Review: The real strength in this book is the practice tests. They are literally the real thing. There is no better way to raise your score. Though I do recomend another book with this one to raise your vocabulary and such. I recomend it for everyone and, being a seventh grader, think this book is perfect for anyone in any grade. I raised my score from an 1130 to a 1350!

Review: I brought this book (and "Boot Camp for Your Brain - SAT I") for my niece to study during her summer break. She just called to tell me that her SAT score went up 150 points.

Summary: Saved My Day!!!
Review: Another Reviewer stated this book will help raise your score from 600 to 700, but it did more than that for me. I didn't start studying until TWO WEEKS before the test. I dumped the vocabulary cards and math guides and jumped right into the practice tests. My lowest practice score was 1190, my real life SAT score was 1380.

My advice: simulate the real test as best you can. No bathroom breaks, no snacks, no friends, no music, etc. Use a cooking timer to clock yourself, when it dings STOP. Don't leave your desk. Don't stop to review sections, do the whole test at once.
Don't focus on the free online versions, nothing is the same as practicing with pencil and paper.

When you're done, look at your answers and redo all the math problems you did wrong. Pay attention to which type of problems give you trouble or which terms confuse you. The math section is really a Mensa Logic Test in disguise, so after you do this a few times you'll start recognizing the tricks they use. (If it were really a math test I wouldn't have done well because I never got past basic geometry.)

For the Verbal: find something that is completely over your head and read it. This may sound stupid, but it will improve your reading skills dramatically. Search online for the different types of Analogies, look at your answers to see which types give you the most trouble.

Day before the test: Don't review anything, just get the stuff together that you'll need. Put fresh batteries in your calculator. Spend all day having fun. Wash your hair. Being clean is a great ego boost.

Summary: This is a great prep book for the SAT...I got in early!!
Review: I just finished the extremely stressful process of taking SATs and applying to college.

I wanted to review this book and post my thoughts online in an effort to help others going through the same thing.

I really liked this book. It didn't try to teach me anything i didn't need to know. It was very straight forward and provided excellent example tests that really helped me practice. All these standarized tests are just about learning the question types, and the only real way to do that is to do questions over and over again. The more the better, and this book definitely gives you enough to work with.

After using this book, I got a great score on my SATs. Coupled with my excellent admissions essay, I got into my top choice schools. ( I had my essay edited by EditorExchange.com )...

All the stress is over now, and I can't wait to start classes next fall.

Summary: 10 Real SATs, 2nd Edition Review
Review: I finally got around to taking the SAT after living a year in Europe after Highschool, so needless to say my knowledge of SAT related questions (names English) had become questionable. Well, I bought 10 Real SATs, Second Edition used for about $2 and worked my way through about the first half of the first SAT. Had I actually had the self-determination to go through the entire thing I probably could have improved my math scores too, but that isn't the fault of the book. Anyway, if you're able to sit down and work through a book that is 100% black/white with no elements of design in place, then go for it. As for me-- I needed something more stimulating to keep my interest... and I settled with an 1150 because of it:(. Good luck to the rest of you!

Summary: 10 Real SATs
Review: 10 Real SATs is the most useful SAT 1 review book out there, and it is not even a review book. The value of the book is in its tests, which are all real SAT tests administered within the past decade. Since I bought it just a few weeks before I took the SAT earlier this year for the third time, I only had time to take 8 of the tests. My average score on the tests from this book was 1280. I had gotten an 1170 and 1150, respectively, on the previous 2 times that I took the real SAT. After using this book, as well as some vocab books, I managed to score a 1300. I even recognized an entire analogies section from this book on the real test. It is likely that several sections will be lifted off this test for the final few SAT tests this year, since no tests have been written this year. I recommend this book to anyone who will be taking the SAT this fall. If you are taking the SAT in 2005, this book may be useless, since the SAT will change format next year.

Summary: I did not find this helpful in the least.
Review: It came with 216 "hot words," of which I knew 74 to begin with, and knew them all within a few weeks. I also did a lot of other words in another SAT book, and another book called Word Power. I was getting, in the "10 Real SATs," a 1430 (730 english, 700 math). I then took the real SATs in March, and got only a 1270 (650 verbal, 620 math). Very disappointing, and an embarrasing score. I am still wondering if I didn't do something wrong..
