Summary: Speak
Review: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is about a girl named Melinda Sordino. She is loathed by her old friends because she called the cops on an end-of-summer party. She thinks the best place is to be alone, inside her head. But something is still haunting her there in her head and Mel is too scared to tell anyone what is wrong.

Although this sounded like an interesting book it moved slowly and could be confusing because of the constant reference to a person Mel referrers to as IT. For example when it says: "I see IT in the hallway. It goes to Merryweather IT walking with Aubrey Cheerleader. IT is my nightmare and I can't wake up." This is one part where it is confusing because you can see she is talking about a person but it sort of confuses you.

However this book is also good because it talks about peer pressure and what kids might do when there scared. It also talks about how friends are important and need to be there for a friend through thick and thin. For example Mel tries many times to tell her old friends something important. However they did not listen, but if they had things mite have been different for Mel's school year, this shows that friends really are important.

This book would most likely be most enjoyed by girls who are in the grades 6thgrade through 9th grade. Also with people who enjoy reading about peoples lives and who enjoy getting inside peoples head and of people who have a some what high reading ability.

Summary: What a great book!
Review: This book was about a girl named Melinda who had lost all of her friends because she called the cops at a party. Her friends decided to ignore her the whole ninth grade year not knowing why she had called the cops. Melinda goes through the year with only two friends. No one ever talked to her, even if they did, she wouldn't sya much back. The author's message for the book is to never assume or accuse until you know the whole story. I think this is one of my favorite books. "Speak" is such a great book because most kids can relate to how Melinda feels or just understand her feelings. I loved this book because it was so descriptive that I had a movie playing in my head as I read the book. The only thing that I disliked about "Speak" was at the end it forgets about soem things that happened earlier in the book- it leaves things hanging. Otherwise the book was awesome! "Speak" was very easy to follow and understand. But because of certain happenings in the book, I thinkchildren ages 12 and above would enjoy this book. I believe teens would enjoy this book much more than adults would. Probably women more than guys would like this book more, too. BUY "SPEAK"!!!

Summary: Making Choices, Speak
Review: Speak. "A tough, tender, and darkly funny story of a teenage outcast." It's about a girl named Melinda Sordino who lived in Syracuse, New York. She was busted at an end-of-summer party for calling the cops. She never told anyone what really went on that night, not even her own parents. The next year she starts high school with no friends. Her old friends, Nicole, who now hangs with the jocks, Ivy, who hangs with the artists and Rachel, her ex-best friend who hangs with the foreign exchange students all hate her. Even people who didn't know her hated her from a distance. While in school she discovers herself and then she speaks the truth.
One of my favorite parts in the book is when she goes to the mall and finds Ivy sitting on one of the benches with a sketchbook in hand. She is watching little children getting their faces painted. They are both in art and were assigned different objects for the year. Ivy was assigned clowns so she was looking at the children getting their faces painted as clowns. Melinda sits down and they talk. Ivy helps Melinda draw her object, which is a tree. She shows her how to just let it flow. I thought this was a touching moment because Melinda has hardly talked to anyone this whole year and here she is finally connecting with one of her old friends.
I suppose there was one part of the story that puzzled me and I didn't quite understand. Why was it so hard for Melinda to talk to her parents? She didn't have to bring up that night with them but I certainly would've said something. Personally I would have been so scared. I mean wasn't she worried of what would happen if she didn't tell someone? I guess that was the part that disturbed me a bit but I imagine that if the author were to have made that change it would affect the entire outcome of the book. The story is about her getting the courage to tell someone what happened, hence the name of the book. I wouldn't change the book otherwise.
The author, Laurie Halse Anderson, writes about a 14 year-old girl who is entering high school. So the best gender for this book would definately have to be girls. They would understand it better than boys because both genders go through different stages at different ages. For age, absolutely over the age of 13. Maybe a very mature individual with an eighth grade reading ability or higher but, there is content in the book that may be hard for anyone under the age to comprehend. Otherwise, practically everyone would enjoy this book.

Summary: Speak
Review: This story is a very great book dealing about a girl dealing with high school life. She derscribes herself as an outcast because all her friends had left her all alone. Her friends had left her all alone because she had called the police to get help. Her friends just think about what other people would do to them if they were seen with her because she is known as the girl who ruined the party. They soon realized that she had called the police for a reason and it is becaue she got raped by an older guy who was also at the party.
This book tells me about what it would be like if I went to high school and how I would feel if i was this particular girl. This book tells me how to deal with life and what would happen if something went wrong. Most of all it tells me how to show care for the people that are being made fun of. It really gives me a chance to see how the outcasts would feel. Having to read this book had really made me think about the wrong choices I did in life. So as i finished this book, it made me look at other people in a different perspective.

Summary: Speak
Review: Melinda just entered ninth grade in one of the worst situations concivable. Her lips are cut, her hair dirty, and she couldn't care less if her clothes are "in". She has no friends, her grades are low, and she's already skipping classes. Everyone hates her since the seniors' end-of-the-summer party when she called the cops and some kids got busted. No one even bothered asking her why she did it. They all just asummed her an enemy and proceeded in making her high school expierence as unpleasent as possible. In addition to this, she hasn't been able to find her words lately. Ever since the party, IT's been haunting her. She wants to forget. Slowly she's becoming mute and when her parents notice, they try to force her to speak. This book is gripping and you'll never want to put it down. Just when you're ready to, another twist is thrown in. I loved the character Melinda. You just want to reach out and hug her. Although I found IT a bit disturbing, I still liked the book. It deals with some problems that some teens unfortunately face today. I think any teenage girls would enjoy this book. I know I did.

Summary: A real must for all teens; 'Speak', by Laurie Halse Anderson
Review: This story is a must for all teens. When I started reading it, it pulled me in and I couldn't get out much like quicksand), it's that good! It's about a teenage girl who becomes an outcast after she calls the cops and wrecks a party. The other kids at the party thought that she was only calling to get them in trouble. But the real reason was because she ended up in big trouble. It gets worse, especially later in the story, when her ex-best friend gets involved in it as well.
I really liked the suspense in this book. You read the story from her point of view, which makes it even more exciting. Everyone in my school, including me, has read the book and rated it five stars. You will too, when you read the book!

Summary: To SPEAK, or not to SPEAK
Review: I read the book Speak. One of my friends had recomended it to me and we both like the same types of books.
Speak is about a teenage girl who goes to a party with her friend and something horrible happens. She calls the police then gets too scared and runs home.
Everyone in her school knows who called the cops and the girl is outcasted. She has no one to talk to about why she called the police not even her ex-friends. She does not know how to get what happened out of her head.
With all the different things this girl goes through, this book will have you guessing till the very last page.
I really enjoyed Speak and i give it five stars out of five. It really was an excellent book.
