Rating: Summary: Speak review Review: I would recommend Speak to any young adults that prefer books dealing with teen issues. It is a captivating book that keeps your attention, while presenting a meaningful theme for young people. Older readers may not enjoy this book, because the narrator, Melinda, talks and thinks like a teenager. People that do not even remember their teenage days may not be able to relate to a book like Speak. For young women that are having trouble dealing with their emotions, this is an influential book that may help you open up. You will learn about stereotypes and symbolization, but the book is not at all too hard to follow. If you enjoy books that affect your emotions and make you think, then Speak is definitely your kind of book.
Rating: Summary: "Teenfully Helpful" Review: Speak, mannnn! It's a great book for someone who is getting/ and or has got raped. I think that this book will/did help a lot of teens who went through this same situation. I hope that teens, as well as adults, will pick up 'Speak' and read it. If you are getting raped, please tell somebody, somebody you trust and if you feel like there is nobody to tell, then call and anonoymous hotline and get help.. Thank you! READ TO ACHIEVE... hosted by the NBA and the WNBA
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: I read this book as an assignment for my high school English class. I didn't really expect it to be that good because most of the books we have to read are boring. This book was a nice change though. It was funny at times but other times it really made you think. At times it was kind of hard to read because it was kind of dark. Overall, though, I really liked it and I would recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Dealing With the Unthinkable Review: Speak by Laurie Anderson is a book that describes how a teenage girl handles an unthinkable thing happening to her. The main character, Melinda, is struggling socially, academically and mentally. This book is a definite read for teachers, teenagers and parents. Speak emphasizes some of the things teenagers go through; everybody can relate or learn something from this book. Readers will experience what it is like to walk in someone else's sohoes. This book will evoke numerous emotions and will captivate readers. I really liked this book and strongly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Silence is Deadly Review: This book is an outstanding tribute to rape survivors. It is also a victory for outcasts. Anderson writes the truth of high school and the cliques that are found within them. The very essence of hatred for people is protrayed to the point of bringing back unhappy feelings of high school within us. Anderson has written in many comic relief passages. She allows the narrator to speak to the reader, which in turns allows the reader to actually laugh out loud. The development of Melinda's character triggers the emotion of the reader. Many readers will be able to empathize with the character of Melinda and what she had to to through her freshman year. This book should be read by all freshmen, so they may come to empathize with other students instead of making fun of them. The theme of acceptance, determination, and survival is eminent. The lesson learned is of many and one major lesson to be learned is to stand up to fears and confront them--bottling up emotions only causes more harm. This book is complelling and an emotional read. Teenagers need more books like this novel and parents and teachers need to become familiar with new novels that could possibly help students deal with yound adult issues. Although, the classics are great more developmental books are needed to better understand the thoughts and the feelings of young adults.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: This is a story of a young girl who will not speak. As the story unfolds you will find out why and will live her life as an outcast. As an educator my eyes were opened to what role we can play in the lives of our students. Its a must read for all ages.
Rating: Summary: Speak up about "Speak" Review: When I chose this book as a school assginment, I didn't expect to find a book I loved, that I just couldn't put down. From the first page to the last, this book draws readers in through Melinda, a teenage misfit with a huge secret. I won't give it away, but reading this book is a definite must, for school or for pleasure!
Rating: Summary: One of the Bestest Review: This is without a doubt one of the most interesting books I have ever read. Melinda's world and life are told through her humorous and totally believeable story. Many things in this novel I could relate to my own life. In this story, Melinda lives her life as a social outcast, her former friends refuse to believe her existance. This novel totally sums of the life of a high school outsider in a very interesting and very funny way. This has got to be one, if not the absolute best book I have ever read. You have to read it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: I loved it. Review: I loved "Speak" because the showed the side of a world few have seen. You will not be able to put this story of a teenage misfit down as you read about her problems at home, school, and in life in general. The author writes with such admirable voice and emotion, you feel like you are the girl. Yay.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: Speak was the best book I ever read!! I reccomend it to any girl. Melinda goes through a lot of problems, like with friends, boys , and parents. The end is VERY Dramatic. Laurie Halse Anderson did a great job with details. I didn't want to put it down. About the book: Melinda is a freshman in high school and . At a party during last summer she gets raped but doesn't confront the person. Not even her ex- bestfriend knows.
