Summary: Too Simple For Adult Harry Potter Fans, Okay for ESL Readers
Review: I was drawn to children's literature by the series of Harry Potter books with plots and systems that are imaginative, entertaining, and complex enough for adult readers. After hearing about the popularity of this new series on Unfortunate Events, I was curious enough to buy the first 9 books to try them myself.

Well, at least one unfortunate event hit me after starting the first book - I couldn't say I wasn't disappointed at the story. I've read quite a few reader's reviews and now have learned that these books are indeed for "children". :P

The pace of story telling is slow (not necessarily a bad thing) and the author is specific in describing new vocabulary and events. I would say this is a good pick for kids as well as people having English as a Second Language to learn useful words. Yet the story may not interest adult readers much because of the simplicity.

Summary: Hillarious with a capital H
Review: This Box of Unfortunate Events includes The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window. The books are wacky outrageous and a lot of fun for younger readers. I recommend this set for those just starting. There are other sets too and one with all the books.

Summary: The Reptile Room
Review: This book is about three kids, Violet, Klause, and Sunny Baudliare, and they have the worst luck infact they barly have any. The Reptile Room starts out with them going down Lowsy Lane to go to their new guardian, Montgomery Montgomery, but they called him uncle Monty. Uncle Monty gets a knew assistant Steffono, and he was actually Count Olaf and he is the guy who wants the Baudliare fortune. Uncle Monty is a guy that studies reptiles, and he has a whole bunch of different reptiles never seen before. They are planning on going to Brazil to study a reptile. Uncle Monty has a snake called The Incedible Deadly Viper wich is actually very harmless, and Sunny the youngest likes it alot. When Steffono arrives Klause sees the tatoo on his left ankle, so the kids knew it was Count Olaf. Towards the end Mr.Poe arrives in the scene to give the kids their lugage, and thats when Violet makes a lock pick to get in to Count Olafs suit case to get some proof that he killed uncle Monty. In the end they busted Count Olaf and he got away, so the kids were still not safe.

Summary: They say that unfortunate events happen in threes
Review: Looks as if they are correct. This is a great three book starter set for the series. Lemony Snicket has made a great series of books for those people that can't stand everything being sweetness and light. In the process we learn many lessons in life from grammar to etiquette. Similar to Rocky and Bullwinkle there is something for everyone at any age.
It would be wise to buy this three book set as you will be hooked on the story from the beginning and have all three books finished before you have a chance to buy the forth.
Coming in a case allows you to set the books up on the shelf without needing any supporting books or book ends.
I will not go through the contents of the books, as you will get a better idea of what you are purchasing from the individual reviews. However the books included in this set are "The Bad Beginning," " The Reptile Room," and "The Wide Window." Be sure to look for my individual reviews of each book. In each you will se the pattern that makes this series popular and maybe learn a little something on the side.

Summary: I loved it! I think you and your kids will too!
Review: I think this book is an amazing book for people young and old. This book combines several different ideas and keeps younger children captivated through the entire book! I read this book before it was a hit and I adored it! There were jokes I found appropriate and funny for my kids, as well as some adult humor. It helped my kids with their vocabulary, though they did not relize it, which made it fun for them to learn. When I read this book to my kids they did not have to continuously have to ask what words meant. My children have re-read these books so many times they can hardly wait until the next volume comes out! My kids were never much readers but my 11 year old, 14 year old and even my 17 year old have all enjoyed reading this book. So I reccomend this book to kids of all ages, and even adults.

Review: These books may be a little rapetative but no matter these were amazing books. Anyone who says its to violent ought to be taught what violence is. There is an entertaing twist in all of these books and a greatt plot. Lemony Snicket is a great author and anyone whos looking for a good and fun book to read choose this!!

Summary: Horribly negative books
Review: I had heard the hype about these books and decided to read them myself. I expected to read about events that are sheer bad luck, or harmlessly unfortuante. I was appalled by the violence, cruelty and utter evil that takes place in these books. Are murder, contemplation of poisoning, deceit and child abuse values that we desire to instill in our children?? Although the writing style is intriguing and the inclusion of definitions of vocabulary words is potentially beneficial, I would strongly urge parents to read these books prior to allowing their children to read them. I'll stick with JK Rowlings any day. At least she has good triumph over evil.

Summary: Ummm...No
Review: These...books...stink. It's the same story over, and over, for 10 times! Quick summery after the 1st, the kids are adopted by some distant relative. Count Olaf disguises himself in some horrible umm... disguse. The kids recognize him, and try to tell Mr.Poe, who ignores all reason, and logic, if it looks like a pig, acts like a pig, walks, sounds, grunts, rolls in its own feces, and smells like a pig, it's a pig! But no Mr.Poe ignores all this, and points out 1 or 2 things of horseyness(like the fact that it's a mammal) and considers it a horse. I'm saying these animals because through all the people he's disguised himself as it's hard to pick. Then there's the baby, Kluas and Violet just know EXCACTLY what it's saying, for instance,"Gloo blah blah", they both know that she's saying,
'Goodness, a pteredactol just landed, and is eating everything in sight, Violet, Klaus, time to get the machine gun.' Do not buy these books! Buy something that's actually good, like the classics, Watershipdown by:Richard Adams, or To Kill a Mockingbird by:Harper Lee, or The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings both by:J.R.R Tolkien. And The Chronicles of Narnia(7books) by:C.S Lewis. JUST DON'T BUY UNFORTUANATE EVENTS WHO MAKE CHILDREN SOUND IDIOCTIC!

Summary: Too much unhappiness
Review: I recently bought these books to read aloud to my 9-year-old.
We have always loved reading Roald Dahl. The story begins with the death of the parents and the children must go live with a physically as well as psychologically abusive uncle who makes then live in constant fear of their lives.

There are 3 children and one of them is a baby. At one point in the story, the uncle has the baby secretly taken from his brother and sister and threatens to drop the baby from a high tower. It feels a little too real.

Although, this book has an enjoyable writing style, I would not recommend it for a child of nine. It is far too negative and vividly written. I say wait until 11 or so...
