Summary: Go, Snicket! LOL!
Review: LOL! This books are GREAT! They have so much wit, so much dark humor...and yet are so child friendly. I have read all the books so far, and I eagerly await the tenth! :)

Summary: No "happy ending" in here...
Review: My 11 year old LOVES these books!!! While they aren't "happy" books, they certainly have her attention, perhaps because they don't have a typical format. Following the misadventures of the Baudelaire siblings has her reading non-stop. She can hardly wait to get to the next book in the series & said they're as good as the Harry Potter series - now that's saying something!

Summary: A Sumary Of A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Review: One day, the siblings of Viloet, Sunny, and Clause were hanging out on the beach. Their parents had stayed home, so the beach was all to themselves. A man named Mr. Poe walked slowly up to them and announced that their parents had died in a terrible fire, leaving their enormous fortune behind, destroying not only their parents, but their house. Mr. Poe was now the official guardian of the Baudiler orphans. He put the orphans under the care of Count Olaf, a cruel, wicked person who cooked up plannes to steal the Baudiler's fortune. Of course, Mr. Poe doesn't know this, so he doesnt do anything at first, but when the Baudilers move from place to place, hoping to never be under care of the disguised Count Olaf, there is always something going on between Count Olaf or his evil assistants trying to make up another scheme to steal the fortune, Mr. Poe is informed and is also on the lookout for Olaf. But the poor Baudilers don't know what to expect, because Count Olaf is very sly and sneaky. . . . . .
The Baudilers have moved from place to place not only to the begining with Count Olaf, but with their Uncle Monty , a "woman" named Shirley, living at the Mill, and loads more. The Baudilers don't even know that where ever they are trying to go, someone's watching them . . . . . . . . .
Please get this book, or series, you'll be glad you did. If you like mystery books, this is the book for you! Snicket uses a lot of cleaver ways for Olaf and the gang to almost chase after the Baudilers. You can even order these books online right here!!

Summary: The Bad Beginning A review by: Ginny
Review: *Have you ever missed your parents so much you would do anything to see them? Well I think the Baudelaire siblings miss their parents more in the mysterious adventure book The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. Their parents died in a house fire when the children were at the beach. The children were forced to live with Count Olaf. Count Olaf is mean, selfish, and makes them sleep in the attic. He also makes them make dinner every night even though they don't know how to cook. Now is that the life you want? Here is a little what the author wrote for you!
* "I'm sorry to say that the story shown in this picture in front of you is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say are magnets for misfortune."
*In this short book alone the three siblings encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothes, and a damp attic for a bedroom. I think Count Olaf just keeps them around to get after the family fortune. I don't think he is even related to that family. To get the family fortune he will do anything. For example he black mailed Violet. He said if she doesn't sign the fortune papers over to him he would kill her sister.
*What would you do to escape this unfortunate life? You should read the book The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket if you like the kind of books that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

Summary: Between the lines reading
Review: I bought the first book for my niece, and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting so I could engage her in a conversation about it, and help her work on reading comprehension. I got sucked in!

These books are smartly written, meaning both intelligent and clever, not to mention astute. While some reviewers unfairly criticize the way that words are described, it presents a great medium to kids. It illustrates the flexibility and creative use of language, making it both entertaining and educational.

I'd recommend these books for adults as a quick, enjoyable read, and to kids as a smart introduction to language use while being immersed in a story of colorful, delightfully sinister characters. These stories offer something for everyone, except those completely devoid of humor and personality.

Summary: Fabulous
Review: I think that putting it next to the Harry Potter books makes a rather inaccurate comparison; they really aren't in the same category at all.

I think that older people would really enjoy these books, while they might be a bit dark for younger kids. However, the integration of words which I do not even come across in adult books is great. While some have criticised this, I think that it's great that he explains the meaning of the word somewhat ironically, but in a context anyone can understand rather than a dictionary.

Umm. Yes. Read all the books! They're splendiforous.

Summary: disappointed
Review: Actually this should received less than one star! I don't believe it is necessary to talk down to children...such as taking a whole paragraph explaining what a word means...the thought is implied and brought through in context... I just don't think there was much to the story most of which was explaining the vocabulary used in a sentence.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: First off I am not going to say that I have read all of these books... In fact I've just finished the first book about 2 and a half hours ago. The only thing I did not like about this book was (and this has nothing to do with the way he wrote them or the cover or anything of that sort) this. I wish I could have read them in second grade! I am not insulting the book at all, all I wanted to say is that I would have enjoyed them a lot more if I had read them while I still was seven and a half. One other thing... make them longer! Anyways, your 7-11 year old will be delighted by these books... ok well at least the first one cause I'll have to check up with you about the rest when I get to those... Anyways good job Mr. Snicket!

Summary: Best Book of the Year
Review: These books by Lemony Spicket are the best. Each book is filled with a man named Count Olf. There are 3 unfortunate kids by the names of Violet a great inventor, Klaus (like me) is a great reader, and Sunny who likes to chew with her sharp teeth. When their house is burned in a fire, and their parents die, they go and have to live with a man whose name is Count Olf. This book is called The Bad Beginning. Then there is Uncle Monty in The Reptile Room, and Aunt Josephine in The Wide Window. These books are the best and I think anyone who doesn't buy these books are just plain, old, nuts.
