Rating: Summary: a little voice Review: Its about a girl name Melinda. Who got in to trouble at party and called the police. Now all her friends and peers shun her. She has no one to talk to her not even her parents in turn she doesn't speak to anyone. What I thought of the book was it was very intriguing to me. The way she coped with the situation on her own. It got me mad when Rachel didn't believe her and the other part that got me mad is how Heather and Andy treated her, especially mostly at Andy. I felt closes to her when it came to her parents and communication. It sucks when parents don't hear you out!
Rating: Summary: What makes someone not speak? Review: Mel is a young girl who is a freshman in high school. The school year starts off by no one speaking to her or wanting to be her friend. But why? Thats the mysterious part that happened one summer before high school. The book was interesting in some parts but you had to connect who "IT" is and what happened. Some parts of the book made me not want to put it down because of this "IT" person and what he has to do with Mel. The rest of it was quite boring in my opinion because it would tell how Mel was so depressed and wouldn't speak because she had so many problems and no one would talk to her. All because of something that happened over a short summer. I think she just neeeded a friend to help let her secert out and luckly that friend was Rachel. In my over all opinion, I think young females should read this book because in a way it connects to them. Read the book to find out what happens to mel and why she chooses not to speak.
Rating: Summary: SO GREAT!!! Review: i loved this book i read it about two years ago for freshman english and i loved it! there is so much truth about teenage drama and defeat! i thought that anderson did a wonderful job with this book! i had tears in my eyes when i read this book! when i was younger i went through a similar situation and this brought all of those painful memories back but it makes you feel stronger in the sense that people can get over things no matter how tough!
Rating: Summary: Silent Rage and Dark Humor Review: I'm gratified to read the primarily positive reviews below. I've been considering adding this book to a curriculum I'm creating for 8th/9th/10th grade. Laurie Halse Anderson certainly knows her way around the often dark high school hallways. This book, despite or, perhaps, because of its serious subject matter, stands in bold literary relief compared to the lighter YA fare that I've recently been assigned to consider for curriculum inclusion.
Rating: Summary: AWFUL Review: Ok maybe because i was forced by my english teacher to read this book, it shafted my view, but this is seriously the most awful book i have ever read. Melinda is a depressed freshman, and doesnt know how to deal with it. she thinks about suicide and constantally dis's other people at her school. Yes she did get raped, but other people have gotten raped and delt with it in other ways than that. Basically my whole class thought that this book was terriable. It was written well, but after the first half you knew what was going to happen. The only thing that i did not understand is how no one noticed anything. I mean she cut her self and constantally skipped shcool and didnot talk. This is where her parents, classmates, etc should have noticed something. Yes they did hater her, but her "best friend" should have notice something and so should have ehr teachers. This book sucked and was unrealistic.
Rating: Summary: BEST TEEN BOOK EVER Review: This is a must-read! My English teacher just finished the book and I was amazed at how wonderfully it was written. It starts with a girl, Melinda, who starts high school w/ no friends b/c she was blamed for calling the cops and ruining a senior party that she and her ex-best-friend attended. But the reason Melinda called the cops was not to ruin the party but b/c something terrible had happened to her. Throughout the book there are subtle hints as to what happened at the party, one major hint is that she continues to call a guy "IT". This book is hilarous as well as sad and right after you find out what happened there is something funny to lighten the mood. I think this is an important book for all teens to read.
Rating: Summary: This book was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book was awesome! This is a book a about a girl who went to a party the summer before her freshman year of high school. She got raped by one of your typical popular seniors and she's been quiet about it ever since and the rest of the school shuns her. Throughout the book she deals with her own internal struggle along with the emotional, physical and psychological trauma of being raped. I think this book is a must read for any teen aged 13-18, this is an awesome book!
Rating: Summary: Another astonishing book from Laurie Halse Anderson Review: Another astonishing book from Laurie Halse Anderson called "Speak" is an excellent book that you must read. I can't stop reading this excellent book because the story gets more and more interesting. The next book that you should read should be "Speak". The best part about the story in my opinion is that this book is about a young girl that goes through so many troubles, but read this book to find out if she overcomes her problems.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: This was a very good book for adolecent girls. I liked it very much. THe main character , Melinda, tells of her ninth grade struggle. Melinda is an outcast because of her only cry for help. She gets raped at a party that her ex-best friend took her to. She calls the cops on "the beast", aka Andy Evans. Instead of getting Andy, the cops bust the party. This book expresses her conflicts with herself as she tries to live with this situation. In the book, Melinda hardly speaks at all. Not to her parent's, to the one "friend" she has, Heather, nor does she talk to any of the teachers. My favorite part of this book is when Melinda finnally gets the strength to confront her ex-best friend, Racheal. Racheal is now going out with "Andy Beast". Melinda doesn't want Andy to hurt her friend like he hurt her. She warns Racheal in the library and tells her about the incident at the party and finnally tells who did it but Racheal doesn't belive her and just thinks she's jealous of her popularity. The Prom approaches and Andy is taking Racheal. Racheal confronts Andy about Melinda. Although he denies it, he tries to get down Racheal's pants and it goes from there. Melinda's warning paid off. This book shows a great climax(above) and describes the character's very carefully and with great detail. The character's even have nick-names describing them. The social studies teacher is called Mr. Neck and the english teacher is called Hairlady. This book is a really good book for all young women to read. I strongly recomend it to teenage girls.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL Review: The book Speak is a verrrrrrrrrrrrry good book. To me it was better than Harry Potter and love that book. It is better than any other book that I have every read. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Were reading it in school, but I couldn't take the book out of school so I couldn't wait until we were done so I "barrowed" the book.Yeah right. This book is excellent. HINT:You should really make a movie about this book because my friends and I would go see this movie. I just picture it making alot of money. But other than that the book was GREAT, WONDERFUL, and EXCELLENT. I reamend this book to everybody that can read and likes to read.
