Summary: I love these books!- HS English teacher
Review: I have enjoyed every book in this series from #1 to #7. I cannot wait for the next ones to come out. Finally, the children's literature world has come to the postmodern era.

Not only are the books a fast read for adults, young people find them entertaining. The books are an excellent tool for learning vocabulary starting around 3rd grade -- sooner for more advanced students.

Summary: The Bad Beginning
Review: This was a GREAT book! I really think you should buy it! It is so thrilling that your never going to want to put the book down.

Summary: Surprisingly good!
Review: I first noticed one of my students reading these books. They looked intriguing. I started picking them up over the summer. I kept reading them. Every once in a while I would think to myself, "I can't believe how much I love these depressing stories! They're so funny!"

In some ways, they seem to have been written with a classroom in mind, so I decided to try them out on my class this year (5/6th grade) I wasn't sure they would like them, so I really just planned to read a chapter or two of the first one. We are now a little over halfway through The Wide Window with no signs of stopping. They pick up on the humor better than I thought they would, and they get really involved with the plots.

Do you understand the mystery of the VFD? I think I do!

Summary: Yay...These are very fun books.
Review: ...P>Now, mind you, my reading level is way beyond that of these books (adult level), but still, these are very amusing. Especially, for kids, the way the author explains interesting phrases that come up during the book is helpful to expand a young vocabulary.

Some critize these books for being a bit violent...NO! These are the people who put "children in peril" down under capsule reviews for movies. The violence is playful while not encouraging violence on the part of the reader, and mild nonetheless.

So, bottom line, if you're not up for being a bit bored because you already know all of the words the author is defining, don't read these, but if you can look past that and pay attention to the interesting stories, these books make for fast and contenting reads.

Summary: Witty and thought provoking
Review: I love these books! I am also a big Harry Potter fan. These books are probably not as entertaining as the Harry Potter books, but they certainly have a neat style of writing that J K Rowling lacks. I have been thinking about possible using them in children's counseling someday because I think a lot of situations in the books could be used as a jumping off point for therapuetic conversations with kids.

Summary: This Series Rocks!

Summary: dictionary with a story
Review: ok, the series rule. I'm 15 and I simply adore them! I love the Harry Potter books as well, I can't wait for the 5th book...anyway, this series are awsome, I mean I even learned new words I had never heard of. It rulez. I recomend to every age, not only 6-12. I might even get my 24 year old brother to read it!

Summary: Suspense keeps the kids reading
Review: I used to push my 9 year old son to read 20 minutes a day until he started this series. Now he is reading one of these books every week. They are suspenseful with a sense of humor. Think of melodrama: villian, heroine and hero, and you have the basis for these books. The added value: the author has a way of teaching new words without the kids suspecting a vocabulary lesson. The only unfortunate thing about these books is that there aren't enough of them.

Summary: the wickedly great world of lemony snicket
Review: i have read all of the books by, about, or in the context of the baudelaires and or lemony snicket, and i finished the series and the autobiography in little less than a month. i have never read another kind of book like this one. i am not the kind of person who likes perfect endings because then you dont even have to finish reading the book and you know how it ends. when my mom told me it was bedtime i didnt want to put any of these books down meaning all nine of them not just the first three. i would recommend these books to anybody who is need of a book that will keep you guessing.
