Rating: Summary: great book that will get you thinking!!! Review: 'speak' is a wonderful book that will keep you reading far into the night. it is the story of a young girl, melinda, who enters high school as just another average high school student. average, that is, except for her one secret that seperates her from the rest of the world: she was raped by a senior at a summer party where she called the cops. the story follows melinda as she tries to forget about her ordeal and live her life the same way as before, only with less friends, a permanent 'freak-who-ratted-everyone-out' label, and the constant fear that andy 'beast' evans will strike again. this is a story about the courage to fight back and the re-discovery of yourself. a definite must-read! ----------------------------------------------- what i really enjoyed about the book was how the author [anderson] could make it seem so real and so personal. she really got us exploring the depths of the human mind and the raw emotion felt by the character. it really makes you think twice before making fun of the 'outcast' in your school; who knows what they've gone through in their life.
Rating: Summary: A book that you don't wan't to put down Review: This book was about a girl that went to a party and something happend then after that no one liked her at school. She never fit in the groups or anything. What I liked about this book was it talked about this girl and her hole life story. Like she never fit in at school or she never had friends. Everything she did there would be a problem behind it. What I didn't like about the book is it dragged on I mean it would be on the same topic for the longest time. Ohther than that I really liked it.
Rating: Summary: Speak- great fiction Review: Speak is a great piece of literature. It is fun to read and has moral value. It is about a girl who has a painful secret that she doesn't dare tell anyone. You'll be just as hooked as I was when I read it.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars +++++!!! Review: I work in a children's library so I spend a lot of time reading young adult books. This book is one of THE BEST I have ever read. It has been about seven years since I was in high school, but when I read this book I felt like I was right back there. This book really touched me. It captures life and emotion in high school perfectly and I would highly recommend it to anyone 13 and older.

Rating: Summary: Speaking About the Book "Speak" Review: Kimberly Speaking About the Book "Speak" The book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, is a fiction book about the main character, Melinda, going through the tough first year at Merryweather high school, in Syracuse, with almost no friends and a deep dark secret. Melinda sits on a bus alone and ex-best friend is sitting with the exchange students. At lunch she meets heather another main character that becomes her best friend. In science she has a lab partner who is part of the little genus club his name is David he is also her best friend. Two other characters that play an important role is Mr. Freeman who is her art teacher and Andy a hottie as Rachael calls him. Andy is part one conflict of Melinda's and another conflict that Melinda has is trust with others and speaking about her problems. The plot is that Melinda was trying to do the right thing but she did not know what the outcome would be, and because of her taking a risk no one will get to know will her. This plot leads to the one of the themes of the novel. The theme of this novel is you should always speak your mind no matter what happened. Another theme is that you always know who your real friends are. My opinion oaf this book is it is a very sad, heartwarming story about a teenager trying to find her way through a very tough situation. I would rate this book 4-5.
Rating: Summary: Speak your mind. Review: After reading this, I felt really proud of who I was as a person and as a girl. The courage and the strength of the main character's words can be felt coursing through your veins. She had such a poignant and profound voice that made her such a creatively, interesting heroine. You understand the power of her silence and the urgency to find herself again. There's so much to be heard and said when you want someone to look at you and know that there's something wrong, but you don't have the heart. It's such a rewarding story with a tremendous amount of spirit. It's such a universal novel and yet so small but with a huge impact.
Rating: Summary: Speak Review: Speak is a great book but I would not reccomend it to any one who is younger than 10. Some parts are a little hard to accept. I laughed at parts and felt sorry for Melinda in others. Melinda is a true geek in the 9th grade. She is completely friendless and a little shy. I don't want to give away the ending so I will stop there. Speak is one of my favorite books. I just finished reading it and I love every part of it.
Rating: Summary: speak Review: I must tell you about this fantastic book that I just got finish reading. This book is about a 15 year old girl name Melinda Sordino. Melinda school year is not off to the most wonderful start. All of her former friends hate her because what happened over the summer. Melinda begins her freshman year of high school completely alone. Her emotional wounds of the summer have left her unable to express herself; she is emotionally dead. As the school year goes on she becomes more and more silent, unable to open up about what happened over the summer. When "IT" approaches her in the hallways, she can't handle her fears and emotions. Melinda's only way out is art class, where she is free to be herself and is learning to express her emotions through art. As Melinda's artwork grows, so does her need to tell someone what happened to her. When she finally finishes her project, she is ready to speak her mind, and able to tell what happen to her on that night of the party. , doesn't this sounds like an excellent book. This book is known as SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson's . This book is the best book I ever read in my life . I strongly recommend this book to you , because this book describes how a teenage girl handles an unthinkable thing that happen to her. I love how Laurie Halse Anderson's wrote this book because you can actually see what Melinda is going through. I also love this book because the message it sent out to me is that nobody can speak for you, but you. No matter what happens in your life trust the voice within you. .Sometimes you have to speak up for yourself, because you might help someone. 1 , I know that you will adore this book, because it's like a belonging and self-delusion, kind of a book. It shows how Melinda is not fitting in, and how she think that she has no purpose in this world. In the begging of the book I thought that Melinda has low self-steam, but when I started to read more and more of the book , I notice that her self-steam started to increased. She started to become more positive than negative, and that why I think you will love this book because you can related to her. My favorite part of the book is when Melinda tells you what happen on the night of the party. She tell you in great details. You can actually picture your-self there at the party. You can feel what she is feel. You feel scare, hurt, worry, sorrow, and mad all at the same time. You don't know what you would have done if you were Melinda at the night of the party. Words can't descried what happen to her, unless you read the book. I don't mean to ruin the book for you, but you still can read it because I'm not going to tell you what happens to her, but wait there's more. I know you like books with guys, and love, and stuff like that. This isn't a book like that. But as I said before, you will fall in love with this book. SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson's was given 5 out of 5 stars. The publishers weekly said that "Speak will hold reader from first word to last." And they were right! I love the way Laurie Halse Anderson's title this book. Speak, because Melinda has to speak at loud before "IT" hurts her former friend. Melinda former friends name is Rachel, but she like to be call Rachell. Rachell is dating "IT", and "IT", might hurt Rachell like he hurt Melinda. So, that why Melinda has to speak 2 I must warn you that once you read this work of art, you will be unable to put it down. You will be too in to the mystery to put it down. This book will keep you on your toes from the moment you pick it up.
