book is reality for some girls. Getting raped can happen to anyone, at anytime, or anyplace. Another reason is that the author was very good at describing the emotions and feelings of Melinda after the incident. The biggest reason I liked it was that Melinda was just like me (minus the whole rape thing). She was cool and carefree. The worst part was probably the two times the boy tried to rape her. It was both scary and sad at times. What ran through my mine was how could a human being do that to another human being. It was disrespectful and violating. The author did a excellent job on describing the characters. Before Melinda was raped she had tons of friends and was the most popular girl in school. But after it happened she was a social outcast and was hated by others. Another good thing was the theme of the whole book. Melinda was trying to regain her pride, self-respect, and courage after a horrifying summer.
Rating: Summary: Really, really good! Review: This book is about Melinda, a freshman in high school. Over the summer, she called the police on a wild party, and now she's lost all her friends, and everyone in school hates her. With no friends, Melinda slowly stops speaking altogether, and in the end she has to face what really happened that night of the party. This is a really great book about a girl trying to deal with something awful that happened in her past.
